PiXL 6 was not my idea, at least not initially. I was approached by some leaders in present
PiXL schools to ask whether we would consider extending to PiXL 6, a PiXL network for Sixth
Forms and Colleges. That’s how it all began.
Since then PiXL convened a conference with twelve interested leaders to explore possibilities.
Their unanimous opinion was it should be offered. It was, said one, a ‘no brainer’!
So, here we are with this leaflet outlining some of the issues and vision for 2011-12. We intend
to start with about 30 members of PiXL 6 working under PiXL principles and with PiXL practices
and philosophy embedded in all we do. We expect significant outcomes which might just affect
the picture in your Sixth Form or College. That’s what PiXL intends.

Peter Rawling
has spent 38 years
specialising in Sixth Form
work, mostly at Windsor
Boys’ School. He has expanded
curriculum provision for all and
monitors progress to maximise
success, ensuring progression
to HE and beyond. He is a
contributor to the recent
‘Blue Skies’ book on the
future of HE.

which PiXL principles

Barbara
Rhymaun,
Headteacher at Darrick
Wood School, Orpington.
Recently classified as outstanding,
DWS has been a leading member of
PiXL since its inception. Barbara has
worked as a leader for The London
Leadership Strategy, National
College and has advised on
Sixth Form developments in
schools. She will chair the
Strategic Team.

the Beal High School,
Redbridge and is Executive
Headteacher at Hainault School.
Sue also led on 14-19 for the
Redbridge LA 2006-10. Outstanding
in its work at all levels, Beal has
been a PiXL leader since day one,
has PiXL principles well established
and applications run throughout
the school. Sue has an excellent
reputation as a leader in and
around her own authority
and beyond.

WHAT WE INTEND TO OFFER:
PiXL provides high quality leadership
PiXL is clear that its emphasis must be on KS 4 and KS 5 outcomes
and introduces and shares strategies and principles, the majority
of which have been successfully applied over many schools for
five years. It will retain a Central Meeting where key ideas are
introduced, reinforced and disseminated
PiXL believes that Associates, linking school partners with leaders
from successful PiXL schools, have a significant impact on
outcomes
PiXL is a partnership network where celebration, positive attitudes
and sharing are consistently evident and promoted. Experienced
and inexperienced schools sharing together will continue to have
profound impact
PiXL operates best where relationships are strong, supportive,
encouraging and open. The PiXL Club has a ‘family feel’ which

Five main meetings per year for two people per PiXL 6 member. These will
operate as inspirational sessions, provide networking opportunities, generate
ideas and offer guidance. They will be held half-termly, at The King’s Fund,
Cavendish Square.
An Associate to work with the Raising Standards Leader in each institution to
personalise PiXL methodology. Associates will be very experienced leaders in
using PiXL principles.
Curriculum guidance and advice using training sessions for school middle
leaders. This will enable the development of appropriate curricula at all levels,
introducing supportive strategies to teachers to raise achievement at all
grades, with particular emphasis on B/A and A/A*.
Developmental training and support for Leaders of Sixth Forms with ideas
about data analysis, guidance on use of data to impact achievement through
intervention and accountability structures.
Tangible links to Higher Education institutions in order to create aspiration and
to give practical guidance to maximise chances of successful applications.
