A NEW GRADUATE MINOR in<br />

integrative leadership was approved by<br />

the Board <strong>of</strong> Regents in July. It’s the first<br />

<strong>of</strong> its kind in the nation, designed to train<br />

future leaders to work across boundaries<br />

<strong>of</strong> disciplines, organizations, nations, and<br />

geography to solve problems.<br />

The ILM will enhance graduate student<br />

preparation to lead and foster collective<br />

actions. Classes <strong>of</strong>fer training in leadership<br />

theory and civic engagement. In the last<br />

will enroll in courses for college credit through the <strong>College</strong> in the<br />

Schools program. About 500 juniors and seniors at 22 schools will<br />

take a college course in anatomy and physiology taught by their<br />

own high school teachers under the direction <strong>of</strong> Murray Jensen,<br />

associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor in the Department <strong>of</strong> Postsecondary Teaching<br />

and Learning. The program, now starting its sixth year, culminates<br />

in a spring kiosk competition at C<strong>of</strong>fman Union, where students<br />

describe their work to the public. Winning teams for 2011-12 were<br />

Minnehaha Academy (Golden Femur, top), Eagan (Silver Scapula),<br />

and Cretin-Durham Hall (Bronze Ulna, left). The program is made<br />

possible by a grant from the UCare Fund.<br />

The new minor draws on faculty in<br />

CEHD and three other colleges—Humphrey<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Public Affairs, Carlson School <strong>of</strong><br />

Management, and School <strong>of</strong> Public Health.<br />

CEHD’s Department <strong>of</strong> Organizational<br />

Leadership, Policy, and <strong>Development</strong> will<br />

serve as the minor’s academic home.<br />
