Many of the local churches are dedicated <strong>to</strong><br />
giv<strong>in</strong>g back <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Bessemer</strong> community with<br />
outreach projects as diverse as the churches<br />
that sponsor them. Morgan United Methodist<br />
Church serves as a distribution po<strong>in</strong>t for Angel<br />
Food M<strong>in</strong>istries—an organization that<br />
provides good quality food <strong>to</strong> families at very<br />
reasonable prices. Canaan Baptist Church<br />
helped with disaster response follow<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
April <strong>to</strong>rnadoes by serv<strong>in</strong>g as a collection<br />
po<strong>in</strong>t for donations for <strong>to</strong>rnado victims <strong>and</strong><br />
by connect<strong>in</strong>g affected neighbors with the<br />
help they needed (shown at right). The church<br />
members also threw a block party for residents<br />
<strong>in</strong> Pleasant Grove <strong>in</strong> late July <strong>to</strong> celebrate<br />
the progress made s<strong>in</strong>ce April’s devastation<br />
