First Grade versus Valley at Peter Easton Oval – Match Number 658.
Valley 199 & 5-197 (J.Floros 3/42, C.Simpson 3/53, T.Evans
3/42) were defeated by Wynnum Manly 6-326 decl. (N.Rabnott
109*, W.Prowse 58, L.Waters 50).
G’day lads, Waters back in the writing chair for a full
wrap up of First grade cricket for round 15. Sitting in
fourth on the ladder we came up against a young
Valleys side who were yet to have a win for the season.
I’m not too sure but we may have even reminded them
of it a few times during the game. A calm headed
individual like myself tends to steer clear of such
negative behaviour. Anyway, as per, Floros lost the toss
and we found ourselves in the field on a scorcher of a
day.
The Valleys opening batsman rode their luck early with
some risky shots just wide of fielders before Macca got
the breakthrough. Locko and Macca both bowled well
and probably deserved more. Mr Evans into the attack
now and it was obvious the Valley batsman had done
their research. They must have known Dolf is leading
the bowling averages in all of first grade so they were
looking to hit him out of the attack. Dolf could have had
the last laugh however if he had been able to keep his
front foot behind the line as twice he had wickets off
no-balls (Train like you play Tim…train like you play.)
Valleys had crept to 1 for 70 and Floros knew something
had to change. It was spin twins time. He brought
himself on from one end and Simmo from other and the
runs immediately began to dry up. Floros bagged a
quick 3 and Simmo 1 and before we knew it we had
Valleys 5 for 120 at lunch. We were all pretty tired at
lunch but T-Evens managed to find enough strength to
give one of the Valleys 3rd graders some advice as he
walked out to bat, “you wont last long” he said to the
15 year old. Simply inspirational Dolf and forever
justifying your nickname.
Back in the field now. Despite some hitting from
Feldman we managed to restrict the home side to 199
all out. Macca and Locko both finished with 2 and both
bowled well (keep bumping Locko, I like it.) Timmy got
2 illegitimate and the spin twins got 3 each. Bob was
also tuned in to take a solid catch at midwicket.
Our turn to bat now and we were in a good position to
knock off a considerable portion of the total. Prowsey
and Dagger opened up and did the hard yards early as
well as keeping the scoreboard ticking over. They took
the total to 1 for 40 before Dagger was caught behind
off the Valleys spinner. Floros in now with Simmo
pencilled in at number 4. However, when Rabnott and I
saw Simmo was in his Wynnum singlet and shorts we
thought it would be best to get ourselves padded up. It
was unnecessary though as Floros and Bird picked up
the run rate with several boundaries off the spinners
and our scored raced to 1 for 89 at the end of day 1.
Week 2 saw a suspiciously damp pitch but we didn’t do
too much complaing…we would have done the same
thing. Jordy, who replaced Flo, didn’t last too long and
it was Chris ‘Pulling Coach’ Simpson’s turn in the middle.
Prowse and Simmo put on a few before Bob was
unluckily adjudged leg before for a well made 58. This
left us 3 for 110 and 90 to win. In next was the man
they call Psyco, Nathan Rabnott. I think he may have
eaten a spectator on the way out. That’s how crazy he
is. Rabs looked class from ball 1 and it was obvious the
3 hours of throw downs he receives per training session
were paying off. Rabs was smashing balls to all parts as
Simmo played the support role. The pair added 70
before Simmo was out for 30odd.
The Pro in now and he picked up were Simmo left off
playing the support role as Nathan continued to bash
balls to the fence. He brought up his fifty and not long
after we had passed the Valleys total. Pro got out soon
after and it was my turn for a go in the middle. With a
declaration in our thoughts it was time for bomb mode.
Rabs began to murder anything and he was racing
towards his second century of the year. Zack, bomb,
maximum and six were the order and Rabs produced
them all.
