MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE NEXT MEETING
July 21 at El Gallo 2910 S. Congress. There will be a special presentation on wind energy.
Dinner 6PM meeting 7:30.
President’s Message
Members, as this very hot summer season rolls around, be sure to keep yourself hydrated with water or some
refreshing non alcoholic drink. Save the beer for the evening refreshment. You can never keep enough fluids
in your system when you are out side in this heat.
Speaking of the heat, the Fathers Day Car show was a big success for the Antique Club, Road Relics. The heat
was truly a big factor on this day. The attendance was 357 cars registered and that was the largest turn out
ever. Our Club was there also and we did have a good turn out. I hope that I can remember all that were
there but I will try. Ben and Coco Ancira, Don Peterson, Barbara & Joel Parish, Sandy and Gene Grottke,
Bobby Marshall, Jim Jack, Christian & Carl Soeffker, Al & Gwyen Burgess, Pat and Margaret Corbell, Gary &
Barbara Baker, George Thorne, Dave Halley, Billy House, Zeke Salinas, Chester Toothman, Dennis & Wanda,
Gary and Angela Evans, Tony and Chery Scott, and Kay, Logan and I. I hope that I didn't miss anyone. Sorry
if I did. Be sure to mark on the attendance sheet at the next meeting that you were there.
As you can see we had quite a few members present. I brought the 55 couch on a trailer to sell tickets. We
sold a few and a few of the members sat behind the table and helped sell them. Thanks to Christian, Joel &
Barbara and Kay for helping. Logan did most of the selling as I though she would draw more attention then me.
We had 2 canopies up and I brought along a generator borrowed from Rick Shirmer to supply power to it. I
also had a floor fan that Joel hogged most of the time.
So the heat is on, the car shows are in full swing. Hope to see you at the next meeting and please come there
is much to talk about.
See you then, and be careful this summer.
Members, this month’s meeting will be at the El Gallo Restaurant on So. Congress. We will be having
the super presentation I talked about in the beginning of the year. This presentation is on WIND
GENERATORS and you will be very impressed on this program. I have asked Joe Peter to come and talk
to you all on this. Please make every effort to attend. You will not be disappointed.
Minutes for the June 2011 Meeting
Minutes of the CTCCC meeting on June 16, 2011.
The meeting was held at the Soeffker's store "All Things Kids" on the square in Georgetown. Twenty-six
members were present. The majority of this group met prior to the meeting for dinner at the Monument Cafe.
Although we've all heard the slogan, "Georgetown, just a conversation away" club President, Dan Bowen,
pointed out that it took us approximately 37 conversations to make our way from southwest Austin to the
cafe in Georgetown! Some members noted as much as 70 miles driven to get there. But it was worth the trip!
The members enjoyed dinner, more conversations and the opportunity to browse the marvelous toys, books
and games offered at our members' store. There were no new members present, but Dan announced the
recent membership of Billy & Le Anne Young, a local musician and owner of two '57 Chevys; Keith & Gail
Newman, owners of too many to mention; Harry & Lori Langley, owners of a '55 Chevy 2-dr sedan; Phil &
Elizabeth Meek, owners of a '56 restored original Chevy Pickup; and soon to be (and once past) member David
Robertson, new owner of a '56 4-dr hardtop Chevy.
Under the wellness report, the first reported was congratulations to Christian Soeffker for his continuing
recovery following his motorcycle accident. Karen showed pictures taken shortly after the accident & without
a doubt, he's looking MUCH better! Joel Parish has continued to have had some medical issues and we wish
him the best.
The minutes form the May meeting were accepted and the Treasurer's report was given and accepted.
Announcements were made about our members currently traveling, Jim & Lynda Rankin celebrating their 50th
Anniversary with a trip to Greece, Jeff & Tammy Campbell traveling in Colorado & Utah, and Corky & Janie
back to their home in Oregon. June Anniversaries & Birthdays were announced.
Checks were awarded to our two 2011 Scholarship winners. The club received a thank you note from Brandon
Grotke, one the two winners. Pam Porter offered to help Dennis with the task of solicitation and selection of
Scholarship winners for the class of 2012.
A report was given on Lone Star 29 held in Dallas, May 26 - 30. CTCCC had 37 members present. It was a
great turnout of members from our club (largest club attending other than the Dallas club) and disappointing
that no recognition was given for such. It was a great show with lots of activities and our club members pulled
in many of the awards. Congratulations to all and thank you to all those attending.
Much of the remainder of the meeting was dedicated to our upcoming Lone Star XXX. The flyers and
registration forms have been completed and were passed out at the Lone Star 29. The '55 Chevy couch has
been completed and traveled with us to the Dallas show. Raffle tickets were sold there successfully with the
help of our members and are now available for all & any members to sell on their own. They are being
distributed in packs of 25, being sold for $10 each or 5 for $40. The couch is now on a small trailer and
available to travel to car shows, etc. for display and the sale of the tickets. The Soeffkers have requested
the couch be on display at their store on the 2nd Saturday of the month for "Georgetown Market Days." Let
us know if you have any ideas for other display opportunities. Remember, all proceeds from the sale of the
tickets will go to the Laity Foundation Free Camp. Dan is in the process of getting posters printed (thanks to
the generosity of Capital Spectrum/CSI Printing) to advertise the couch and benefit. Our member & sponsor,
Jerry Conway, with Sonic has donated the t-shirts for the LSXXX event and we will have the Sonic logo only
2
printed on the back of the shirts. In our chairman's absence, Dan announced that we will be in search of more
sponsors to help defray the cost of the event. The sponsorship levels will be $100, $250 & $500. The top two
levels will be entitled to selecting an award winner from the cars at the event. More details of sponsor
benefits to be worked out upon Jim's return. Congratulations to Joel for bringing in our first $500 Sponsor
from an old high school chum, Norman Phillips, with Matrix Controls Corp. We will need plenty more of these
generous individuals and/or companies.
The call is still out for someone to maintain our Club website. Pat Schirmer has a member of her family that
may be capable and available. Until we know we have someone committed to this task, we need to continue the
search. Please, if you, or someone you know can help us, let us know.
We would like to put a club cookbook together. Please send your favorite recipes to Marilyn Peterson at
dpeterson67@austin.rr.com.
If you have something for sale and would like to advertise it in the newsletter, please send your information
to Pat Corbell at lcorbell@austin.rr.com.
Dan requested members to submit their bio's to Pat. Many of us don't know what each other do or did
during their careers or in their retirement. This is a great way to get to know each other better and a great
resource for shared interests, support & networking. The idea is to feature a member in each newsletter.
Please step up, write up and send to Pat at lcorbell@austin.rr.com.
Members were encouraged to come out to the annual Father's Day Car Show at 51st & Lamar on Father's
Day. The '55 couch will be on display with tickets sales and LSXXX flyers available. Other upcoming activities
were announced by Dennis.
The 50/50 drawing for the scholarship fund was won by Tony Scott. A special prize was won by Don
Peterson. (Thank you to Christian & Karen for the donation of the special prize since Dan grabbed the wrong
briefcase! Oops!) And thanks again to the Soeffkers for the use of their store for the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Kay Bowen, Treasurer (in Cristy's absence)
