One in ten homes still being purchased<br />

through fi xed interest loans<br />

The latest national lending fi gures show<br />

that one in ten dwellings in <strong>Australia</strong><br />

are being purchased through fi xed<br />

interest loans despite the fact that there is<br />

now growing economic pressure for the Th e<br />

Reserve Bank (RBA) to drop interest rates<br />

even further.<br />

A survey of lending by fi nancial institutions<br />

for June 2012 shows that 10.2% of dwellings<br />

purchased (nearly 5,000) in <strong>Australia</strong> had<br />

fi xed loans at 2 years and more.<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>’s largest residential investment<br />

group, Th e Investors Club, believes that the<br />

RBA will be forced to drop interest rates by<br />

another 0.50% before the end of the year due<br />

to more challenging domestic and overseas<br />

economic conditions.<br />

Club, said that further interest rate cuts<br />

were on the way due to the underperforming<br />

<strong>Australia</strong>n economy and continued economic<br />

uncertainty in Europe.<br />

“A large proportion of property buyers<br />

are still being sucked into fi xing their rates<br />

by the big banks that have launched major<br />

advertising campaigns during recent months.<br />

In contrast, Th e Investors Club is encouraging<br />

members not to fi x and keep their mortgages<br />

on a variable rate as we believe the RBA will be<br />

forced to drop interest rates.<br />

now $295,500, fi xing your interest rate at the<br />

current time could prove fi nancially costly<br />
