WOPEX. TECHNIQUE AND
TENACITY
We all know – indeed we‘re
certain – that ... “a pencil is
a pencil is a pencil”. A pencil
is an everyday item that everyone – regardless
of their age – has held in their
hands at some stage in their life or
maybe still uses to work, write and
whole variety of colours, shapes, sizes
and degrees of hardness and no-one
expected to see any more great changes
or sensational innovations emerge
from the world of pencil-writing ... not
really anyway ...
It is also a well-known fact that a
number of manufacturers in the writing
instruments sector have been
working on the subject of ‘wood extrusion’.
But it was STAEDTLER who
was at the right place at the right time
WOPEX AND
Highlight of the year 2010 was
undoubtedly the strong presentation
of WOPEX at the
youth exhibition ‘YOU’ in Berlin,
staged from 1st – 3rd October at the
former Tempelhof Airport location.
The three-day event also heralded the
start for the second line of communication
and for the direct addressing of
young, trend-conscious people at a
consumer exhibition by means of promotional
and sampling activities as
well as performance artists.
The 2010 YOU exhibition in Berlin
was able to boast 170 exhibitors,
143,174 hip visitors and more school
groups than ever before. Under the
motto ‘take part, touch, try’, the
‘youth exhibition’ had an enormous
range of offers on display on over
40,000 m 2 and served as a perfect
trend barometer for the young target
group. The mixture of music, sport,
lifestyle and education was met with
great enthusiasm by school groups on
Friday and by other young visitors on
the other two days.
STAEDTLER was not only present
with an open-plan exhibition booth
in a fresh design. The different pro-
Technique
So the development of WOPEX
proved to be quite a sensation, both as
far as the technically sophisticated
manufacturing procedure, ‚the co-extrusion
with wood‘, is concerned as
well as the uniqueness and level of innovation
of the WOPEX material itself.
The development of the innovative
natural fi bre material with 70 % wood
has enabled the production of a pencil
which combines innovation with ecology,
technique and tenacity. The pencil
is available in the degrees HB, 2H
and 2B. The use of the WOPEX material
enables a signifi cantly more effi -
cient utilisation of wood per tree. The
wood for WOPEX pencils comes from
PEFC-certifi ed, sustainably managed
forests in Germany.
Tenacity
Its endurance is refl ected in a writeout
length that is up to twice as long as
that of conventional wood-cased pencils
and a particularly high level of
break resistance. In addition to this,
WOPEX offers a unique writing experi-
motions, measures and activities on
offer at the STAEDTLER stand enabled
a direct communication with
visitors and gave them the opportunity
to ‘touch and try, see, test and
find out more’ for themselves, meaning
they were able to experience the
WOPEX user benefits first-hand. The
message that WOPEX ‘feels good,
writes for longer, is an enduring performer
and particularly break resistant’
was both communicated and
demonstrated to the young target
group via the claim ‘technique and
tenacity’ and by associations with
and activities centred around the
nimble-fingered sport of ‚penspinning‘.
Penspinning is a fast-moving,
contact-juggling kind of sport where
‚players’ aspire to learn and master
sophisticated tricks like ‘double
charge, sonics and finger passes’ in
different levels of difficulty.
The penspinning performance artists
Henry Doan, Johannes Zimmermann
and Fabian Faessler, hired by
STAEDTLER especially for the YOU,
demonstrated the perfect suitability
of WOPEX for this nimble-fi ngered
action sport from the lifestyle sector
to a fascinated audience. In addition
to the different activities and performance
artist demonstrations, there
ence. Thanks to its non-slip, velvetysoft
surface and the fact that it is a little
heavier than traditional pencils,
WOPEX is extremely comfortable and
pleasant to hold. All of these characteristics
offer WOPEX users a great many
advantages when writing and drawing
and, as a result, higher added value!
Developments since 2009
Since its launch at the beginning of
2009, a great deal has been going on
in the world of WOPEX and the pencil
has ‘been around’ a lot. Interest in the
new pencil, its material and, last but
not least, the know-how involved has
been, and indeed still is, immense –
particularly in professional circles.
WOPEX has, for example, been
theme at a number of lectures at bio
composite congresses and has been
subjected to close examination by various
student seminars and design prize
expert panels. With great success
too ... Prizes, such as the iF material
award, Bio Composite of the Year
2009 award, Design Plus award etc.
speak for themselves.
„... unbelievable ... they’re penspinning with WOPEX?!”
was also a fl yer available providing a
short summary of the important
WOPEX facts and fi gures as well as
And WOPEX has aroused a great
deal of interest abroad too. It caught,
for example, the attention of the ‘Consortium
German Pavilion Shanghai’,
working on behalf of the Federal Ministry
of Economics and Technology
(BMWi). The result being, that in May
2010, WOPEX made a trip overseas
and had the honour to be put on display
at the EXPO Shanghai (www.expo2010-deutschland.de/en)
as an exhibit
refl ecting both innovation and
sustainability, impressing visitors to
the pavilion with its trend-setting material,
design and appealing look.
step-by-step instructions for learning
one of the many different penspinning
tricks.
Touching, trying, seeing, testing and fi nding out – that is what you
could do at STAEDTLER’s newly designed YOU fair booth.
Product samples given out at the exhibition
meant that young visitors were
not only able to try WOPEX out for
themselves, but, as a ‘plus’, were also
able to take one home with them as a
souvenir. Classic mouth-to-mouth propaganda
and association with the YOU
event will certainly arouse additional interest
for the product among friends,
schoolmates and family members who
were not able to attend the fair.
WOPEX fi lm with a
performance artist
A modern WOPEX fi lm shot with
the well-known performance artist
and celebrity Henry Doan shows him
penspinning with WOPEX in a variety
of different life and theme worlds with
which teenagers, young adults and
students can identify themselves. The
fi lm was shown on the stand in a continuous
loop on a prominently dis-
played plasma monitor and aroused a
great deal of curiosity for WOPEX.
Short spots have been made out of the
original YOU penspinning fi lm for use
on well-known social media network
sites such as facebook, youtube and,
in Germany, ‘Studi and SchuelerVZ’ as
well as on our own homepage. They
show the different theme worlds
‘park, offi ce, café and city’ and everyday
situations which teenagers and
young adults can identify themselves
with. Different situations and reactions
of other people to the penspinning
artist are showed and zoomed in
on which make the viewer want to
fi nd out for himself what it feels like to
touch WOPEX and what other kinds of
things – apart from drawing and writing
– it can be used for.
