TWO LOW-COST BARREL VAULTS WITH A MEMBRANE COVER<br />

Background Information:<br />

Before, there was an open parking<br />

without a roof. A special<br />

commission of the city asked for an<br />

architectonic proposal, maintaining<br />

the use of the parking.<br />

Objectives of the roof:<br />

- A special design to<br />

provide a<br />

distinctive design<br />

quality and good<br />

insertion in the<br />

city<br />

- Rain and sun<br />

protection, so the<br />

space can be used<br />

as a comfortable<br />

parking all year<br />

- Allowing entrance<br />

of natural light,<br />

at least 7%, so the<br />

area is not<br />

darkened<br />

- Eliminating direct<br />

solar radiation, to<br />

prevent<br />

overheating<br />

- Easy installation<br />

SWIMMING POOL<br />

Background information:<br />

Initially the swimming pool was<br />

only used for summer. The<br />

objective was to use it also in<br />

winter, taking advantage of the<br />

solar energy to heat a small<br />

covered part.<br />

Description:<br />

The covering is made of a PVCcoated<br />

polyester membrane,<br />

tensioned on a supporting steel<br />

structure. The tri-articulated frames<br />

in reticulated steel round pipe are<br />

for heating<br />

- Allowing entrance of natural light<br />

and solar radiation<br />

- Rain protection<br />

- Easy installation of the membrane<br />

low points in the perimeter, it was<br />

possible to direct and concentrate<br />

solution, of quick assembly.<br />

fulfilled: obtaining a very pleasant<br />

space for parking.<br />

PVC-polyester membrane,<br />

tightened on the supporting<br />

structure.<br />

The main structure consists<br />

of tri-articulated arches, made<br />

of laminated wood.<br />

The arches have a span of 12 m and<br />

are placed at a distance of 4.5 m.<br />
