LOKRING AssEMBLY AND FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE 

ONE JOINT, TWO RINGS, FOUR STEPS – THAT’S ALL THERE IS TO IT.

THE COMPONENTs OF A LOKRING CONNECTION 

A LOKRING tube connection can be made without a great 

deal of effort. All you need is a LOKRING tube connection, a 

hand assembly tool and some LOKPREP. 

The ergonomic hand assembly tool works without energy 

connection, and the patented lever mechanism means extremely 

little strength is needed for assembly. 

Compare it with conventional tube connection methods for 

yourself, and you will see that »lokringing« has the potential 

to become a classic. Where DIY experts have their »rawl 

plugs« or »flex«-cut materials, you and your customers 

could be »lokringing« in all sorts of situations.

sTEP 01 | TREAT THE TUBE ENDs 

OPERATING PRINCIPLE & ASSEMBLY

To make a tube connection, the tube ends must be metallic bright and free of 

longitudinal grooves caused by production. To remedy this, clean the tube ends 

with our sandpaper or abrasive mats. 

sTEP 02 | APPLY LOKPREP 

Next, moisten the whole tube circumference with LOKPREP by guiding the bottle 

360° around the circumference of the tube. Apply the LOKPREP a little away from 

the cut edge to avoid it getting onto the inside of the tube. 

Depending on the repair situation, there are several different possibilities of 

applying LOKPREP over an area - see page 16. 

sTEP 03 | INsERT TUBEs 

Then insert the tube ends with the LOKPREP film into the joint. Make sure that the 

ends of the tubes are inserted to the inner limit of the joint and remain fixed in this 

position during assembly. 

sTEP 04 | PREss* 

Finally, place the assembly jaws behind the two LOKRINGs and press the two 

LOKRINGs axially along the joint until these lie flush on the assembly path – and 

that’s it! 

* Here is an example of the pressing procedure with assembly version 00. Assembly 

instructions for versions 25 and 50 are provided on page 28.

Metal tubes can have longitudinal grooves on the surface from production. 

These production-related faults can be compensated quite easily by moistening 

the tube ends to be connected with LOKPREP fluid before assembly. 

Thanks to its capillary characteristic, it can even flow into microscopic cavities 

and fill these out completely.

LOKPREP evenly. 

LOKPREP is not an adhesive, rather an anaerobic sealant which hardens under 

oxygen exclusion and in contact with free metal ions. Its elastic structure is 

permanently retained in a temperature range of –50 to +150°C – thus compensating 

material-specific deformations due to fluctuations in temperature. 

Since LOKPREP does not contain solvents which have to evaporate during 

hardening, the finished connection is ready for use shortly after assembly. 

What connections are possible with LOKRINGs? It’s very simple: Any metal tube 

commonly used in refrigeration and climatic technology. The possible combinations 

are almost limitless. The following can be used a rule of thumb: If at least 

one of the tubes being connected is made of aluminum, then a LOKRING made 

of aluminum must also be used. In all other cases, a brass LOKRING is used. In 

cases of special tube materials, tube coatings, or environmental effects on the 

material, we’ll be happy to provide assistance.

The LOKator RLD5 is an electronic refrigerant leak detector of 

the latest generation. Its highly developed semiconductor sensor 

technology has been designed for the characteristics of HC, HFC 

and HCFC refrigerants. Sensor soiling is greatly reduced through 

the principle of diffusion, which means there are no filters and 

pumps that can become blocked. The LOKator RLD5 has an 

automatic zero setting and the possibility of suppressing background 

contamination manually. Complies with the regulations 

stipulated in EC 1516/2007 and DIN 378. Five LEDs and an 

acoustic signal (can be switched off) indicate the size of the leak.

couplers ensure a maximum flow whilst flushing.

vacuum of 0.013mbar (10 Micron) and pressure 

up to 52bar.
