New hire: audrey Kaneko<br />

The Cultural Center would like to<br />

welcome Audrey Kaneko as the new<br />

Public Programs Co<strong>or</strong>dinat<strong>or</strong>. Kaneko<br />

is responsible f<strong>or</strong> planning a maj<strong>or</strong>ity of<br />

the Cultural Center’s public programs. Pri<strong>or</strong><br />

to joining the staff, she assisted with the<br />

planning and preparation of the exhibition:<br />

Celebration in Hawai‘i.<br />

Kaneko w<strong>or</strong>ked in Los Angeles f<strong>or</strong> 10<br />

years at the <strong>Japanese</strong> American <strong>National</strong><br />

exhibitions such as Fighting f<strong>or</strong> Democracy:<br />

Who is the “We” in “We, the People”;<br />

Landscaping America: Beyond the <strong>Japanese</strong><br />

Garden and Companion Sh<strong>or</strong>t, Mamo’s<br />

Weeds; Living Flowers: Ikebana and<br />

Aloha!<br />

In December, the Cultural Center said goodbye<br />

to Chief Operating Officer/Direct<strong>or</strong> of Development<br />

& Communications Allicyn Tasaka and<br />

Volunteers Co<strong>or</strong>dinat<strong>or</strong> Jennifer Seki.<br />

Tasaka will now serve as Direct<strong>or</strong> of Operations<br />

f<strong>or</strong> Govern<strong>or</strong> Neil Abercrombie’s admi nistration.<br />

Tasaka joined the Cultural Center<br />

staff in 2005 and has been a tremen dous<br />

asset over the years. The Cultural Center<br />

wishes her a fond farewell, a debt of gratitude<br />

and best wishes in her new position.<br />

Kaneko most recently<br />

co<strong>or</strong>dinated the exhibition Textured Lives:<br />

<strong>Japanese</strong> Immigrant Clothing from the<br />

Plantations of Hawai‘i and is the producer<br />

f<strong>or</strong> the documentary, Barbara Kawakami:<br />

A Textured Life, which made its Hawai‘i<br />

premiere at the 2010 Hawaii International<br />

Film Festival. She is a graduate of the<br />

University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa with a<br />

degree in Asian Studies.<br />

On December 2, staff and volunteers gathered to say farewell to Allicyn Tasaka after 5½ years of serving<br />

the Cultural Center as Chief Operating Officer/Direct<strong>or</strong> of Development & Communications..<br />

The Cultural Center would also like to<br />

say goodbye and thank you to Volunteers<br />

Co<strong>or</strong>dinat<strong>or</strong> Jennifer Seki f<strong>or</strong> her many<br />

contributions to the staff and volunteers.<br />

Seki is a teacher licensure candidate at<br />

Chaminade University and will be student<br />

teaching this semester. Seki officially joined<br />

the staff in 2009 but has been a long­time<br />

volunteer and friend of the Cultural Center.<br />

The Cultural Center wishes Tasaka and Seki<br />

well in all their future endeav<strong>or</strong>s!<br />