First Grade versus Valley at Peter Easton Oval
– Match Number 658 – continued…
continued from previous page…
We went after most balls and fortunately they all fell
safe or cleared the ropes. Rabs took a calmer approach
on 99, taking a single to long off to bring up his
chanceless hundred. A bromance began and we shared
a pre valentine’s bum grab mid pitch. What a dream
boat. We bashed a few more before I found a fielder
just before tea. We made our declaration now at 6 for
320.
The Valleys lads smoked a few to race to 0 for 120. We
then took 5 for 70. Dolf got 3.
That’s about it. Great team song.
First Grade versus Sandgate-Redcliffe at
Albury Oval - Match Number 659.
Sandgate-Redcliffe 154 (B.Laughlin 4/41, C.Simpson
2/25) were defeated by Wynnum Manly 5-222
(N.Rabnott 107, C.Simpson 39).
Short and brief one day report because Mapri is bugging
me for it.
We batted first and lost Dagger early. Bob and Rabnott
put on a few before Bob got out. Simmo and Rabs then
took us to the 25 over mark and a reasonable score of 2
for 70.
Our turn to bowl and it was Locko and Rosario to open
up. They both bowled really well and got a few poles as
well as restricting the scoring. Simmo also bowled well
and the Gators finished there 25 overs 9 runs short of
our total. 2 points to us.
Our second bat now. Rabs began to bash them to all
parts and brought up his fifty with Simmo again playing
the support role. Simmo got out for 30 odd. Pro and
Benny Mac went in and hit a few. While this was all
happening Rabs was smashing balls to all parts and
managed to achieve the incredible feat of 2 centuries in
the one weekend. Well done mateeee! We finished our
45 overs on 220odd.
Sandgates bat now and they were never in the hunt.
They lost regular wickets and were eventually bowled
out 70 run short of the target. A comprehensive victory
for the Sea Eagles boys.
Waters.

Wynnum History.
Home ground advantage.
An analysis of our Honour Board performances this season reveals that our batsmen have made a better use of home
ground advantage than our bowlers.
Batting – 14 centuries scored – 11 of those at home grounds.
Century partnerships – 7 scored – 5 at home.
Bowling -5 wicket returns - 15 scored - 6 at home.
It is a testament to the efforts put in by the groundsmen and the volunteers who have assisted in getting wickets and
grounds to playing standard in trying times of weather interruptions this season.
Unique double.
A limited over century is relatively rare. However in scoring 107 in the onedayer against Sandgate, Nathan Rabnott
completed an unique double in scoring a century on Saturday against Valley (109*) and following up with a second on
Sunday. This is the first time such a double has occurred in 30 seasons of first grade limited over cricket.
Darren Moore scored a third grade ton 101* against South Brisbane on Saturday and an U 19 ton 103* on Sunday
against Western Suburbs both at Fehlberg Park in September 1986. Justin Poole is the only batsman to score a century
in each innings of 2 day game – against University in second grade at Boundary St in November/December 1993.
It is Rabnott’s third century for the season having previously scored his initial first grade century with 125, also against
Sandgate, at Bill Albury on 6 November 2010.
The only other batsmen to come close were Peter Stones who, in a third grade game against Eastern Suburbs in
January 1986, scored 97 and 93* in a Saturday/Sunday game and Paul Simon who scored 158 and 87 in the 1997
fourth grade final against Eastern Suburbs at Peter Burge.
Rabnott featured in two century partnerships - 112 against Valley with Luke Waters and 110 with Chris Simpson against
Sandgate.

Second Grade versus Valley at Bill Albury Oval - Match Number 643.
Wynnum Manly 177 (B.Nicholson 72) were defeated by
Valley 240 & 3-259 (C.Lloyd 3/42, F.Lester 3/52 &
Suuup! Lutteral here to give you the 2nd grade match report.
Now For this report, I am going to toss aside the usual laid
back report writing, and give out a report that truly reflects
how we went this round. Bottom line, apart from a couple of
stand outs, we were rubbish.
