The main difference between series
1050 winders and series 1100 winders
is the cross-cutting device. While
the series 1050 winders are equipped
with a twisting knife, the series 1100
winders have a robust guillotine cutting
device, which is also perfectly suitable
for more rigid products.
Typically, series 1050/1100 winders are
used for the following cast film applications:
- cast polypropylene film (CPP)
- cast polyethylene film (CPE)
- polyamide lamination film
- PA/PE vacuum packaging film
- polyolefin-based barrier films with
EVOH barrier
- hygiene films and laminates
SML 1050/1100 series winders are
equipped with a central drive for gap
or contact winding mode. Both 3” and
6” pneumatic winding shafts can be
used.The inlet section of the winder is
designed with oscillating blade holders
for edge trim and inline slitting. A web

the inlet section controls the upstream
web tension. This web tension is separated
from the actual winding tension
by means of a S-wrap. An ultralight
CFP dancer roller allows for sensitive
control of the winding tension.
Ten taper curves are available and can
be preselected and modified individually.
With increasing roll diameter the contact
roll unit retracts continuously via
an AC servo positioning drive.
Winding in contact mode offers adjustable
lay-on pressure. The gap-winding
mode works via a laser-controlled gap
between the bobbin and the contact
roll itself. Cores on the series 1050 winders
require preparation with adhesive
tape. Series 1100 winders equipped
with a guillotine cross-cutting device
permit startup without any preparation.
Yet, for films having a thickness
of more than 300 µm preparation is
recommended.
SML‘s series 1050/1100 winders are
available with winding direction being
either clockwise or counterclockwise.

producing jumbo rolls of CPP and CPE
for further converting. The winder uses
a twisting knife for cross cutting. The
start-up of the new roll is effected by
electrostatic electrodes.
The max. mechanical roll diameter is
1300 mm, roll weight is limited to
4500 kg, however. The winder can be
operated shaftless with 8” steel cores
and can be equipped optionally with
special chuck heads to handle 6” and
8” winding shafts. The integration of an
optional banana roller and optional part
bobbin knives allows production of up
to 3 part bobbins with winding shafts.
Jumbo rolls on shaftless steel cores
are taken out of the winder by a normal
hall crane. For shafted operation a shaft
and roll handling system is available.
A trolley with lifting table supports the
finished rolls with the winding shaft
inside and moves them backward to
the shaft clamping and pulling device.
In this backward position the shaft pulling
device takes out the shaft from the
roll. Now the rolls can be picked up for
transport and later converting.
