pennine news Farewell from Umesh Colleagues on the move “AFTER being a consultant paediatrician at Fairfield for 17 years, I am about to leave my job to take on the new post as medical director of Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh Foundation Trust. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody in the Pennine Trust for their help, support and guidance over the years. “My particular thanks go to all my medical colleagues, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and many other colleagues working in paediatrics as well as other departments. “I am proud that we have a fantastic team of nurses and doctors on the children’s wards throughout the Trust, but more so at Fairfield. Of course, I am biased but who wouldn’t be after spending 17 years with so many wonderful people! “For me, it is a mixed feeling. Happy that I am taking on a much more challenging job as the medical director (some would say, what a fool!) but really sad that I am leaving such a wonderful team behind. “The most difficult thing is leaving such a wonderful department and excellent colleagues behind. Without all their support, help and guidance I would not have been able to provide the excellent quality of care which our children and their families deserve. “I wish you all every success and I sincerely hope that I will be invited to any parties that you are planning to have, in particular the children’s department at Bury. “I would like to thank the management for the excellent support which I received during my stay at Fairfield Hospital. It is only when managers and clinicians work together that we can provide the best possible care for our patients. “Over the years, I have received strong support from many, many consultants and colleagues from other departments such as radiology, obstetrics, pathology, orthopaedics, ENT, anaesthetics, and I am ever so grateful to all of you. “I am taking nothing but sweet and happy memories with me. My wishes are with you all. Kindest regards Umesh Prabhu” Linda leaves the orthopaedic team for R&R AN orthopaedic medical secretary who was part of the team at Oldham who won the team of the year award in 007 for its KSF work has retired from the Trust to enjoy a life of retirement. Linda Howarth who worked for Mr Elsworth and who was also the deputy medical secretarial manager for Oldham and KSF facilitator, worked for the Trust for years before giving her typing fingers a rest! With a leaving party attending by friends and colleagues, Linda was presented with a National Trust membership card which her and her husband can use, Debenhams vouchers, an amethyst ring and a brooch. Already enjoying spending more time in her garden and with her grandchildren, Linda said: “I would like to thank all my friends and colleagues for the presents, cards and fantastic send off you gave me. I was overwhelmed on the day by your generosity and the kindness you showed me. It was a pleasure knowing and working with you and I will miss you, but, with my comprehensive Memory Book, everyone's still with me. I am sure you will be pleased to know how much I am enjoying retirement and the freedom it brings." Flowers and vouchers for Kath THE staff on Marland ward at Rochdale Infirmary held a retirement party in April for a long serving member of staff. Auxiliary nurse Kath Payne had worked for the Trust for 31 years when ward manager Gill Fogarty and all her friends and colleagues wished her well for the future. New director of operations HUGH Mullen has started at The Trust as the newly appointed executive director of operations. He joins Pennine from the Health and Social Care Board in Northern Ireland where he was director of performance and service improvement. He was director of operations at Salford Royal Hospitals Trust from 001 to 006, and immediately prior to that was divisional director for surgery at the former North Manchester Healthcare NHS Trust. page 14 …To provide the very best care for each patient on every occasion…
On your marks, get set for charity run PENNINE Acute Hospitals Charity recruited 30 runners (from staff and within the local communities) to fight for the finish line in the Manchester 10K Run on Sunday 16 May 010. Sporting new charity tee shirts, sponsored by Ready Steady Store of Bury New Road, the group ran on behalf of a variety of wards and departments from each of the hospital sites. Easter bunny brings money to charity THe staff and users of the coldhurst Lifelong Learning centre in Oldham held an easter raffle to raise money for the Link4Pink appeal. Pictured above in the centre is Joanne Nolan, executive assistant based at Trust HQ, who regrettably injured her foot a week before the run. Joanne is surrounded by friends who have trained together over the last three months and who all ran for the Link4Pink Appeal at The Royal Oldham Hospital. Jan Bolton, charitable fundraising manager visited the centre to receive the £65 donation.
