Athletic Training
Athletic training is an exciting and fast-paced allied medical profession. As an integral member of the athletic
healthcare team, the certified athletic trainer (ATC) is educated in the prevention, treatment, evaluation and
rehabilitation of sports-related injuries and illnesses sustained by physically active people. Certified athletic
trainers work closely with medical professionals in a wide range of settings that include high schools, colleges
and universities, professional teams, sports medicine clinics, corporate fitness facilities and hospitals.
In 2005, Wilmington’s athletic training program earned the maximum seven-year accreditation from
the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students completing the Bachelor
of Science degree program at WC are eligible for the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of
Certification (NATABOC) examination to become a certified athletic trainer. Students also are eligible for the Ohio
licensing exam upon earning their ATC credentials. All athletic training students are considered pre-professional
during their first two semesters. After satisfactory completion of the pre-professional requirements, students
are advanced to the professional phase of the curriculum, including advanced clinical education.
wC Athletic training scholarship
All students accepted into the athletic training program
receive $5,000 in scholarships over three years. Students
receive $1,500 their sophomore and junior years and $2,000
their senior year.
sports medicine. Some of WC’s most recent internship sites
include the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, Columbus
Crew, Dayton Dragons, Dayton Sports Medicine Institute