These short spots, which are also
available for dealers for POS advertising,
arouse interest in WOPEX and
show the innovative pencil and its user
benefi ts in a ‘short and snappy’ way
using fi tting examples. STAEDTLER
subsidiaries all over the world, agencies
and cooperation partners can use
the spots for their own activities or TV
advertising purposes.
Wherever you look,
STAEDTLER‘s involved
The WOPEX fi lm shows different theme worlds like ‘park, offi ce, café and city’.
Another attention-grabbing exhibition
event which was also directed at
a young and active target group was a
competition organised together a
partner from the sports sector. By cooperating
with the Nuremberg sports
article retailer ‘TX Sports’, we were
able to both promote and challenge
the creativity of young visitors to the
exhibition by carrying out a skateboard
design competition.
TX Sports was responsible for the
idea, realisation and preparation of
the paper skateboard-shaped pattern
sheets. STAEDTLER supported the
event by supplying the required creative
tools, i.e. STAEDTLER products
such as triplus color fi bre-tip pens,
Lumocolor markers, ergosoft coloured
pencils, textsurfer highlighters, wax
crayons and many more besides, enabling
participants to come up with creative,
colourful and artistic designs for
the skateboards.
The winner was rewarded for his
creative work with a fully-equipped
skateboard deck. And that’s not all,
the winning artist was also honoured
by his design being chosen for the production
of 100 limited edition skateboards.
This limited edition skateboard
has been available since
December 2010 in the Nuremberg TX
Sports outlet exclusively in a special
package complete with a STAEDTLER
Lumocolor marker and STAEDTLER
mobile offi ce.
It is particularly at exhibitions like
the YOU that the young target group
is to be found en bloc. They are there
to fi nd out more about what’s new,
gather information on the latest
trends or simply have an exciting day
out with friends and maybe treat
themselves to something special.
Characteristic of this ‘Generation Future’
is that, despite only a ‘limited
and irregular’ income, it likes to make
spontaneous purchases, sees shopping
as a fun way to pass time and
displays an above-average willingness
to pass on shopping tips to others.
Modern-day teenagers and
young adults are experience-oriented,
individualistic and single-minded
and, at the same time, have a strong
affi nity for technology and media.
The way WOPEX was presented at
the YOU with performance artists,
fi
ppeople
traits spot-on and
made the exhibition a
great success for
WOPEX.
THE STAEDTLER NORIS CLUB –
LEAVES NOTHING TO BE DESIRED
STAEDTLER offers a wide range of educationally valuable ideas for kindergarten, preschool and school.
At the same time, STAEDTLER Noris Club products stand for high-quality painting and colouring fun and
promote the creative development of children.
In order to present our products attractively
and in a manner appealing
to children, we develop new exciting
displays every year that make
children‘s faces light up with delight.
Following on from the successful rocket
and tree displays of the last two
years, we have designed an impressive
robot for 2011. Not only does it fi t
in perfectly with the motto of this
year’s World Kids Colouring Day – ‘Inventions
from around the world’ – but
also with STAEDTLER‘s corporate philosophy.
After all, STAEDTLER has always
stood for innovative product ideas
of the highest possible brand
quality. From Johann Sebastian
Staedtler’s invention of the coloured
oil pastel pencil that ‘can be sharpened
to a point just like a pencil’ to the
fi rst overhead pen, right up to more
recent innovations such as A·B·S, DRY
SAFE or WOPEX – all of them ideas
your own personal ‘favourites’.
The STAEDTLER Noris Club
is more than just a product
name
Currently numbering more than
15,000 members, the Noris Club is an
active children’s club which aims at
promoting the creative development
of children. Via the Noris Club magazine
and Noris Club internet website,
children are able to learn about
themes of high educational value in
an entertaining way through a series
of fun and games. Our mascot Nori
and his friends also encourage mem-
bers not only to paint, colour and
draw but also use their brains.
The Noris Club magazine is packed
full of new ideas and interesting topics
and is published twice a year. In addition
to this, the website offers children
the chance to explore the world of Nori
and his friends in a variety of ways, e.g.
via child-oriented learning topics, crafting
instructions, colouring pages or
theme-related activity calendars.
Be creative –
even when out-and-about
“Are we nearly there yet?” This is a
question parents often get to hear
from their children on a long trip. In
order to ensure that no-one gets bored
either on the way to or while at the
holiday destination, STAEDTLER has
come up with a new travel kit. Ideal
whether out-and-about or at home,
young artists can let their imagination
run wild with the coloured pencils, fi -
bre-tip pens and gel crayons enclosed.
It goes withou without saying that the practi-
cal cardboard
case also comes com-
pplete
with just the right
such as
sh sharpener, eraser, pencil
ular
highlight is the rainbow
pencil
which enables colour-
ing wit with three colours at the
travel kit kit, nothing stands in the
way of a re relaxed, creative journey.
STAEDTLER also offers lesson
fairy tales, planet earth with
all of its continents and ‚How does the
STAEDTLER offers lesson material
of high educational value complete
FIMO is the best-known brand in the world when it comes to oven-hardening modelling clays, it is a synonymous
with unlimited modelling fun for all age groups and has written creative history. Invented, refi ned and manufactured
in Germany, this colourful modelling clay has long since gone international to take the global markets by storm.
Jewellery ideas –
easy to make with the new
FIMO jewellery sets
Well-known jewellery designers
such as Sarah Shriver show us how it’s
done and use FIMO to create breathtaking
jewellery, coveted by customers
all over the world. Statements like “I
could never make that” and “that’s
much too diffi cult for me” are now a
thing of the past thanks to FIMO’s
easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions.
The comprehensive jewellery
FIMO set concepts
The FIMO Workshop Box unites
new sets are being launched onto
the market complete with step-bystep
instructions on how to create
complicated techniques like ‘kaleidoscope’
and ‘paisley pattern’, providing
users with the know-how
they need for designing customised
pieces of jewellery or home deco
objects of their own. The set concept,
distinguished with the Creative
Impulse Award, is popular with
both young and old alike and has
already become somewhat of a collector’s
item. The new themes complement
the existing range perfectly
and enable users to learn
different FIMO techniques without
any trouble at all.
modelling. The pleasant haptic feeling
and ability to create any shape they
like makes children’s hearts skip a beat
What could be nicer for children than
to play with the fi gures they’ve just
made and then put them away for another
day. With FIMO modelling clay,
they can. As once it‘s been hardened in
the oven, there‘s nothing to stop the
modelled work of art becoming a favourite
plaything.
