X. New Business<br />
A. Presentation of Report by UW Applied Populations Laboratory Regarding Enrollment Projections<br />
Sarah Kemp of the Applied Population Laboratory presented an annual enrollment projections report. A<br />
complete copy of the report can be found at the District Office and is also posted on the school district’s<br />
website.<br />
B. Discussion of Budget Reduction Development Process and Information Gathering Forums for Staff<br />
and Public<br />
Jerrud Rossing, Director of Business Services, shared information on both the budget reduction processes and<br />
forums that will be held for both staff and the public. He indicated that he and other administrators will<br />
continue to gather ideas and information regarding ways to both increase revenue and decrease our budget.<br />
C. Report on WASB School Law Seminar<br />
Susan Fox and Susan Manning shared information on the WASB School Law Seminar which they attended.<br />
They discussed some highlights of the conference with the Board.<br />
D. Discussion and Possible Approval of 2010-2011 Private School Parent Transportation Contracts<br />
Motion: Jessica Ace moved that the Board approve the list of 2010-2011 Private School Parent<br />
Transportation Contracts as presented. Peter Sobol seconded and the motion carried.<br />
XI. Unfinished Business<br />
A. Discussion of Maywood & Winnequah Consolidation, Nichols, and Related Issues<br />
Superintendent Gerlach discussed the information that the Board had received in their packets, including maps<br />
and estimates of remodeling costs and cost savings involved in possible consolidation of Maywood and<br />
Winneuquah <strong>Schools</strong>.<br />
The board held lengthy discussion regarding the possible consolidation of Maywood and Winnequah, the<br />
Nichols Building and other related items. Discussion included topics such as transportation, staff reductions,<br />
use of space, equity, staff input, and playground. The Board also discussed other options such as moving<br />
District office and all programs housed within the current Nichols building to Maywood. A plan to include the<br />
senior center at Maywood, along with the district office and 4K or 4K-K, was discussed briefly. Board and<br />
staff will continue to research various ideas.<br />
B. Presentation and Discussion on Athletic Field Updates<br />
Mr. Gerlach shared that he has met with Jeff Schreiner, Paul Brost and Mark Scullion on athletic field use.<br />
Mr. Schreiner gave an update to the Board on athletic facility use for both <strong>Monona</strong> and Cottage <strong>Grove</strong>,<br />
including both indoor and outdoor facilities. Mark Scullion shared information related to estimates on<br />
upgrades to our current athletic fields. Mr. Gerlach would like to see that we identify and agree on what the<br />
issues are and identify a plan on how we are going to get it accomplished. In all likelihood, this will take a<br />
major fundraising effort. He will continue to meet on this and at some point in time will bring a<br />
recommendation forward.<br />
C. Discussion and Possible Approval of Human Resources Position<br />
Superintendent Gerlach gave background to the Board regarding this position. He indicated that Jim Orlenko,<br />
our current Human Resource Director will be retiring in December. Jim has served in this capacity as a half<br />
time director, Mr. Gerlach’s recommendation is that this position be increased to a fulltime position. He is<br />
recommending that we do this by increasing the salary by approximately $10,000 over Mr. Orlenko’s current<br />
salary. He is not necessarily looking to fill this position with a director who would be at the same level as the
