Role and remit of group
The Steering Group’s role is to provide a national overview and strategic direction to the
project team, combining the viewpoints, knowledge and expertise of multiple
stakeholders. It will act in an advisory capacity to the Project Sponsor and her team,
informing the work of the pilot programme and ensuring a joined-up, system-wide
approach.

Frequency of meetings
Meetings will be held approximately quarterly, usually in London. The group will exist for
the lifetime of the project only, as defined in the Project Initiation Document, including any
follow-up period.
Timescale
The project is scheduled to run for 12 months from April 2007. This includes pilot
programme and a post-pilot evaluation. However, as some of the actions are likely to
take more than 12 months to implement and for the benefits to accrue, further evaluation
may be needed 12 months after the end of the pilot programme.
Accountability
The group is accountable, ultimately, to the Minster of State for Quality.
Conflicts of interest
Members are asked to declare any known actual or potential conflicts of interest at the
outset. In addition, should any agenda items or discussions that occur at any point during
the project give rise to a conflict of interest (actual or potential), members are required to
declare this. They will not then be party to the discussion or any resultant advice or
decisions.