With the set concept ‘Kits for Kids’,
also distinguished with the Creative
Impulse Award, STAEDTLER offers children
a wide choice of easy-to-make
motifs. The new motifs ‘Robots’ and
‘Unicorn’ are going to bring light into
the darkness thanks to their nightglow
colour. As a special pigment ensures
that their fl uorescent power gets recharged
every time they‘re exposed to
either natural or artifi cial light. Unlimited
modelling fun – guaranteed!
Indispensable helpers –
FIMO Accessoires
With the right tools, it‘s even easier
to use FIMO to transform creative ideas
into impressive, precise results.
With its ‘FIMO Accessoires’ line,
STAEDTLER has developed a range of
accessories designed to meet the demands
of users and leave nothing to
be desired. And the best is yet to
come: in 2011, FIMO fans can look forward
to more, new highlights.
Finally in the range –
the original FIMO clay
machine
Modelling artists have been waiting
for the FIMO clay machine for a
long time now. As, from now on, this
handy piece of equipment can be used
by both beginners and professionals
alike to bring their favourite modelling
clay even more perfectly into shape.
Popular FIMO techniques such as
FIMO soft Modelling Modde
Clay
millefi ori, geometrics or mokume nendo
can be created easily and precisely
using uniformly thick or extra-thin
rolled-out sheets of FIMO. It’s also
much quicker to blend colours with
the clay machine than by hand. During
the development phase of the FIMO
clay machine, the needs and requirements
of users were always at the focus
of attention. The extra-wide roller
for larger sheets of FIMO and the high
level of stability offer additional ad-
vantages when working with the machine.
Perfect fi nish – thanks to the
new FIMO Grind’n polish set
In autumn 2010, practical sanding
sponges were added to the FIMO Accessoires
range for adding fi nishing
touches to hardened FIMO creations.
The three different grades ‘fi ne’, ‘superfi
ne’ and ‘microfi ne’ are available
for a perfect smoothing and sanding
of hardened FIMO surfaces. A truly indispensable
e tool not only for modelling
artists, but for anyone aspiring to
become one.
For Fo F r an easy stringing
of beads
For jewellery je ller artists, bead piercing
needles are a very helpful tool and are
used for a distortion-free piercing of
modelled objects and beads. As from
2011, FIMO bead piercing needles will
be available in a set complete with
two different diameters, practically
packed in a plastic tube. Thanks to the
needles, it is no trouble at all to string
the beads after hardening.
STAEDTLER TRIPLUS FINELINER –
NOW IN 30 BRILLIANT COLOURS
The triplus fi neliner with its ergonomic shape for relaxed writing and
DRY SAFE technology for preventing a quick drying up of the ink is the
perfect companion whatever the situation.
Now available in 30 different vibrant
colours, the triplus fi neliner
is a match for any rainbow.
Not only does the array of
colours offer great variety – the range
of uses for the fi neliner is very varied d
too: Whether red for teacher correc-
tions, blue for order forms, black for r
crossword puzzles or the new carmine e
and lime green colours for adding an n
individual touch to revision notes. As s
from March, with the addition of 10 0
new pens bringing the total number of f
brilliant rainbow colours up to 30, our
triplus fi neliner range will offer the
widest variety of colours in the
STAEDTLER fi neliner segment.
The new triplus colours are available
in different combinations: in a
display, p y in sets of six in the STAEDTLER
box, individually or in the new ‘girlie’
sets.
The new colours are, for example,
available in sets of six fi neliners in the
new colour combinations ‘pastel
shades’ and ‘natural shades’ in the
practical ‘stand up and start writing’
STAEDTLER box. The new girlie sets in
light violet and green-coloured transparent
STAEDTLER boxes are particularly
trendy and eye-catching. The
‘city’ and ‘party’ stickers on the front
are
real attention-grabbers and refl ect
tw two modern-day lifeworlds which
yo young girls can identify with. Each of
th the girlie sets comes complete with six
tri triplus fi neliners from the ‘pastel
sh shades’ line.
Another highlight from the new
triplus fi neliner range for 2011 is the
ultra-modern cotton pencil case fi lled
with 20 different-coloured pens. The
colourful lifestyle image from the
wo world of ‘music and party’ on the
fro front and its ‚used‘ look makes it a
‘m ‘must’ for any trend-fi lled rucksack.
Th There is also a trendy-looking neo-
pr prene pencil case from the theme
wo world ‘beach and leisure’ available –
th this one too comes complete with 20
tri triplus fi neliners.
Another product special lined up
fo for 2011 is the new triplus fi neliner
coffee mug, m which comes fi lled with a
selection
of 40 fi neliners ... a welcome
guest in any offi ce or home or on any
school or student desk. The triplus cof-
fee mug
is made out of white porce-
lain and
has a 5 cm wide dark violet
sili silicon ilico
con ri rring n around it, both perfect for
di ddisplaying splayin the STAEDTLER imprint and
fo for ensuring ensur a fi rm grip when fi lling
with a hot beverage. And not only can
it be used for holding drinks, the
triplus coffee mug also serves as an
attractive attention-grabbing triplus
fi neliner display for placement on shop
counters or as a pen-holder for desks
at home or work. So users always have
just the right colour to hand.
A particularly, user-friendly and –
thanks to its triangular shape – eyecatching
new product is the ‘mix your
own box’ display comprising the entire
triplus range. Here, shoppers are free
to choose whichever articles they like
from the triplus range – whether for
example the fi neliner or roller, mechanical
pencil, triplus color, textsurfer
or triplus ball ballpoint pen. Or, they
can take advantage of the chance to
fi ll one of the four different translucent
STAEDTLER boxes (light green, anthracite,
turquoise and light violet) with a
selection of triplus products – otherwise
not available in that combination
as a standard article.
10 new triplus fi neliner colours
New products and promotions in
the triplus range are not just restricted
to the fi neliners though – STAEDTLER
has also come up with something new
for the ballpoint pen segment too.
AND FURTHER ‘ADDITION TO
THE TRIPLUS FAMILY’
New triplus family member in the ballpoint pen segment
The STAEDTLER ballpoint pen triplus
426 in the line widths F and M and
in the barrel colours blue, black,
red and green is the newest member to
join the triplus family.