For too many rounds this year, we have been saying "we
should of won that game", or "we had that game, up until that
2 hour lapse of concentration" and quite frankly, it's crap. To
lose a close game once or twice, yes its acceptable, but not to
win a game in 3 months with the team we are putting on the
park in 2nd grade is just ridiculous! This is how the game
went.
We lost the toss, and were put in the field on a stinking hot
day. But seeing as we haven't played games due to rain, it was
nice to play a game in the full heat of summer. Seng and
Pearcey got us off to a good start with the new ball. While a
few chances fell short, we held our heads up, knowing that the
breakthrough was around the corner. Sengy obliged, nicking
up the opener. I got the other opener, and we had them 2 fa
70.
1st over after lunch, Sengy got another, he actually swung one
and caught a bloke out LBW without playing a shot. Pearcey
snicked up the other lefty, and we were in a good position
having them at 4 fa 100. To their credit, the 2 new batsman
dug in, and going was tough until Phat made a breakthrough
before tea, and Valleys were 5 for 200. After tea, fin bowled
like a man possessed, bowling STOCK ROCKS, to grab 2 poles.
I cam on and got another 2 poles also. Finally Fin finished it
and we had Valleys all out for 239. A rather good score for us
considering the position they were in at tea.
This is where the report may get ugly. We had 17 overs to bat.
The 2 slashed players, in Jordy and Trasky went out to open.
after hitting a 4 Trasky was out 3rd ball of the day to a "good
rock", but really it was a ball he didn't have to play at, seeing
as it was the 1st over of the day. Jordy followed after getting a
quick 10. He smoked one to cover, again, it was pretty early in
the innings and maybe another shot that didnt have to be
played.
Points Table:-
2. South Brisbane 133.38
12. Beenleigh/Logan 64.20
Wins to Date = 5.5 from 17.
This brought Seven to the crease. He missed a full bunger on
leg stick and was given LBW, an unfortunate dismissal, but
maybe one that could have been an easy off the mark shot to
get his innings away. Hazo and Nicho were at the crease, and
looked like the only batsmen that were even interested in
valuing their wicket. They were trying to rebuild the innings
after the slashed players went out guns blazing as if they had
a 'free innings'.
Hazo nicked up a few overs later.
Phat and Nicho now occupied the crease. Both looked at
rectifying the innings, until Phat got one he...didn't see and
was bowled. I went in as night watchman and got out last ball
of the day, snicking off, leaving a delivery. Wynnum at the end
of day 1, were 6/66. a terrible effort, and one the Bill Albury
had to witness, as he came to watch.
Day 2 saw us with hope in scoring the runs needed. Emphasis
was put on grinding runs out because we had all day to score
them. The message seemed to have sunk in as Sengy and
Nicho went through 8 maidens in a row until at one stage. All
the good work was undone, when Sengy was caught behind
having a go at a short ball. Pearcey went in and smoked a bad
ball off his pads, but straight to the man at mid-wicket. Enter
the best number 10 in 2nd grade (never to get a grade 50)
Matt Smith. He and Nicho Put on a good partnership. Both
were patient in hitting the bad balls that were few and far
between. Smithy got out snicking at a rock down leg side for
23. When Fin came in, Nicho decided to up the anti, smoking
balls to and over the boundary. Mal brought out the now
revered 'oar' shot, but it was given as leg byes. It all came to
an end when Nicho smashed one onto his pad to be judged
LBW. Wynnum all out for 170.
The pain did not stop there. We had 46 overs to get through
before the end of days play. so what did the opening bowlers
do? We bowled junk. I bowled the worst out of the lot. Landing
half volley after half volley, followed by a half tracker. This
kept up for nearly all my opening spell. After a disappointing
loss, we didn't want to be chasing leather for the rest of
the day. Seng at the other end bowled better but the same
result was achieved with Valleys in an aggressive mood. The
run rate slowed when Finlay and Pooley came on. Those 2
showed us how to bowl and got some wickets for their efforts.
Mal Picking up 2 and Phat, 1. Valleys finished the day on
3/258.
