Thousands of Ethiopians flock to witness hospital groundbreaking in Angacha.
Hope becomes reality in Ethiopia.
Happy Holidays!
As we reflect on the blessings
of life, we are reminded
that God’s grace and your
partnership have enabled us to
reach out to those hurting in this
world.
Earlier this year, we had our
Hospital Groundbreaking Ceremony
and Celebration Services
in Angacha, Ethiopia. A group
of dear friends travelled with
us to see firsthand the powerful
difference their and your donations
made in this desperately
poor place.
Tens of thousands of Ethiopians
were present. Many had
received medical care and food
over the past several years in
Angacha through the Hand of
Hope Medical Clinic and Feeding
Programs. Many held tat-
neighbors straining to see each
member of our group. As we
took our seats, we felt so blessed
to see all the people who have
been touched by the medical
clinic and feeding program over
the years. But we were in for a
surprise. On this day the poor
people of Angacha turned the
tables on us.
On this same trip, five new
wells were dedicated in communities
where we had been
working for many years. Each
one was a dream come true for
the people in the villages! It was
so much fun for us to pump the
water from deep in the ground
and see firsthand the smiles of

the children and parents, knowing they were safe
from the deadly water borne diseases that live
on the surface of the streams, rivers and ponds
where they were forced to get their water from.
Gifts were also provided for the girls in our
orphanage. The team enjoyed presenting the gifts
and painting the girls’ fingernails. The girls were
so proud to show the team their rooms, their furniture,
dolls and all that you have helped supply.
And they sang to us! They love to sing. We feel
like these girls are our own, and we always choke
up listening to their little voices praising God for
the care you provide.
We also had the privilege of taking our
friends to visit the homes of the girls we have
“In one moment, these people who had nothing
opened their hearts and hands and
humbled us by their generosity.”
Fresh water...a new treat for these girls!
rescued from sex trafficking. We then went out
to the red light district and invited girls to come
to the grand opening of Mercy Chapel. This is
a partnership we have launched with a local
church. This program gives the girls currently
working in the red light district an opportunity to
receive vocational training and the spiritual and
emotional counseling they need to reach for their
dreams and leave their nightmares behind.
break.
Finally, we announced the plan to build a
hospital in Angacha, beginning with a surgical
center. There are over 1 million people that will
have access to this new facility. As we looked over
the crowd, one man opened his umbrella. We
thought it was beginning to rain. He then turned
the umbrella upside down, and people started
putting money into the umbrella. Then others in
the crowd began opening their umbrellas and
began collecting an offering. In one moment, these
people who had nothing opened their hearts and
hands and humbled us by their generosity. Ethiopians
who had nothing were overflowing with
love, and there was not a dry eye among us.
gift to orphan.
A total of 6,200 birr was collected from the
people. At that time, it equaled $477 U.S. dollars.
$477 may not seem like much, but to them it was
like a million dollars. These people were giving
from hearts full of hope. And who gave them that
hope? You did. THANK YOU for your faithful
support and prayers.
Have a wonderful Christmas!
To kick off the event, 135 white balloons were released to celebrate the 135 girls that ICA has already rescued from sex-trafficking. Pat
International Crisis Aid held our Second Annual
5K Run/Walk for Freedom on September
11, 2010, at Washington University in St. Louis.
The event helped raise awareness of sex trafficking
and funds for ICA’s Safe Program. In all, we
had 222 registrants, 80 volunteers, 6 vendors and
dozens of supporters join us for a day of remembrance
and hope—honoring those rescued and
many others still waiting. Together we raised
more than $16,000 to help rescue and rehabilitate
more girls.
ICA kicked off the event with a balloon
launch, releasing 135 white balloons to signify
the 135 girls ICA has already rescued from sex
trafficking and then 1 large red balloon in remembrance
of the thousands of girls still hoping to be
rescued soon. Runners and supporters stood in
silence—many with tears—as we united for one
day, one cause: bringing hope to those who have
not been forgotten.
As participants took their mark and the horn
blew, a sea of adults and children, runners and
walkers, parents pushing strollers and dogs leading
their owners all began their journey to help
rescue more girls. When the last man was nearing
the finish line, others cheered him on and stood
in awe that this man who was disabled was so determined
to help girls that he pushed beyond his
own disability, got “uncomfortable,” and finished
the race. In the same way, you can be confident
in knowing that you may not be able to run or
physically rescue a girl yourself, but you can do
something!
Proving that anything is possible, this brave and determined man
crossed the finish line last, but triumphantly.