Its design is equivalent to the awardwinning
mechanical pencil 776 which
was launched last year and distinguished
with the reddot design award 2008. Just
like the mechanical pencil, the ballpoint
pen counterpart, triplus 426, comes
equipped with a non-slip rubberised barrel
surface and harmonious, rounded triangular
shape. This ensures that it doesn’t
twist around even during intense writing
and drawing use and that the writing
hand stays relaxed and unstrained when
used for longer periods of time. In the
case of the triplus 426, the barrel colour
refl ects the colour of the ink, it is refi llable
and offers a wonderfully smooth writing
experience. Its indelible ink conform-
ing to ISO12757-2 makes it a true
all-round talent for offi ce use.
HIBISCUS FLOWERS AS
BALLPOINT PEN DESIGN
When it comes to trendy ballpoint
pen designs, another
absolute ‘beauty’ is the new
STAEDTLER elance ‘hibiscus edition’.
As far as exciting realisations of new
ideas in the fi eld of ballpoint pen
design are concerned, the new elance
hibiscus comes second to none
compared to earlier ‘distinguished’
designs, such as the triplus ball. The
pictured fl ower motifs from the theme
world ‘beach and leisure’ are extreme-
ly chic and the wonderful shiny fi nish
of the three different-coloured barrels
underlines the high-quality appearance
of this product. STAEDTLER’s
elance hibiscus with its enchanting violet
fl ower design fi ts in perfectly with
the contemporary ‘music, lifestyle and
leisure‘ lifeworlds of young adults.
This makes it a highly coveted accessory
and, as such, an absolute ‘must’
for any rucksack or handbag.
From high-contrast fl ower motifs to
new triplus family members and the
great diversity of the mechanical pencil
range – inspirations from STAEDTLER
are to be found wherever you look.
EVEN GREATER DIVERSITY IN THE
STAEDTLER MECHANICAL PENCIL RANGE
One new mechanical pencil and
one existing mechanical pencil
in a new design increase the
STAEDTLER diversity and enhance the
range with the addition of hip colours
and designs.
The STAEDTLER graphite 764 in the
four fresh colours pink, green, turquoise
and lavender is very much in
vogue. Its tapered grip zone is extralong
and comes equipped with a nonslip
rubberised surface. So even in the
most stressful of exam situations for
example, you are assured of a good,
fi rm hold. The graphite 764 is pocketsafe
thanks to its retractable lead
sleeve. This slides back while writing,
thereby protecting the lead against
breakage. To ensure good erasing results,
the graphite 764 is equipped
with an extra-long twist eraser which
is, of course, both PVC and latex-free.
It is available in the line widths 0.5
and 0.7 mm and comes complete with
three mechanical pencil leads in degree
B and one spare eraser. Mechanical
pencil lead tubes in matching colours
make perfect trend accessories
for these mechanical pencils. For every
purchase of a graphite 764 on a blister
card, there is a tube of mechanical
pencil leads included free of charge.
Also new are the coloured mechanical
pencil lead tubes to match the classic
STAEDTLER Mars micro 775 – already
launched in new trend colours at the
Paperworld 2010. The new lead tubes
and their mechanical pencil counterparts
are very special specimens from
our great diversity of mechanical pencils.
Each one is more stunning than
the next and the attractive, fresh colours
are real eye-catchers and sure to
stand out whether in a pencil case, an
offi ce or simply on a desk.
The STAEDTLER graphite 777 music
edition is a mechanical pencil in retro design.
The image of a microphone in the
vivid colours violet, blue and light green
is used to refl ect the theme world ‘music’
and stands out particularly well
against the plain black background of
the barrel. The three different-coloured
worlds of music each come with different
background motifs and, with music
being a popular and modern theme
world, appeal to teenagers in particular.
Music, notes and even popstars are
trend themes to be found in many different
areas of adolescents’ lives. Whether
on posters or clothing, music is a contemporary
theme that’s around us all
the time and plays a huge part in a teenager’s
everyday life. The world of music
is a theme we have picked up on for our
range of mechanical pencils and is now
to be found on the STAEDTLER graphite
777 music edition as well as on the
matching display and blister cards.
LUMOCOLOR –
THE SURFACE SPECIALIST
Lumocolor correctable –
for dry and clean correcting
The STAEDTLER Lumocolor correctable
was launched in the year 2009 as
the perfect school companion and has
since gone on to prove its worth as a
true expert when it comes to writing
on smooth surfaces such as write-on
fi lms, sheet covers, laminates or
school whiteboards. With the
Lumocolor correctable, mistakes can
be corrected easily with the wiper at
the end of the pen and, what‘s more,
it‘s dry and clean to use.
With the ‘correctable‘, accidental
smudging while writing is a thing of
the past and it is also suitable for
use on paper as the writing does
not bleed through. The addition of
the colours red and green to the
existing range provides users with
even more ‘school companions’
to choose from. A new, redesigned
packaging concept, variety
of counter displays, combination
of the line widths F
and M together in one display
and availability of all
four colours in one
STAEDTLER box all contribute
to enhancing
the diversity of the
Lumocolor correct-
able for dealers and, as a result, for
consumers too. Lumocolor correctable
is available with immediate effect in
the four colours black, blue, red and
green.
A familiar ‘surface‘ in a
great design
The special edition Lumocolor
memo board is a familiar product in a
new attractive look. The clever memo
board in practical A5 size is a self-adhesive
note board which can be used time
and time again, anywhere you like. It
can be dry-wiped, written on repeatedly
and removed from smooth surfaces
like ffridges
and affi xed to other smooth
surfa surfaces without leaving a trace. The
mem memo board is truly ingenious and is an
idea ideal and practical means of communi-
catio cation when you want to leave a note
or information i for someone else or
whe when you want to remind yourself of
som something later. The appealing design
depi depicts a bistro / coffee setting. So the
Lum Lumocolor memo board is not only a
prac practical helper, but also makes an at-
tr tract tractive decorative object for the kitch-
en oor
offi ce at the same time. As in the
case
of the standard memo board,
there
Two surface specialists for
specifi c applications
There are two new products in the
Lumocolor pen segment which are
simply perfect for their specifi c areas
of application. The garden marker in
line width M has been designed for
outdoor applications like for writing
and marking on stickers, signs, fl ower
pots etc. So now, the days in which
you had to struggle to make out what
was written on your herb pots after a
shower of rain are well and truly over.