We have a lot of improvement to do if we want to even think
about getting close to winning a game. Bowlers need to be
patient and bowl good solid lines, and not only that, but bowl 1
side of the wicket. Batsmen need to value their wicket, last till
tea, and cash in on a nice flat deck. Unfortunately for them, 1
bad shot can undo all their good work (thats the trade you
chose...suckerrs) We definitely have the team to do it, with all
apart from me and Smithy having played 1st grade. So here is
to a much improved game against Wests. Truth Bomb!
Luttral out!

Third Grade versus Valley at Norm McMahon Oval - Match Number 669.
Valley 143 & 5-165 (D.Fryer 4/8, B.Smith 4/19,
B.Chapman 3/51) were defeated by Wynnum Manly 234
(C.Zeller 46, B.Allen 42, H.Tyler 33, L.Zeller 32, B.Watts
31).
Our most important game this season started with me
losing the toss against Valley. The equation was simple
– three games left three wins needed to make the
semis.
Valley’s most decorated grade cricket player Gavin
Brown is always the key wicket when playing Valley in
2s or 3s so the plan was hatched to use Adam
McDermott to open the bowling and hence put Browny
off his game. After the first over it had looked like the
plan had backfired as Browny smashed Adam for a few
boundaries on a lightning fast outfield at Norm
McMahon Oval but to Adam’s credit he got Browny out
soon after with a well flighted wrong ‘un which even
Browny couldn’t deal with.
The remainder of the first hour was tough with Valley’s
top order batting well but our bowlers stuck with it to
have 3 wickets.
But as soon as Uncle Dave Fryer was brought on to
bowl the entire complex of the game was changed.
Uncle was as miserly as ever and this proved to be too
much for the remainder of Valley’s batsmen with Uncle
claiming 4 fa 8 off his 8 overs.
Further to this Smithy, after copping a bit before lunch
came back to take 4 fa 19 allowing us to roll Valley for
143 which was well under par.
Some reshuffling of the batting order saw Bart and
Harry produce one of the better opening stands in third
grade this season to see us to 43 runs before Barts was
dismissed.
Harry continued his good form to produce 33 before
knicking a cut shot but B.A and Fuzz saw us to the end
of the day without any further loss to see us 2-74.
Day 2 saw a wicket with a slightly different complexion
but we were still confident we could acquire the
remaining 70 runs and press on with the bat. We did
that with few hiccups amassing 234 for a
comprehensive victory with Corbin, B.A., Fuzz and
Pebbles all scoring runs.
We had 27 overs to bowl and no Macca to knock over
Browny so he took to us for a while along with the
remainder of the Valley top order who decided they
needed some batting bonus points but we didn’t let
them go and claimed 5 wickets allowing us to accrue
some very important bonus points as well.
The now famous “3 Grades in One Dressing Room Team
Song” was echoed out around Ashgrove to cap off three
fantastic wins.
So two more wins required from the final two games
with the more difficult game against second place Wests
taking place at home this round.
Semi’s are very near but Third Grade has been this
close on numerous times before in recent history.
Perhaps this is the season ??
Fourth Grade versus Valley at Ian Droney Oval - Match Number 643.
Wynnum Manly 182 (S.Marghera 40, C.Perera 29,
J.Wells-Peris 27) were defeated by Valley 230
(L.Jamieson 3/35, B.Rowe 3/39).
After dismantling Uni the week before, the fourth grade
boys were keen to keep their momentum going in a top
of the table clash against Valleys on Ian Droney Oval.
We arrived on Day 1 to be greeted with stinking,
steaming hot conditions and what looked like an
absolute belter. It came as no surprise then that Aldo
promptly lost the toss and we had the pleasure of
fielding first.
It looked to be a masterstroke as Brodie Rowe found an
edge early and The Pom would have had another if it
wasn’t for his errant front foot. It didn’t matter all that
much in the first session as we managed to keep taking
regular wickets while keeping the scoring rate at around
2 an over.
