Thank you to everyone who attended, 

called or sent fl owers, cards & gifts for our 

75TH ANNIVERSARY. 

Those 75 years serving agriculture have been a 

wonderful experience - with few bumps! 

Looking back, I realized that we didn’t give 

my mother Florence the credit she deserved. 

Mom graduated from teacher’s college and then 

McDonald Institute in Guelph as a dietitian in 

1928. She taught in a one room school in Grey 

Twp. for $700 a year. When the business was on 

the farm she fed most travelers and a lot of men 

and customers. She was also the brunt of many 

tricks. 

One time she hosted a ladies meeting. Dad 

encouraged Gus Johnston, our hired man to stick 

his bare leg down the old covered up stove pipe 

hole. The hole was behind the seated ladies, but 

in the direct view of Mrs. Fox the prayer leader. 

As the hairy leg came down the hole Mrs. Fox 

said “Oh my God Mrs. McGavin, Oh my God” 

and started pointing. At this point Gus pulled his 

leg up and when everybody got turned to look 

the leg was gone. The next morning Mom was 

telling how odd Mrs. Fox had acted and was 

less than pleased when we told her what really 

happened. 

My wife Marie played a big part, especially 

raising our 4 children and listening to me telling 

my problems. We are proud of our families and 

hope the boys don’t sue us for “getting them into 

the farm equipment business.” 

A BIG thank you to our loyal and long time 

staff. You made it happen! 

To all the companies big or small and 

especially to our contact persons (territory 

manager, travelers, etc.) we thank you.