The garden marker is waterproof,
lightfast and weatherproof. The laundry
marker is also a permanent marker
in line width F and is particularly
suitable for the lasting labelling of
textiles. So, in kindergartens for example,
identical pieces of children‘s
clothing won‘t get mixed up any
more. It also facilitates the identifi cation
of laundry in hospitals and rehab
clinics without having to go through
the laborious task of sewing
name tags on or suffer
the expense of having
the patients’ names printed
The newly designed, eye-catching pigment liner displays for individual pens and STAEDTLER box sets depict
Illustrations of his New York and Chicago
of his works of art and,
together with a portrait of the artist,
are now to be found on the STAEDTLER
just from looking at the displays, that
the pigment liner is ideal for drawing
and sketching applications.
The artist Stephen Wiltshire
Stephen Wiltshire is an artist who
draws and paints detailed cityscapes.
He has a particular talent for drawing
lifelike, accurate representations of
cities, sometimes after having only observed
them briefl y. He was awarded
an MBE for services to the art world in
2006. Stephen studied Fine Art at City
& Guilds Art College. His work is popular
all over the world, and is held in a
number of important collections.
Stephen was born in London to
West Indian parents on 24th April,
1974. As a child he was mute, and did
not relate to other human beings.
Aged three, he was diagnosed as autistic.
He had no language and lived
entirely in his own world.
At the age of fi ve, Stephen was
sent to Queensmill School in London,
where it was noticed that the only pastime
he enjoyed was drawing. It soon
became apparent he communicated
with the world through the language
of drawing; fi rst animals, then London
buses, and fi nally buildings. These
drawings show a masterful perspective,
a whimsical line, and reveal a natural
innate artistry. Aged eight, Stephen
started drawing cityscapes after
the effects of an earthquake (all imaginary),
as a result of being shown photographs
of earthquakes in a book at
school. He also became obsessed with
illustrations of classic American cars at
this time (his knowledge of them is encyclopaedic),
and he drew most of the
major London landmarks.
The teachers at Queensmill School
encouraged him to speak by temporarily
taking away his art supplies so that
he would be forced to ask for them.
Stephen responded by making sounds
and eventually uttered his fi rst word –
„paper.“ He learned to speak fully at
the age of nine.
In 198 1987, the BBC QED programme,
‚The Fool Foolish Wise Ones‘, featured Ste-
phen‘s astounding a talent. Stephen
was intro introduced by Sir Hugh Casson
(past pre president of the Royal Acade-
my), who
described him as „the best
child arti artist in Britain“. Stephen‘s work
has since
been the subject of numer-
ous tele television programmes around
the worl world. He has been featured in
many bo books, and his own third book
Floati Floating ting ng Cities (1991) was number
one in tthe
Sunday Times Bestseller
Li List List. st.
Meanw Meanwhile, Stephen‘s artworks
were be being exhibited frequently in
venues aall
over the world. In 2001 he
appeared
in another BBC documentary,
‚Fragments of Genius‘, for which he
was fi lmed fl ying over London aboard
a helicopter, and subsequently completing
a detailed and perfectly scaled
aerial illustration of a four-square-mile
area within three hours. His drawing
included 12 historic landmarks and
200 other structures.
In October and November 2003,
thousands fl ocked to the ‘Orleans
House’ Gallery in Twickenham, near
London, England, to see the fi rst major
retrospective of Stephen‘s work. The
exhibition covered the 20-year period,
from 1983 to 2003, and comprised 150
examples of Stephen‘s drawings,
paintings and prints.
World Kids Colouring Day
COLOURING MAKES INVENTIVE –
WORLD KIDS COLOURING DAY 2011
‘Inventions from around the world’ is the motto of the World Kids Colouring Day 2011. And not without good
reason either – after all, all great inventions in the past have had to start somewhere and began as mere ide-
as on paper before going on to change the world. Whether light bulb, telephone or car: Creativity and inspi-
ration are essential if we want to create something new
This is why, on this year’s World
Kids Colouring Day, STAEDTLER
is calling on both young and old
artists alike to draw their most ingenious
invention. The more creative
the better – the sky’s the limit. And
the event day itself knows no bounds
either: All over the world, children,
school and nursery school teachers
and parents participate in local colouring
events, thereby actively contributing
in making the 6th May a success.
In 2010, for example, over
750,000 young artists around the
globe took part –
from North
America to Japan and even as far
away as Australia.
Understanding the world
through colouring
There’s no limit to a child’s creativity.
When young artists get going, there
is nothing they can’t do. This holds true
for colouring in particular: New, fantastic
worlds emerge from a collection
of lines, shapes and colours. And, not
only is colouring fun, it also plays a key
role in a child‘s development. It is
through pictures that we learn to understand
the world in which we live
and to express our own ideas. Our creativity
paves the way for us come to
grips with an ever increasingly complex
society and to explore new paths.
STAEDTLER not only offers just the
right tools for this, but also actively
supports boys and girls all over the
planet in learning to rediscover the
world of colouring for themselves.
So, on World Kids Colouring Day, initiated
by STAEDTLER in 2008, children
not only move a pencil, pen or crayon,
they move the entire world. Every year
on the 6th May, budding artists put
their ideas to paper on an annually
changing theme and bring them to life.
Afterwards, the works of art are given
to family and friends in exchange for a
small donation which goes towards
supporting different educational projects
around the world. As ‘children
colour for children in need’ is the motto
of every World Kids Colouring Day.
The money collected in Germany, for
example, is donated to projects run by
the SOS Children’s Villages, an aid organisation
which has been standing up
for the needs and rights of children for
almost 60 years now.
Now, in 2011, following on from the
excellent feedback of the past three
years, STAEDTLER is again on the look-
out for children, parents, schools, kindergartens
and clubs willing to organise
colouring events, (re-)discover how
much fun colouring can be and – at the
same time – play an active role in helping
a good cause.
Project example:
SOS Children’s Villages in
Germany and the whole world
Laughing, crying, eating, playing or
colouring together: For children, a caring
environment and a family in which
they feel accepted and supported are –
literally – necessities of life. It is for this
reason that the organisation SOS Children’s
Villages has set itself the task of
creating positive, family-like living environments
for children in need. In Germany,
there are fi fteen SOS Children‘s
Villages providing new, child-friendly
homes to children who are not able to
live with their biological parents. Specially
trained SOS Children’s Village
‘mothers’ and ‘fathers’ are there for
them around the clock, helping them
develop into strong, independentthinking
adults. The organisation also
attaches great importance to providing
short and medium-term support
too: Whether residential groups, youth
clubs, advisory, training or maternity
centres – in Germany, there are a total
of forty-six SOS Children’s Village facilities
where competent teams made up
of qualifi ed specialists offer assistance,
advice and support to more than
50,000 children and young adults in
need of help. Established in Austria in
1949, the organisation is today active
all over the world. Over the past years,
around fi ve hundred SOS Children’s
Villages and over 1,500 other facilities
have been established in more than
150 countries around the globe – all of
them following the same goal: Helping
children in need and offering them a
future worth living.
