One in ten homes still being purchased
through fi xed interest loans
The latest national lending fi gures show
that one in ten dwellings in Australia
are being purchased through fi xed
interest loans despite the fact that there is
now growing economic pressure for the Th e
Reserve Bank (RBA) to drop interest rates
even further.
A survey of lending by fi nancial institutions
for June 2012 shows that 10.2% of dwellings
purchased (nearly 5,000) in Australia had
fi xed loans at 2 years and more.

Australia’s largest residential investment
group, Th e Investors Club, believes that the
RBA will be forced to drop interest rates by
another 0.50% before the end of the year due
to more challenging domestic and overseas
economic conditions.
Kevin Young, President of Th e Investors
Club, said that further interest rate cuts
were on the way due to the underperforming
Australian economy and continued economic
uncertainty in Europe.
“A large proportion of property buyers
are still being sucked into fi xing their rates
by the big banks that have launched major
advertising campaigns during recent months.
In contrast, Th e Investors Club is encouraging
members not to fi x and keep their mortgages
on a variable rate as we believe the RBA will be
forced to drop interest rates.
“With the average home loan in Australia
now $295,500, fi xing your interest rate at the
current time could prove fi nancially costly
