CHIP ENGELLAND<br />

ASSISTANT COACH<br />

In his third season as a Spurs assistant coach … a sought after speaker, clinician and<br />

advisor on shooting technique for numerous <strong>NBA</strong> players including Steve Kerr, Grant<br />

Hill and Larry Hughes … served as a shooting consultant with the Pistons during the<br />

1999–2000 season … was director of player development for the Nuggets for two<br />

seasons before joining the Spurs … served as a ball boy for John Wooden’s 1975<br />

NCAA Championship UCLA team … in 1979 led Los Angeles in scoring while at<br />

Pacific Palisades High School … lettered four seasons at Duke University … team<br />

captain for Mike Krzyzewski’s 1982–83 Blue Devil squad … spent nine years playing<br />

professionally in the Philippines, Canada and the CBA … in 1995 founded In-Net Corporation to establish his<br />

“Chip Shots” basketball camps to help players of all ages improve their shooting… he and wife, Jessica, have<br />

a son, Press.<br />

CHAD FORCIER<br />

ASSISTANT COACH<br />

Joined the Spurs in the summer of 2007 … a 1995 graduate of Seattle Pacific<br />

University … started his coaching career while in college, joining the Seattle<br />

SuperSonics as an intern in 1992 … spent five seasons with the Sonics, working<br />

for head coach George Karl … from 1994–97 served as varsity assistant coach<br />

and JV head coach at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington …<br />

in 1997 was named an assistant coach at Oregon State University … spent three<br />

seasons at OSU before moving to the University of Portland where he served as<br />

an assistant during the 2000–01 season … in the summer of 2001 was named an<br />

assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons, working for Head Coach Rick Carlisle … after two seasons with the<br />

Pistons joined the Indiana Pacers in the summer of 2003 … spent four seasons as an assistant coach with<br />

the Pacers … his brother, Todd, is the strength and conditioning coach for the University of Kentucky men’s<br />

basketball team and his sister, Jade Hayes, is the girl’s basketball coach at Bellevue Christian High School in<br />

Bellevue, Washington.<br />

MIKE WELLS<br />

ASSISTANT COACH/ADVANCE SCOUT<br />

Joined the Spurs in the summer of 2005 … spent 10 seasons in Houston in a variety<br />

of positions (spending nine years with Rudy Tomjanovich and one with Jeff Van<br />

Gundy) … first joined the Rockets in 1995 as the team’s assistant video coordinator<br />

… was promoted to video coordinator in 1996 … prior to the 1998–99 season<br />

was named video coordinator/assistant coach … in the summer of 1999 became<br />

a full-time assistant … prior to joining the Spurs, spent the 2004–05 season as<br />

an assistant coach with the Lakers (reuniting with Tomjanovich) … served as an<br />

advance scout for Team USA from 1998–2003 … played two seasons of basketball<br />

at Mount Vernon Nazarene … following his graduation in 1993 served as an assistant coach for the Cougars for<br />

two seasons while he obtained his master’s in sports science from the United States Sports Academy … he and<br />

wife, Jacqueline, were married in August of 2006 … in September of 2007 they had their first son, Trenton.<br />

JAMES BORREGO<br />

HEAD VIDEO COORDINATOR<br />

In his sixth season with the Spurs … joined the team in the summer of 2003 as an<br />

assistant video coordinator … was named the Spurs head video coordinator in the<br />

summer of 2004 … has served as an assistant coach for the Spurs summer league<br />

teams each of the last five years … born and raised in Albuquerque … as a high<br />

school basketball player led Albuquerque Academy to a pair of state championships<br />

… played three seasons at University of San Diego … as a senior, during the<br />

2000–01 season, earned a spot on the West Coast Conference All-Academic Team<br />

… earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in leadership studies at San<br />

Diego … served as an assistant coach at San Diego, for Brad Holland, for two seasons (2001–03) … during the<br />

2002–03 campaign USD won the WCC Championship and appeared in the 2003 NCAA Tournament … he and<br />

his wife, Megan, have a daughter, Grace and a son, Zachary.<br />