© SOS-Kinderdorf e.V.
This is where the World Kids Colouring
Day makes an important contribution:
Thanks to the donations collected
on the 6th May in Germany, new
aid projects can be funded and more
help can be provided. STAEDTLER Germany
also plays a very active role. The
company supports the sustained promotion
of creativity in SOS Children’s
Villages in Germany by providing
workshops, colouring utensils and other
creative products.
On the 6th May, colouring is
on the (time-) table
Together, we can move the world –
that’s why it‘s not just children we
need on World Kids Colouring Day, but
adults too. Get together with your
class, your group or your club on World
Kids Colouring Day and organise your
own colouring event, rediscover how
much fun colouring can be and – at the
same time – take part in a world-wide
THE HONG KONG BOOK FAIR 2010
The Hong Kong Book Fair was in 2010 the most fabulous consumer nsumer
event in summer and was staged for the 21st time. About 920,000 20,000
visitors attended, which was 2 % more than in 2009. The book fair is a
true family event and aims to promote reading culture.
This end-user exhibition opened
its doors from 21st to 27th July
and was held at the Hong Kong
Convention and Exhibition Centre
(HKCEC). In order to attract attention
to the 175th anniversary of our company
and to highlight the way to the
fair, STAEDTLER Hingkong erected a
billboard featuring WOPEX, FIMO and
the STAEDTLER milestones timeline
next to the HKCEC. The advertising period
lasted for 2 months from 12th July
to 11th September 2010.
A steam train provided the main focus
for the exhibition booth design –
the idea originating from our 175th
anniversary set concept. We were delighted
with the positive reaction we
received from visitors and the press.
The STAEDTLER stand was always
busy and surrounded by crowds of interested
people. The aim to display a
high-profi le corporate image and to
make us stand out from the competition
was achieved.
Colouring and creativity were our
central themes. For colouring, we promoted
the karat range, with its watercolour
pencils, soft pastel chalks and
oil pastels, and the STAEDTLER
ergosoft products. The focus
was, however, very much on
karat, as this comprehensive
range of high-quality products
makes it the ideal choice for
both hobby and professional
users alike. In order to attract
attention to our stand, we had
invited artists to come and
draw pictures for the children.
The purpose of these demonstrations
was to arouse the interest
of children and their
parents, our key target group.
The presentations also provid-
STAEDTLER guides the way to the Hong Kong fair
Artwork Artwork with karat
ed us with an opportunity to pass on
user tips and information on product
applications. What’s more, this personal
selling strategy was an effective
means for converting purchase impulses
into actual purchases!
Creativity was the other central
theme. Here, we highlighted the integration
of FIMO under the STAEDTLER
umbrella brand. We had a FIMO do-ityourself
video playing and modelled
objects on display for visitors to pick
up and touch, enabling them to experience
fi rst-hand just how FIMO differs
from other clays on the market. In addition
to this, we had a hobby art promoter
on the booth who gave step-bystep
instructions to kids on how shape
and bake FIMO to create fabulous fi gures
and objects.
Further STAEDTLER products had
been presented; for example our eyecatching
Noris Club magic tree displays
had been set up on our stand to
showcase our vast school range. Another
area featured Lumocolor, the
mechanical pencil range and our latest
innovation, WOPEX. To attract attention
to WOPEX, we had a short fi lm
running and eye-catching POS advertising.
Last, but not least, we also presented
our triplus products. We had
reserved a large area of our booth
where consumers had plenty of space
Issue no. 177 January 2011
to look at, write and test these products
extensively.
The fair was a great success – evident
by the long queues to be seen at
Activities around ergosoft products
the checkout. Our main objective –
which had been to showcase our new
products – had been achieved and
many inspirations could be offered to
our visitors.
CYBERNETICS, SYSTEMIC
THINKING AND THE ECOPOLICYADE
One thing at a time however –
to explain, the Ecopolicyade is
a computer simulation game
developed by Frederic Vester that was
designed to stimulate and foster strategic
thinking. Since 2004, the Ecopolicyade
also takes place as a competition
and, since 2008, has been
established as a nationwide competition
for students in grades 7 through
10. Here, teams of up to three participants
compete against each other.
These national youth games for the
mind are sponsored by the German
Federal Centre for Political Education
and by Malik Management (St. Gallen,
Switzerland). Malik Management has
integrated Frederic Vester‘s work in its
systemic-cybernetic management approach
and holds the rights to the Ecopolicy
computer simulation game.
Background
Issue no. 177 January 2011 STAEDTLER International
STAEDTLER International
If you’re asking yourself what the Ecopolicyade is about, it might best be described as ‘national youth games
for the mind.’ Effective immediately, STAEDTLER will now be participating as a cooperation partner.
The idea behind this computer simulation
game is to develop an understanding
for complex political decisions
and their effects on various
areas of society. The Ecopolicyade cultivates
and promotes networked
thinking. The decisions made by the
students are simulated as to their interaction
and effects on various living
aspects and illustrate the complex impacts
and effects of political and economic
actions.
What is the goal?
The goal of the simulation is to
govern a country over 12 ‘rounds,’ or
governing years, in such a manner that
the country can develop ideally in regard
to economic, ecological and social
standpoints. Here it must be taken
into consideration how to guide an industrial,
emerging or developing country
in such a way that a stable balance
is maintained between the areas of
STAEDTLER Noris Club – Website Relaunch
Since the beginning of 2005, a
multi-layered and well-visited
portal designed for children
above pre-school age and their families
has been growing.
Current topics and highly educational
articles on the topics of colouring,
writing and crafts alternate with
entertaining games and great creative
tips.
These specially-tailored pages,
with which children can familiarise
themselves with the world of the In-
Brainstorming during governing and decision-making!
politics, production, environmental
impact, quality of life, restructuring,
education, population and demographic
development. Not all of these
areas can be directly infl uenced in the
simulation game. Reciprocal actions
and feedback effects must be constantly
monitored and taken into consideration
for further decisions. An additional
challenge is presented by
‘event cards,’ which can have a positive
or negative effect on various areas
of the system.
