PHONE CHANGES<br />
Beginning April 30, you should dial “7” instead <strong>of</strong> “9” to make an outside call from a campus landline.<br />
This change is designed to reduce misdialed or hang-up 911 calls, saving both time and<br />
money. The Department <strong>of</strong> Public Safety, in conjunction with ITS Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Technologies, has<br />
worked with AT&T to implement the change for <strong>Carolina</strong>. To give people time to adjust to dialing<br />
“7” instead <strong>of</strong> “9”, there will be an overlap period in which both numbers will work. Other services<br />
th<strong>at</strong> could be affected include alarm systems, fax machines, pagers, speed dialing, telephone<br />
forwarding, autom<strong>at</strong>ed dial-out programming on lab equipment and much more. ITS<br />
Communic<strong>at</strong>ion Technologies is working directly with people who have autom<strong>at</strong>ed equipment<br />
th<strong>at</strong> relies on a dial-out prefix so they can be notified to reprogram their equipment. Inform<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

STUDENT AWARDS<br />
JACLYN HENNESSEY FORD, (Kelly Giovanello, Advisor) and MELISSA JENKINS (Eric Youngstrom,<br />
Advisor) are the <strong>2011</strong> recipients <strong>of</strong> the Earl and Barbara Baughman Dissert<strong>at</strong>ion Research Award.<br />
This award honors Earl and Barbara Baughman for their many contributions to our Department over<br />
the years, and provides partial summer support to these students as they continue their work on<br />
their dissert<strong>at</strong>ion. Jaclyn’s research focuses on autobiographical memory retrieval in healthy older<br />
adults and older adults diagnosed with mild cognitive impairments (early Alzheimer’s). Jaclyn is<br />
specifically interested in identifying circumstances under which older adults do and do not exhibit<br />
impairments in their autobiographical memory retrieval rel<strong>at</strong>ive to young adults. Melissa’s research<br />
includes developing and testing the effects <strong>of</strong> an intervention for improving clinical judgment.<br />
Specially, her study will investig<strong>at</strong>e the impact <strong>of</strong> a new intervention on reducing cognitive-based<br />
errors th<strong>at</strong> contribute to the misdiagnosis and over diagnosis <strong>of</strong> pedi<strong>at</strong>ric bipolar disorder.<br />

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY AWARDS<br />
The Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> Program Awards Ceremony was held on Monday, April 25 th in<br />
Davie Hall. The Department congr<strong>at</strong>ul<strong>at</strong>es each student and faculty member on their<br />
achievements.<br />
JOHN GUERRY (pictured left with Dr. Mitch Prinstein)<br />
received the <strong>2011</strong> Martin S. Wallach Award for Outstanding<br />
Doctoral Candid<strong>at</strong>e in Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong>. This award was<br />
voted on by faculty.<br />
DON BAUCOM (pictured right with Caroline Adelman) and<br />
LANEY MARGOLIS (pictured below with Diana Rancourt)<br />
received the M. David Galinsky Clinical Supervision Award.<br />
This award honors mentors who challenge us to think richly,<br />
deeply, and flexibly about the art <strong>of</strong> clinical work and<br />
those we aspire to serve. This award was voted on by the<br />
outgoing class.<br />
CARLYE KINCAID (pictured left with Joe Franklin, Melissa<br />
Jenkins, and Dr. Deborah Jones) received the <strong>2011</strong> Rosa<br />
Swanson Award. This award is presented annually to the<br />
student, staff or faculty member within the Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong><br />
Program who has helped to foster a warm, supportive,<br />
nurturing and enjoyable pr<strong>of</strong>essional environment. This<br />
award was voted on by the entire Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong><br />
program.<br />
BENJAMIN BUCK was named the <strong>2011</strong> David and Maeda Galinsky Fellow. Benjamin will<br />
begin the Clinical <strong>Psychology</strong> program in the fall, advised by Dr. David Penn.
