New, carefully selected items. Every week.

“DesignTorget is a commercial marketplace
of unique design, for customers and designers
who value style, function and innovation.”
That sums up our business concept, which also comes
across in our slogan: “New, carefully selected items.
Every week.” Once a week, a selection panel chooses
quality items from established and unknown designers,
which are then sold for a limited time in our stores.
What makes DesignTorget different from other
design stores is our selection panel and the relationship
we have with our designers. The items we select and
sell in our stores should be functional and innovative,
with a touch of humour.
And one more thing – we want to be the first to sell
them too.
We have sold
banana shells in three years!

›› HISTORY. In 1993, architect Jerry Hellström was
asked to do something interesting with the large and
“hopeless” space on the lower level of Kulturhuset,
Stockholm’s cultural arts centre. This happened at
a tough time for designers and inventors. One of
Hellström’s intentions was to come up with an idea
to create a marketplace for them and their works.
That was how DesignTorget first started. In the
early days designers sold their items right off the
loading pallets. The store owner, John Hamberg, got
involved and soon became a partner in the company.
A lot has changed over the years, and today
DesignTorget is a well-known concept among people
interested in design, interior decorating or simply
buying fun gifts.
›› CURRENT VISION. The founders have now left the
company and DesignTorget is owned entirely by Novax,
part of Axel Johnson AB, an owner that can help
DesignTorget to grow even more.
Right now, there’s a lot happening at DesignTorget.
For example, we have changed our store concept in all our
stores and teamed up with a few other strong brands to
create shared mini-galleries.
In the next few years we intend to expand by three
to four stores annually and take that big leap outside of
Sweden. E-commerce is also on the horizon.
In all, we sell
884
different items annually

›› FACES BEHIND THE ITEMS. Since
our designers are fairly anonymous to
those who buy our items, we decided to
present some of the people behind our
most appreciated items.
That’s the reason you can find postcards
in our stores with information
about our designers. Knowing who came
up with the idea, gives the purchaser
added value as well as recognition to
the designer.
Each year we introduce at
least twenty new designers.
We collaborate with
600
designers annually