“Here it depends on observing various
effect networks and causal relationships
and bringing all factors into
balance – for example, despite a good
economic situation, there may quickly
be a coup d‘état as the environment
threatens to collapse”, commented
Hans-Werner Hansen, co-initiator of
the competition.
‘Ecopolicy’ demands not only political
thinking and action, but also
group dynamics and teamwork. In this
competition the participants improve
their ability to work as a team. These
ternet, were given a comprehensive
‘facelift’ in September 2010.
The clear structure into various
subject areas (knowledge, wledge, games,
downloads, e-cards, crafts, rafts,
product tips, teacher/ /
educator areas) was
kept, but the navigation
has become
more intuitive, the
appearance of the
website more modern
and attractively
designed – a smart,
STAEDTLER Digital Pen. Just as with
other conventional writing instruments,
ideas can fi rst be brought directly
to paper – it works on paper just
like a normal ballpoint pen. From there
however, the STAEDTLER Digital Pen
effortlessly transfers all handwritten
notes, whether personal or those
gathered in a team, directly to a computer.
A digital receiver is attached to
a notebook or blotter pad via a clip,
enabling your ideas, thoughts and remarks
to be recorded whether at
home or away. The transfer of the
notes to the computer in data form
takes place via USB cable and, via the
included OCR software, all handwritten
notes can be converted to computer
script. Notes, reports or drawings
can be exported to MS Offi ce programmes
such as MS Word or e-mails
in just a few easy steps. Here they can
be edited, further worked upon or sent
via e-mail for discussion and coordination
with others.
It is therefore no wonder that the
STAEDTLER Digital Pen is an inherent
part of the Ecopolicyade team. Game
results are recorded in writing, ideas
and solutions are sketched or busily
shared back and forth with team
members.
STAEDTLER participates in the Ecopolicyade
not only by providing the
players with the Digital Pen as an integrated
working tool; the traditionbased
manufacturer of writing instruments
also provides other useful
products for these national ‘youth
games for the mind.’ In this manner,
the informational events for educators
in the individual German states, as
well as for the result decisions at the
state and national level can be optimally
supported. Moreover,
STAEDTLER also offers assistance in
locating an exclusive venue for presentation
of the state-wide results in
Bavaria that is worthy of this ‘creative
think tank’ competition.
The motto ‘STAEDTLER – Your
Inspiration’ is not just the guiding
theme of the company but also symbolises
the principles of integrated,
networked thinking within the company.
Through its support as a sponsor of
the Ecopolicyade, the idea of integrated
thinking at STAEDTLER is not just
demonstrated within the company,
but also outwardly. Because, as stated
in the words of Frederic Vester: “what
we need is a new view of reality. Insight
that many things we view separately
are in fact interconnected; that
these connecting invisible threads behind
the scenes are often more important
for the happenings in the world
than the things themselves.”
For many years the city of Nuremberg,
emphasise and put into practice human
rights at the local level, thereby
to implementing a culture of
To express this special contribution
of businesses and emphasise their role
will now award the ‘Nuremberg
in 2010.
In its decision from 14 July 2010,
the Nuremberg city council unanimously
followed the vote of the jury
was stated that STAEDTLER’s “corpo-
NATIONAL PAINTING & DRAWING CONTEST IN PORTUGAL
At the beginning of the new school year, STAEDTLER Portugal once again organised the National Painting &
Drawing Contest. This year’s theme was ‘Wonders of the Water World’. As usual, the event was supported
by the National Teachers’ Association and well-known kids’ TV channel NICKELODEON. This year, addition-
al support was received by the Lisbon Oceanarium – obviously very much related to the theme.
STAEDTLER has been promoting
this contest since the academic
year 2002 / 2003. The contest is
well accepted, enjoys a high level of
participation and is a great success
every time. This year, the competition
began in September 2010 and ran until
January 2011.
Last time round, Nori and Sponge-
Bob aimed to increase children’s
awareness for environmental problems.
This involved an adventure activity
in which children were able to
learn about different ways to protect
the environment. This year, since it is
the ‘International Year of Biodiversity,’
we thought it a good idea to focus on
what can be done to protect the
oceans – as oceans play a crucial role
in sustaining life on earth! We have to
protect the oceans and the many species
and wonders of the water world.
Nori and SpongeBob want to actively
help alert schoolchildren to this issue
by means of the Painting & Drawing
Contest.
Children were invited to enter their
drawings or 3D works of art. Children
from 3 to 15 years could participate in
four different age groups – though
only the last 3 groups (6 – 15 year
olds) competed on a national level.
In additition to their personal prize,
the national winner will win an exciting
trip to the Lisbon Oceanarioum for
his/her entire school class and teacher
where they get the chance to ‚sleep
with the sharks’ … well, not really
sleep with the sharks, but they can enjoy
a wonderful, exciting night right
next to the big aquarium, side by side
with all different kinds of fi sh, separated
only by a wall of glass. This unfor-
STAEDTLER France has successfully
launched the Digital Pen
September 10th was D-Day in
STAEDTLER’s French affi liate. After
months of preparation, fi rst
Digital Pens were delivered to customers.
To present this new product,
STAEDTLER France had prepared a variety
of tools:
■ A special website (www.digitalpen.
staedtler.fr) providing visitors to the
site with lots of information: a short
fi lm explaining the product features,
details on where to fi nd the product
in France, FAQs, user guides, hotline
contact details, etc. etc.
■ A special fl yer listing the advantages
for dealers selling the Digital Pen
■ Display with a TV screen showing a
fi lm explaining the product features
– complete with 20 Digital
Pens
■ Advertisements in customers’
catalogues and
stationery magazines
■ A freestanding display rack for positioning
close to the display to
show different applications
■ Special PR activities for presenting
the Digital Pen to the media (magazines,
TV networks, web
sites)
Thanks to all of these
tools, we can now say that
the launch has been a success!
After only one month
of sales, more than 2,500
pieces have been sold to
French customers.
Yves Müller
And the good news is
that the sell-through
is excellent!
gettable experience will include bus
transportation as well as board and
lodging. We are sure that it will be a
night to remember!
As in the past, a website has been
set up specifi cally for the contest.
There, participants can obtain detailed
information, take a look at pictures
and winners of past contests and
fi nd out more about online hobbies.
