Equipment
Ballpoint pen (Black ink - no necklace pens), bandage scissors (found in the Lab Bag you will be
purchasing), stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, functioning wrist watch with second hand, and handheld
electronic device loaded with the required references. Be sure to place your name on equipment (i.e.,
scissors, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, notebooks, etc.) as appropriate. Please note that equipment
required will vary according to rotation site and additional items may be added.
Handheld Electronic Device with Applications
Each student must purchase a handheld electronic device (e.g., iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, Palm
OS etc.), if they do not already own one.

• Mosby’s dictionary of medicine, nursing, and health professions
• Nursing diagnosis handbook
• Pearson’s Nurses Drug Guide
• Clinical companion medical-surgical nursing
These references can be purchased on the D’Youville College Skyscape Webpage
www.skyscape.com/dyouville . When you access this webpage you will find the required applications
listed under Required Applications for Nursing 230; please note the list of supported platforms and the
workshops and demos list; additionally you will have access to 24/7 technical support. Students may also
purchase these applications from the D’Youville College Bookstore if required to do so related to financial
aid issues. The webpage and its services will still be available for you to use in this case. Please alert the
bookstore that you will be purchasing this software from them as soon as possible to allow them to order
what you will need.
Do not bring
Purses, backpacks, textbooks. None of the agencies used have adequate, fully secure storage facilities.
NOTE: If your appearance is deemed inappropriate, you will be dismissed from the clinical site and a
make-up assignment will be required as detailed in the make-up policy.

CLINICAL ATTENDANCE POLICY
1. Clinical attendance and completion of all required clinical hours and written clinical assignments
is mandatory for students to successfully fulfill course requirements.
2. Throughout the semester, student absences from clinical experiences will be tracked by their
assigned clinical faculty and will be reported to the course clinical coordinator. Any student
absent from a clinical experience due to an unavoidable circumstance must notify their
assigned clinical faculty member before the start of that day’s clinical experience in accordance
with the guidelines provided to the student by the assigned clinical faculty member. Calling the
School of Nursing, text messaging, or notifying clinical faculty via another student does
not meet the clinical faculty notification requirement for a clinical absence. Students must
discuss the reason for their absence with their assigned clinical faculty member and may be
required to provide documentation supporting the reason for the clinical absence. Failure to
appropriately notify clinical faculty of a clinical absence may result in immediate dismissal from
the clinical rotation and an unsatisfactory clinical performance evaluation.
