Fifteen girls were trained in peer education as follows; 5 from Langas, 5 from Huruma and 5 from<br />

Munyaka. The topics covered included: Peer education Introduction, Sexual exploitation, trafficking in<br />

Persons, Reproductive Health including HIV/AIDS, Family planning and Drug and substance abuse report<br />

writing. The training took six days and was facilitated by Family Care Medical Centre of Eldoret. The<br />

training was very successful and resulted in a new partnership between SOlWOGIDI (Solasa Sports) and<br />

Family Care medical Centre. They will provide IEC materials to the peer educators and also be a referral<br />

point for for STI/VCT screening, counseling and Family Planning services.<br />

The Peer educators were issued Certificate during graduation and peer educator’s bags and IEC<br />

materials by Family care.<br />

BAKING TRAINING:<br />

One group was trained in baking skills and the areas covered include: bread making, Swiss rolls, all cakes<br />

and decoration, queen cakes, muffins, Biscuits, Samosas and scrisps. The groups started selling ready<br />

breads starting the 2 nd day of training and this has attracted more people and as the days goes by more<br />

and more people ask for more bread, snacks and cakes. The area councilor was also very impressed by<br />

the project the 1 st of its kind in the area and assisted the group to repair the drainage system and<br />

putting a temporary bridge to the bakery for the women.<br />

Plans are underway to launch the bakery officially in the beginning of the next quarter where<br />

stakeholders, local leaders and relevant government officials will be invited. Three more groups will get<br />

the training starting next quarter; the trainings could not be done at once because the same institution<br />

engaged will be doing the same training for 10 days for each group in their respective areas.<br />