Once again, we worked together
with NICKELODEON TV, who is running
a strong TV campaign right up
until the end of January of 2011. This
covers different spots promoting the
contest itself, spots promoting an online
hobby (offer of a special ‘Back to
School Kit’) and, for a period of 2
weeks, an interactive banner and various
posts on the Nickelodeon Facebook
page. Extensive information on
the contest was mailed to schools and
kindergartens as well as to members
of the Portuguese ‘triplus Club’ (for
teachers) and ‘Noris Club’ (for children).
STAEDTLER Portugal customers
are also an important communication
vehicle for this activity. They supported
us by displaying eye-catching POS
material (A3 standing showcards) and
information fl yers. We will keep you
informed on results ...
The Portuguese
‘Christmas Solutions Road Show’
A
couple of months before Christmas,
STAEDTLER Portugal
went ‘on the road’ with its
‘Christmas Solutions Road Show 2010’.
This Road Show was staged for one
and a half weeks from 10th – 19th October
in Lisbon, Oporto and Coimbra,
the country’s main university city. All
Portuguese sales and marketing teams
were involved in the event.
The main objective for STAEDTLER
Portugal was to present new products
and promotional packages. Doing so
in three of Portugal’s major cities
meant that we achieved direct customer
proximity. We had prepared a
set of promotional activities targeted
specifi cally for the Christmas business.
What’s more, the normal STAEDTLER
box packaging and ergosoft and
triplus product lines make perfect
Christmas gifts too. These were our
‘Christmas Solutions’!
Undisputable star of the Road
Show was the STAEDTLER Digital Pen.
This new product attracted a great
deal of attention and customers were
eager to learn more about its features
and functions. Especially pleasing for
us were the orders that were placed!
Visitors to the event were rewarded
with a STAEDTLER gift and, in addition
to this, a special discount was
granted for orders placed at the Road
Show. We were delighted that so
many of our customers dropped in to
see us at the ‘Christmas Solutions
Road Show’ and, before leaving, took
the time to place their orders!
to growing the potential of
Australia’s creative enterprises. The
CIIC is an Australian Government initi-
Drawing contests by STAEDTLER Spain
Over the course of the past few
months, we organised several
drawing contests. The main
one was targeted at school children
from Catalonia. Motto of the contest
was ‚Paint your class’ and information
about the event was sent out to more
than 5,000 primary schools.
We had three NINTENDO Wii stations
as prizes for the best three children,
and most important of all, there
were also lots of exciting STAEDTLER
products to be won for their schools.
The second best and third best drawing
of young artists
The best drawing had been submitted
by 10-year old Adriana Prous Beas
from the school ‘El Pinar de Nuestra
Señora’ in Valldoreix (Barcelona). The
school received STAEDTLER products
to the value of 1,000 €.
Claudia Rodríguez Ortega, (7
years of age) won the second prize
and her school ‘CEIP Carles Buigas’ in
Cerdanyola (Barcelona) received
1,000 € worth of STAEDTLER products
too.
Sergio García Ramírez (10 years
old) sent us the third best drawing
and won STAEDTLER products
to the value of 500 € for his
school, ‘Escola Mansuet’.
on the use of STAEDTLER
FIMO Soft as their form of
inspiration ...
“I’ve been playing with FIMO for a
few years, and the inspiration is like a
response – It just happens when I have
FIMO in my hands” ... Erin Field, jewellery
maker and graduate architect,
Durbach Block Architects.
“Working as a designer, making
homewares, I’m used to making things
with a combination of craft and practical
usage and that’s what FIMO does,
you can use it to make something with
contrasting materials” ... Liane Rossler,
co-founder Dinosaur Designs.
“I come from a sculptural background,
so I like to explore objects in
three dimensions ... FIMO reminds me
of why I became a designer in the fi rst
place, which was my love of making
During the summer months, we also
staged an exciting contest together
with the kids club ‘Rik & Rok’. The mot-
In addition to this familiar street,
Tradition wins ... At the Wanganui sculpture competition in New Zealand
From 18 September to 4 October 2010, an art competition took place in the city of Wanganui in New Zea-
land. Among the works submitted by various artists, Daniel Clifford’s sculpture ‘balancing act’ was best able
to impress the jury and emerged as the overall winner.
From 18 September to 4 October
2010, an art competition took
place in the city of Wanganui in
New Zealand. Among the works sub-
Her talent was recognised early
by one of her teachers who noticed
her neat, precise shadow-
mitted by various artists, Daniel Clifford’s
sculpture ‘balancing act’ was
best able to impress the jury and
emerged as the overall winner.
In addition to the considerable cash
prize, the winning sculpture can be admired
as a permanent installation on
the Wanganui river. As the topic for his
work, Clifford chose our STAEDTLER
tradition pencils, two of which are balancing
on the tip. The largest pencil element
in the sculpture is a lofty 4,10 metres
tall, and the smallest stands at 2.80
metres. As such the STAEDTLER message
‘tradition wins’ can be seen by
everyone from afar. Clifford says he enjoys
getting his inspiration from everyday
objects. These sometimes ‘overseen’
articles are fantastic little hints
for gaining a deeper understanding of
our culture. The artist used our tradition
pencils throughout his entire studies
of the fi ne arts and has always felt
attracted by their simple form and col-
ing technique with circles. She informed
the parents of their daughter’s
dormant talent, which inspired and en-
our scheme. In order to create a reference
to the region as well as the cultural
background, the artist modifi ed the
size and lettering and, as such, the
message of the pencils. Two contrasting
interpretations can be observed –
for example that the Maori people of
New Zealand traditionally convey history
and culture orally; whereby, as illustrated
through the portrayal of a pencil
by a European manufacturer, they are
traditionally passed along in Europe
through the written word. Whatever
associations are triggered ... as a sculpture,
the STAEDTLER tradition pencils
cut an outstanding fi gure and fi t perfectly
in the beautiful landscape of the
Wanganui region.
INSPIRED BY STAEDTLER ...
Drawing was always her passion and, even at the tender age of three, she loved to draw. We’re referring
here to the young Indian artist, Dhruthi Rao, whose parents moved to the Middle East for job reasons.
Dhruthi currently attends the Delhi Public School in Kuwait.
couraged Dhruthi to specialise in art
courses and give her best. She developed
a preference for pencil drawings
and portraits very early on, something
which has barely changed in the meantime.
An art teacher recommended
STAEDTLER pencils for school. Since
then Dhruthi draws with STAEDTLER
pencils and describes herself as a longtime
user. At fi rst the young artist used
the STAEDTLER Lumograph series in
