Electronic investigations:
Learn to fight cyber-crime!
Digital
Forensics
Digital forensics is the recovery of digital data
for use as evidence in both civil and criminal
legal proceedings, or in internal investigations
documenting violations of computer usage
policies in corporate or public agency settings.
This type of evidence is important in cases of
white collar crime and industrial espionage
or theft, as well as in cases of harassment,
embezzlement and conspiracy. Laws of
evidence must be known and followed to
collect, preserve, analyze and present digital
data in court. These laws also apply to
organizations when they are documenting
computer usage violations by employees.
This program is designed for information
technology specialists, systems analysts and
network administrators. Especially beneficial
for individuals within private corporations or
public agencies who are asked to search for
and identify hidden digital data, or to analyze
employee computer usage, stored or copied
files, email or Internet history.
A certificate from the University of
Washington Tacoma and 9 CEUs are awarded
upon successful completion of the program.
Cost for the entire program is $2,679.
electronic
Discovery
(e-Discovery)
Management
Explore how electronic data plays a central role
in today’s litigation process during discovery
and identification of evidence. Learn how
records and information management policies
prepare organizations for potential litigation.
Understand the laws governing electronic
discovery, including the consequences for
failing to fulfill discovery and presentation
obligations. Whether you work in a law firm
or an enterprise, learn how to manage the
electronic discovery process, including the
tools and techniques through which electronic
evidence is identified, collected, and presented
in the courtroom.
Cost for the entire program is $2,625.
Course information
Program length: January - August 2013
Law and Digital Forensics
Digital forensics is a profession that differs
significantly from the image portrayed on television.
The reality is that the digital forensics
expert needs much more experience than a
solid background in IT. An expert in this area
needs to understand the “big picture” of civil
litigation, the basics of criminal law and what
can and cannot be ascertained through forensics
analysis.
Tuesdays, Jan. 8 - March 12, 2013
Meets: 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. | Cost: $893 | CEUs: 3.0
Digital Forensics Tools & Processes
In most investigations a digital forensics case
begins with a crime or allegation of wrongdoing.
The high-tech examiner must be prepared
to gather evidence both in the field and in the
lab. Covers tools and processes utilized for effective
information gathering.
Tuesdays, March 26, 2012 - May 27, 2013
Meets: 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. | Cost: $893 | CEUs: 3.0
Applied Digital Forensics:
Case Studies
Applying findings from a digital forensic
analysis is only the first step for the
digital forensics investigator. Computing
investigations consist of combining recovered
digital evidence with other resources. Focuses
on the most important skills necessary for a
successful high tech investigation.
Employees may be preparing for jobs that don’t
yet exist, using technologies that have not been
even know are problems yet. Having employees
who can write effectively, think critically, and
present accurately are key to a company’s
success.
part of their job duties and those who wish to
improve their communication skills.
Systems (giS)
Credential
A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a
comprehensive spatial database used to input,
store, retrieve, manipulate, analyze and output
geographically-referenced information, to
support decision making for planning and
management of land use, natural resources and
the environment, transportation, facilities and
services, and public administration. The ability
of GIS to display the results of queries geographically
and its unique capacity for spatial
analysis and modeling, make it possible to ask
and answer questions well beyond the scope of
traditional databases. The GIS credential allows
practioners in the profession to expand their
skill-base. Classes meet in the well-equipped
GIS lab at UWT. ArcGIS software is provided
during the class for student projects. This
Lean Six Sigma:
green Belt
This course covers the concepts of Lean and
Six Sigma for both manufacturing and service
businesses. Lean Six Sigma is a business and
data-driven, disciplined approach to reducing
waste and minimizing defects in any type of
process (be it manufacturing or services).
Lean Six Sigma focuses on reduction of
waste, increased profitability, and customer
satisfaction. It is a method of integrated
management used by organizations to more
effectively and efficiently meet the needs of
their customers and other interested parties.
Students are provided an overview of Lean,
Six Sigma and the DMAIC problem solving
methodology. Included are both statistical
and non-statistical techniques used for
continuous process improvement such as
process definition, process flow diagrams,
data collection techniques, measurement
techniques, causes of process variation,
pareto diagrams, histograms, cause and effect
diagrams, control charts and process capability
analysis.
The interactive classroom emphasizes
strategic thinking, flexibility, teamwork and
communication skills. Each student will create
specific plans for their organizations using
these Lean Six Sigma concepts.
Upon successful completion of the program