The bowlers kept charging in and the fielding remained
tight throughout the afternoon. I think the whole team
was lifted by perhaps the best maiden over of the year,
by yours truly, just before the luncheon interval.
After the break, the Valleys boy were happy to let the
game meander on as we kept up good lines without
getting the vital breakthrough. Unfortunately, one
opener rode his luck in combination with some good
shots and brought up the first century of the year
against our bowling attack. The day finished with us
relatively upbeat to have them at 8-208 on what we felt
was a really good deck.
We returned for Day 2 to be greeted with the news of a
Valley injury mid-week and so we had just one pole to
get to finish the innings. A couple edges and lofty
blows boosted their score to a very gettable 230.
Points Table:-
Wins to Date = 7.5 from 15.
The bats were keen to get out there and chase the runs
down - 230 off 71 overs was a very achievable target.
Nova and Sunny started well, Sunny continuing his
conservative practice of charging the opening bowlers
whenever possible and Nova relishing the opportunity to
have decent bat for a change. They kept turning over
singles and gave us a solid platform before they both
fell just before lunch. Harry Day missed a straight one
just after and Chamra and I went about ticking the runs
over, taking us to about 3 for 130 at drinks.
It was about here the trouble started. I, too, missed a
straight one first ball back from drinks and muttered my
discontent to Aldo as I walked back to the pavilion.
Imagine my surprise when Aldo walked back in before I
had even taken my thigh pad off - it seemed that
missing straight ones was the order of the day. Not
long after, Chamra copped a shoulder-height beamer
which he promptly swung the bat at and was surprised
to find himself given out caught. 3 for 130 had turned
into a dicey 6 for 160-odd in no time at all.
Galza and Hutcho, looking like a throwback to the 80s
with their collars up and baggy caps on, seemed to get
themselves in before both unfortunately holed out trying
to push the run rate. Rebbetts hit a full toss to mid
wicket and we were down to the last two with too many
runs to get and about 45 minutes left in the day.
Rowey and Levi batted well, taking the occasional single
(and slog sweep off the spinners) as they kept out the
Valleys bowling. With the minimum overs completed
and the clock reading 5:46pm we thought we had saved
the match, only to find the umpires felt we had one
over to go. Sure enough, the 10th wicket fell in the
second ball of that over and the Wynnum boys were
gutted.
A tough loss for the boys but it will make us doubly
determined next week in another top of the table clash
against Wests.
Fifth Grade versus Valley at Ashgrove 3 - Match Number 378.
Valley 152 & 9/159 decl. (D.Harvey 6/40 & 2/75,
S.Bennie 4/43) were defeated by Wynnum Manly 157 &
6/78 (C.O’Sullivan 45).
Fifth Grade had a few inexperienced but talented
newcomers to face a hardened and aggressive Valley
team sitting in the top four. For the second round in a
row the boys needed to knock off a top side to keep our
finals hopes alive. Greeted with an absolute belter we
lost the toss (as usual) and faced the prospect of a
sweltering day in the field. As with our victory over Uni
last round, Dean Harvey got us off to an excellent start
with three early wickets including two catches to fill in
keeper Dave Wilden.
As drinks approached the Valley batsmen seemed to
settle before Schnitzel Von Klemm took an excellent low
catch off Drew Gray’s bowling to remove their skipper
and take us to drinks on the end of a dominant first
session. Valley fought back in the second session with
some excellent stroke making mixed with the odd waft.
A couple of breakthroughs, including a vital caught and
bowled to the departing Carlin O’Sullivan and a maiden
fifth grade wicket for Andrew Niven, and Valley were
back in a tough position at tea with the score 6-130.
On resumption Dean Harvey stamped his credentials for
an Alan Border Medal (Best & Angriest Fifth Grade
Bowler in Brisbane Grade Cricket) cleaning up the tail to
finish with a fine six wicket innings. Valley all out for
152 on what appeared to be a road.
