Bradley Brewer came to OVH in 2008 after a long career in museum development across the US and Europe. He still travels, but mostly for visits with friends and relatives in Arizona. After graduating high school in Cleveland, he was drafted in 1942 and eventually became a Corporal in General Patton’s Third Army in Europe. He later was promoted to Sergeant and became the company’s Supply Sergeant. His advanced education was at Rutgers in New Jersey, which led to an assignment with the US Bureau of Entomology. After the war, he became Executive Administrator of the Cleveland Health Museum, the beginning of a long career. Other top assignments included the St. Augustine Historical Restoration Commission, the General Director of the Detroit Science Center, and later the Bridgeport Connecticut . He also STEIN HOSPICE HELPS KEEP VETERAN MEMORIES ALIVE Stein Hospice’s Legacy Life Review DVD program is so meaningful to Veteran patients and their families that Stein is now offering the program free of charge to all Veterans. “Families get to see a collage of photographs depicting the life and times of the Veteran. They see their loved one as a baby in mom’s arms, then in the military, starting a family and the golden years. It’s almost impossible to hold back tears,” said Ron Brooks, a registered nurse at Stein Hospice who coordinates the DVD program for Veterans. Parker, DOM+ Resident worked in Cleveland helping create exhibits, which were duplicated for other museums. He married his wife of 46 years in Scotland and they became parent of two daughters (now deceased) and a son. Eventually, he and his second wife moved to Tucson, Arizona where he had his own business, Artistic Woods of Tucson, making fine top-of-the-line furniture. They eventually purchased a motorhome, each had earlier traveled extensively, and visited 44 states, as well as parts of Mexico and Canada. One of his most interesting projects was assisting in creation of an anatomically correct female mannequin, which was Here’s how the keepsake program works: A trained staff member meets with the Veteran at the Ohio Veterans Home or wherever the Veteran resides and records the Veteran reminiscing about his military experience and other events during his lifetime. Spouses and family members may also add their memories to the fabric of the DVD. The Veteran is also asked to provide photographs for the video. Despite careful attention to shipment of the unusual item, it was lost for nine days while he waited for its arrival in London. One of the early draftees in World War II, he recalls many wartime incidents clearly as he awaits his 92nd birthday next year. He is happy with his life here, and is welcomed back after his relatively frequent trips to Tucson and surrounding area. One of his most aggravating handicaps is the problem with vision. He overcomes this with electronic devices which make his room appear to be a modern laboratory. Veteran and other family members and friends,” Ron added. The Veteran also picks the type of background music to be used in the recording, from country to Big Band, jazz, military or some other genre. Stein compiles all the information into a 10 to 30 minute DVD, and then provides several copies of the finished product to Veterans and family members.
