Yesterday I had the pleasure of joining the Year 6/7
students on camp in Busselton. What made this
experience so enjoyable was not only all the fun and
interesting places we visited but also the impeccable
behaviour of the students. At all times the children
were engaged, courteous, friendly - overall great
ambassadors for the school. Parents and staff should
be very proud of the way the children have been
behaving and representing our school community.
One of the camp activities yesterday included
exploring the Mammoth caves. There was a visit to
the chocolate factory where the children were able to
view a range of chocolates being produced, as well as
sample some of the delicious chocolate and make
some purchases. They also visited the Olive Oil soap
factory where they were given a talk about the origins
of the soap factory and how the soap is made and
packaged. Lou & Edwina Scherini originally from
Kojonup set up the business and produced this soap
to help his 3 children who suffered from eczema).
Simmo’s Icecream was a huge success after much
deliberation about what flavour to have and how many
scoops!! The evening finished off with a hearty meal
of nachos and rehearsals for their camp assembly
item (Friday March 23rd—mark this in your diary as it
is sure to be a wonderful assembly!)
A great deal of thanks needs to be given to Mrs
On Sunday we celebrated our first family mass for the
celebration and supported those children making their
commitment to their sacramental journey. The Year
how to live.
helps to build the community of St Bernard’s. I urge
everyone to return the form with their ideas about
resources for the school.
Reconciliation
During Reconciliation we get to meet Jesus in a special way when we receive his gift of forgiveness in this sacrament.
God loves us and is always ready to forgive.
(Ezekiel 34: 15-16) God says; ‘I myself will look after my sheep and let them rest. I will search for the ones who are
lost and lead back any who have wandered away. I will bandage those that are hurt and make the weak ones strong)
Loving God,
You are our friend always. We are good people but sometimes we mess things up and hurt one another.
We are sorry for the uncaring things we do. Thank you for loving us all the time even when we hurt one
another and make one another unhappy. Help us to be more caring and thoughtful towards one
another. Amen.

Kindy/Pre-Primary
These past few weeks we have been looking at some pretty exciting things in our classroom. When we learnt about the letter
Tt and Travis Goodall’s Dad was amazing to bring in his tractor. We were very excited to learn about tractors, and a lot of
children from other classes came to look too. Recently we have began to learn about Easter. Firstly, learning about the story
of Jesus. Starting from when he was a baby, how he grew up, died, and then rose again. We are finding this very interesting.
One of the Pre Primary students, Lachlan Trezise, commented that “Jesus is in the air, and he also helps my heart beat”. We
will continue to learn about the story of Jesus, and particularly focus on how he came alive on Easter Sunday.
Year 1
The Year One class loved hosting the PP-3 Para liturgy and enjoyed the prayers, songs and activities involved. It was so nice to
see some parents come along and watch them. They also thoroughly enjoyed the Caritas presentation last week, learning about the
ways that our Project Compassion fundraising can help people in need. In Language the children continue to perfect and
extend their recounts. Now that we have revised our letter, sound knowledge and increased our basic sight word bank we can move
on to learning all about a number of blends and diagraphs (ch,sh, th etc). They have all improved their handwriting ten fold as
they continue weekly handwriting sessions, practicing correct letter formation. All children have improved their reading skills and
are employing learnt decoding skills, which is very impressive. In Math's we have been working on our number facts to ten, basic 2
D shape recognition, following patterns and directions. In Science the children have learnt about their different body parts and
senses. They will soon be going on a school yard safari which will be lots of fun. In Health they made a potato head and have been
talking about being nice to each other and working as a team. The class have settled into their new routines nicely so next week we
will give group work a shot...fingers crossed
Year 2/3
It has been a busy time over the last few weeks in Year 2/3! We had lots of fun participating in the swimming carnival and
everyone had a great day. On Friday, 2 nd March the pre-primary’s, Year 1’s and Year 2/3’s had their paraliturgy focusing on
what makes them special and unique. John-Henry Blair, Harriet Prasser Jones and Alexa Bell have been very busy preparing
for their first reconciliation. In Writing the children are learning about persuasive writing and are enjoying discovering the
features of these. In Maths we have been focusing on our mental maths skills and have enjoyed learning how to play
Numero. We have been busy researching information and features of minibeasts as we are designing and making our own
minibeasts this term. We can’t wait to share our creations with you at the end of the term!
Year 4/5
Year 4/5 continue to put their best efforts into all subject areas. During Literacy we have been learning about how to structure and
write an exposition.
Furthermore, students are to be commended for their superb approach to the new “Words Their Way” spelling program.
In Mathematics students have been investigating Measurement and Mass.
Finally this week we started our “Animals & Predators” projects which will enhance our research skills using the internet and the
new library.
My thanks to Mrs McGuire for all her work with the children in Week 6.
Keep up the great work Year 4/5!