Wynnum’s first innings got off to a flyer with Sully and
Chaaarm flaying the bowlers to all points. Sully was
batting at his peak showing no regard for reputation or
intimidation. The opening stand of 60 was broken when
Chaaarm chased a wide one. Sully and Brooky dug the
knife in a little further and were about to twist it before
both fell in quick succession. Wildo and Hanky got us to
3-114 and the close of play within sight of an impressive
victory.
2. South Brisbane (1) 105.18
12. South Brisbane (2) 52.70
Wins to Date = 7.5 from 15.
Sully’s 45, along with three catches, a wicket and some
quality chat was a great way to finish his time with the
Sea Eagles. He will be missed in the lead up to the
finals but we wish him well in Melbourne.
The first day’s belter was replaced by a variable pitch on
day two with patchy grass coverage at one end and a
dusty crust at the other. Wildo fell early and was
followed by a steady procession of victims at the dusty
end. As the target grew nearer, the wickets mounted.
Some cranky, but effective, batting from man of the
moment (month? year? decade?) Dean Harvey got us
across the line with two wickets in hand. Special
mention must go to Valley youngster Thomas Cramb
who bowled with great accuracy for a leg-spinner to
earn a deserved seven wicket haul. Our final first
innings lead was just five runs, but the decaying pitch
put us in with a chance of even more points in the
second dig.
Valley came out blazing in the second innings looking
for bonus points and a possible outright result. A
couple of dropped chances, a missed runout and some
big hitting allowed them to amass 2-99 at tea. On
resumption the tone of the innings changed with some
solid bowling and improved catching stemming the runs
through regular wickets. Sean Bennie was the pick of
the bowlers taking four very important wickets before
Valley declared 9/159 setting us a 150 run chase off 25
overs. Regular wickets prevented any real attempt to
chase down the total. Young Cramm completed his ten
wicket haul in the final over of the day as Wynnum
survived to be 6/78 at the close. A vital victory for Fifth
Grade and our quest to make the finals continues.
How sweet it is! One of the most satisfying rounds in
recent memory was topped off with the loudest,
proudest rendition of the club song I’ve ever witnessed.
The lads from Ones, Threes and Fives crammed into the
Valley away shed to celebrate three excellent victories.
Many of the young lads will remember the occasion for
years to come and hopefully drive them to greatness
leading into the finals.
Sixth Grade (2) versus Toombul at Wayne Broad Oval - Match Number 128.
Wynnum Manly (2) 198 (D.Humphries 47, A.Troy 32,
J.Bowel 30, W.Hetzell 28) were defeated by Toombul
251 & 7/63 (F.Hayes 5/43, T.Allen 2/54, J.Raiteri 4/15,
D.Humphries 3/24).
We decided not to lynch the Skipper after losing the
toss (again) and having to bowl on a road...no lynching,
but we all agreed that Crewy’s popularity poll result had
dipped below Ruddy’s prior to the knifing!
We knew we needed early wickets to avoid being in the
field most of the day – which we unluckily were unable
to do. The boys fought hard as the heat channelled
down – Bundy bowled superbly to get a 5 with Theo
Allen getting a couple as well. The catching off both the
high balls and in the slips was superb (actually, we only
took one catch in the slips, but it was absolutely
unbelievable...off the big quick Bundy...flew fast and
high...first slip has dived left handed through the
air...took it in the fingertips horizontal to the
ground...magnificent!!! NB can’t remember who took it,
but I know he was young, athletic and extremely good
looking...with a distinguished beard I believe).
We kept working hard, with the only further set-back
was when my mother was “rissoled” by the guys playing
on number 3 – I reckon she should have caught it –
which I let her know when she got back from the
hospital.
We had 12 overs to face for the end of day and
unfortunately made the mistake of playing too far
forward – meaning we ended day one 3 for 24.
Week 2 was another HOT day. Quite a few of the
Wynnum Hierarchy came down when they heard that
Sachin Tendulkar was having a hit on number 2 for
Wynnum...they left when they found out it was me
attempting not to have a heart attack whilst blocking
out one end.
