<strong>Glossary</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Windridge</strong> <strong>Terms</strong><br />

All quiet (lights out): At 10pm, the COD’s shout ‘all quiet.’ This means that all campers have to settle<br />

down and be quiet. Once your campers are asleep, you may leave your cabin, but NOT before 10:15pm.<br />

Your campers MUST be asleep before you leave. Times vary depending on age group.<br />

Bachelor Hill: Many <strong>of</strong> the senior staff live on Bachelor Hill. Only senior staff can be in this area. This<br />

originates from when Teela was an all girls camp and the male staff lived away from the girls, on the hill.<br />

Camp store: The camp store sells chips (crisps), drinks, ice cream, candy (sweets), cameras, deodorants,<br />

toothbrushes etc. Camp store is run on a non-cash basis. You will be billed for your purchases.<br />

Campus: We have two campuses, boys and girls. With the exception <strong>of</strong> senior staff no female, campers<br />

or staff are allowed in boys campus and no male, campers or staff are allowed in girls campus.<br />

Carnival: A wonderful time in camp taking place on Rest and Play day. Each cabin creates a carnival type<br />

booth for all to enjoy. We have a cook-out, all camp events, a 100’ slip and slide all ending with an auction.<br />

Catamount Club: This building is located on the dirt road, past Bachelor Hill after the <strong>of</strong>fice. Here you<br />

will find, phones, TV, ping-pong, darts and fitness machinery.<br />

Counselor on duty (COD): During rest hours and after lights out counselor are assigned to oversee the<br />

campers at key locations in camp. After lights out COD’s keep watch over the cabin areas until 12:15 am.<br />

During rest hour they report to the Head Counselor and after lights out they report to the DOD.<br />

Director on duty (DOD): The director on duty is a senior staff person that oversees camp from the<br />

end <strong>of</strong> evening activity until 12:15 am (once all staff are checked in). They oversee the CODs in each <strong>of</strong><br />

the two campuses. They are the first person to go to with any problems or issues in camp.<br />

Camp Drivers: <strong>Staff</strong> that are over 21, have a clean driver’s license and have passed our driving test are<br />

allowed to drive staff and campers in large vehicles, feel free to take a driving test with us.<br />

Family Camp: This is the first summer we will be <strong>of</strong>fering our alumni a five day camp experience at the<br />

end <strong>of</strong> the summer. This is open to all alumni and their family and friends.<br />

Inn at <strong>Windridge</strong>: We have moved the old Farm House and Homestead together and are in the process<br />

<strong>of</strong> creating an Inn. It’s the two buildings by the entrance <strong>of</strong> camp.<br />

Field <strong>of</strong> Dreams (Bend-O-Brook): This building is located opposite the dining hall (between dining hall<br />

and pool). The director, Norbert, with his youngest son reside their. Please feel free to drop in at any<br />

time.


Head Counselors: Each campus boys and girls have a head counselor and an assistant. Their<br />

responsibility is to over see their respective campus area, dealing with any issues arising with staff<br />

and/or campers in resident life.<br />

Horn: The horn is blown every morning for wake-up, as the fire alarm or other emergencies, and to<br />

signal other events around camp. The fire drill is signaled by 3 blasts <strong>of</strong> the horn with a pause and three<br />

more over and over again.<br />

Intersession: There are gaps between each camp session. During these times, staff will be scheduled<br />

days <strong>of</strong>f!<br />

Pro-shop: The pro-shop is located across the road by the main <strong>of</strong>fice. It stocks our logo gear and other<br />

equipment.<br />

Program Directors: Each <strong>of</strong> the four areas; riding, tennis, soccer and electives have a program director<br />

responsible for planning and running their activity areas on camp.<br />

Radios: Communication through out camp is done by camp radios. All key areas and personnel in camp<br />

have access to them.<br />

Rest hour: There are 2 rest hours a day, one after lunch (1-2pm), and the other before dinner (5:30-<br />

6:30pm). Although this is called rest hour and we encourage rest – is mostly social time. <strong>Staff</strong> will either<br />

be free or a COD at this time.<br />

Rest and Play Day: This is a day in the middle <strong>of</strong> each session that includes a late wake up, private<br />

lessons in activity areas and ends with the carnival.<br />

Management Team: The management team comprises <strong>of</strong> the Camp Director (Norbert), program<br />

directors (and their assistants), head counselors (and their assistants), CIT/JC director, maintenance<br />

director (Tom 0.), the nurses, and the <strong>of</strong>fice manager (Donna).<br />

Soccer Mansion: The central building for soccer.<br />

Teela Games: This is a two day event at the end <strong>of</strong> each session. The camp is split up into 4 teams for<br />

competition and fun. (Red, Green, Blue and Navy)<br />

Teela-Wooket: ‘Welcome to my summer home.’<br />

Ted: Ted Hoehn is the owner <strong>of</strong> <strong>Windridge</strong> tennis camp.<br />

<strong>Tennis</strong> Palace: The central tennis building located by courts 5-13.