Points Table:-
We had some strong partnerships and were at one
stage 6 for 130 close to tea. Quite a few of the boys
had their best looking innings of the season, with some
solid contributions from Hetzel, Hebby, Azzar & Theo
Allen in particular.
We had a bowl at them second innings and after this
time getting a few early wickets, we pushed hard to
have them 7 for bugger all, with Humpho getting the
first few and the RAT bowling beautifully getting the
next 4.
Bundy & Theo Allen both bowled well but without luck.
The catching again was a highlight.
Overall, it could just be seen that we have had another
loss...but I believe we had some real positives emerge
from this game. For a start, the team has made it’s
highest team score 2 games in a row. We showed this
game that the middle order was able to build
partnerships. A few more of our bowlers bowled much
more consistent lines with a lot more patience. The
fielding and catching had no lack of enthusiasm and the
skill levels were excellent. Not a lot went our way, but
we continued to show the Wynnum Spirit and kept at it.
I believe more and more players are contributing to the
team results, which is actually resulting in a lift in both
individual and team confidence.
We are truly looking forward to the last 2 rounds, so we
have the opportunity to build on this progress!
Humpho.

Warehouse versus Mater Hill at Kianawah Park Number 3.
Wynnum Manly 68 & 35 (R.Patil 37) were defeated by
Mater Hill 7/70 decl. & 5/33 (P.Connolly 4/9, G.Williams
3/10, B.Busby 3/8).
In this match, it was Wynnum’s turn to face cellar
dwellers Mater Hill. Mater Hill went into the match
favourites given the pillaging of our team by the higher
grades, leaving us with just 8 players for the match on
the weekend. At the toss, we were sent in to bat and
our objective was to bat out the day and regroup next
week. Obviously that didn’t go to plan.
Gareth, and a newly promoted Pommy were opening,
and 1st ball of the second over Mater Hill struck, with
Pommy trapped LBW 1st ball. Quite soon after that,
Mater Hill struck twice more removing both Pat and
Gareth to leave us struggling at 3-1 (yes 3 wickets for 1
run). That was when I came to the wicket with Rohit
and together we saw off the new ball and started to
slowly and surely rebuild the innings, with Rohit scoring
most of the runs. The curse of the drinks break struck
and both Rohit (37) and I (10) were back in the pavilion.
The tail didn’t last much longer and we were all out for
68.
Dale and Baden opened the bowling without any luck
and after 15 overs they seemed to be cruising at 0-48
before Gareth and Pat annihilated the middle order with
Pat taking 4 for 9 off 4 overs and Gareth taking 3 for 10
off 5 overs. Suffice to say, there tail struggled to 70 to
grab 1st innings points for Mater Hill, then declared and
sent us into bat with about 45 minutes of play left on
day 1.
It didn’t start well again for us, with Gareth removed in
the 1st over, and with Pommy soon to follow, a newly
promoted Dale (13) came to the crease with Rohit (14)
and managed to see out most of the remaining overs,
however both fell just before stumps and we were
reeling at 5-32. It didn’t get much better next week,
with more pillaging happening by the higher grades and
it only got worse as we promptly collapsed to 35 all out.
Yes, that is bad, even by our standards.
Points Table:-
1. Macgregor Hawks 134.88
2. Flying Hell Fish 103.91
3. Humdingers 96.61
4. Brew 78.45
5. Mater Hill 71.61
6. Wynnum Manly 67.91
Wins to Date = 4 from 13.
After that, Mater Hill went in to chase the paltry total of
35. We lacked another opening bowler to partner Baden,
so Gareth opened with Baden and his very own pies.
Baden took 3 wickets with Gareth and Rohit one a piece,
but alas it was not enough as Mater Hill grabbed full
points.
In conclusion, it was a very disappointing performance,
but a solid effort given us only having 8 players both
weeks, and we hope to improve on that performance.
Special mention to Rohit for his amazing innings in the
1st innings and his great fielding effort in the covers in
both innings to give us some sort of chance.
