The Cowra lick feeder is a 17-bag capacity
sheep feeder made from galvanised steel.
The feeder, which operates on skids,
eliminates grain wastage and has a kick
rail to prevent lambs pawing at the unit
and potentially spreading disease.
The channel width is easily adjusted to
control grain intake and prevent lambs
from gorging themselves. The feeder
can also be used to feed nuts, meal and
hammermill mix.

Whether to feed stud stock or to manage a disappointing season, sheep
feeders and mixers are an important part of livestock inventory. To
help in producers in their buying decisions, Kondinin Group livestock
researcher Toni Nugent delivers a snapshot of product types, their
features and prices (GST inc).
ELMS SHEEP FEEDERS
Elms sheep feeders come in a standard or
heavy-duty option. Both feeders have an
easy slide adjustment that allows grain
intake to be controlled moving from lick to
gorge feeding. Feeders have a 3000-litre
capacity and a tray designed to minimise
waste.
Sheep feeders are fully galvanised
including galvanised bolts and have a slide
lid for easy access to fi ll the feeder.
The heavy-duty sheep feeder has a
rectangular hollow base for extra strength
with a ‘C’ section for pallet forks.
The Elms sheep dry lick feeder provides
protection from the rain and is made of
heavy duty galvanised steel. It has a 40L
capacity and a steel post anchor system.

PROWAY SHEEP FEEDERS
Proway lick feeders are fully galvanised and
operate with solid RHS sub-frames and loops
for hay forks, allowing easy movement.
The Proway lick feeder has a 3000-litre
capacity and has adjustable grain fl ow
settings. The grain fl ow setting is simple to
adjust, using easily accessible wing nuts and
a slide mechanism.
The grain tray and shielding design reduce
the amount of moisture able to reach the
grain. The feeders are designed to totally
self empty.
A fl at-pack option is available to minimise
transport costs.
PATON STOCK FEEDING
EQUIPMENT
Paton stock feeders are available in a
variety of sizes from small and medium
sized feeders, through to wheeled lick
feeders and trail feeders. Capacities range
from 1.2 tonnes for the small lick feeder,
to 1.8t for the medium lick feeder.
All feeders are fully galvanised with skids,
enabling producers to drag and move the
feeder with an ATV or ute. Feeders have
double-sided feed trays and stainless steel
adjustable slide controls. The adjustable
slide controls can be set low for lick
feeding or adjusted higher for feeding
nuts. Feeders have full-length opening
lids.
Wheeled sheep feeders also have a
full-length opening lid and a heavy-duty
galvanised chassis with 360 millimetres
(14 inch) wheels behind the feeder,
allowing full access to the feed trays.

KEENAN FEED MIXERS
The new range of Keenan mech-fi ber
feeders have a specially-designed mixing
chamber profi le with carbon steel knives
and castellated paddles that condition
and process feed and forage materials,
providing the right fi bre base for the
ration.
All Keenan mech-fi ber feeders have
separate mixing and feed-out chambers,
with a high-performance auger for clean,
effi cient feed-out. A variable feed control
door allows simple regulation of feed-out
and the facility to add ingredients to the
mix part way through a load.
Torque requirements are signifi cantly
reduced due to the controlled chopping
speed, resulting in savings on overall fuel
consumption.
Keenan mech-fi ber feeders come in a
range of sizes with capacities ranging
from 4.5–10t. All models have the option
of elevating feed into feedbins.
KUHN TRAILED MIXER
FEEDER WAGON
The Kuhn trailed mixer feeder wagon
allows long-fi bre forage, such as hay or
haylage, to be incorporated into rations.
The mixing augers bring the product
towards the centre of the machine,
with the ‘mushroom’ mixing system
complemented by a fi bre-chopping facility
that comprises a number of sections and
curved blades.
The front and rear body walls slope
inwards at 30 degrees to guide feedstuffs
and help circulation.
Feeders have simultaneous left- and righthand
side feeding allowing rations to be
distributed on both sides of the machine
in a single pass. Machines are equipped
as standard with a PVC discharge conveyor
belt with hydraulic height adjustment and
on the opposite side a discharge chute.
An electronic weighing system is standard
on Kuhn mixers, allowing the operator to
monitor exactly how much feed is loaded
into the machine and ingested by animals.
Mixing capacities range from 1000–1800L.

NDE FEED MIXERS
NDE vertical feed mixers are available in
single-auger and dual-vertical models.
Single-auger vertical mixers range in size
from 12.3–20.2 tonnes, with a two-way
front fl at conveyor. A 0.91 metre or 1.37m
side conveyor is also available for righthand
or left-hand sides. The vertical mixers
have a double ladder and platform, lateral
pivot axles and 60cm curved carbide insert
knives.
The NDE dual-auger vertical mixer has a
step fl oor design. The front fl oor is
250 millimetres lower than the rear and
there is a 300mm overlap of the auger
pattern. This design allows a ‘fl ow pattern’
that is constantly moving the feed to the
front of the mixer.
Additional to the features of the singleauger
vertical mixer, the dual-auger mixer
has semi-independent suspension and
optional side doors.

TAARUP HORIZONTAL AUGER
DIET FEEDERS
The Taarup two-auger mixer, chops and
mixes small and large square bales, as
well as round bales of hay and silage
into a chopped ration. The three-point
mounting of the weighbars guarantees
accuracy and is available in three formats
— simple, simple with remote control and
fully programmable.
A number of options are available for
the distribution of the feed to either one
or two sides, including a fi xed position
discharge chute, hydraulic-driven discharge
roller and conveyor systems up to two
metres in length.
Wide conveyors run on ultra-glide strips
that allow higher conveyor speed. The
two contra-rotating augers are fi tted with
replaceable circular cutting blades, with a
multiple of usable cutting edges.
All chains and sprockets are located in an
oil bath, providing continuous lubrication
when in use. Auger drive shafts rotate
in special maintenance-free ultra-glide
bearings and the lower mixing chamber
and auger troughs are lined with ultra
glide.
TRIOLIET MIXER FEEDER
Trioliet mixer feeders have a stable auger
construction supported on the chassis,
resulting in all forces on the mixing auger
being directly absorbed by the chassis
and a reduction in the load on the mixing
chamber and the drive.
The new Solomix 2 series has a larger
and more-protected ladder platform that
improves safety. The three-part support also
speeds up hitching and unhitching.
The hydraulic opening doors are moulded to
the mixing chamber shape (conically round)
so there are no dead corners in the mixing
chamber and the doors seal tightly at the
top. The symmetric sweeper dispensing
arms make feed dispensing quicker and
more even.
The Solomix 2 has the new twin-stream
mixing auger that improves feed mixing
with its higher feed circulation speed in the
mixing chamber. It also provides a faster
loading rate in the mixer feeder and gives
an improved and faster cutting performance
of the auger blades as the feed drops
directly to the bottom of the auger.
The faster handling of round and big square
bales considerably reduces fuel, labour and
time.
TAARUP HORIZONTAL AUGER DIET FEEDER
The lower mixing chamber and auger
troughs are constructed from special
copper impregnated alloy steel that is
highly resistant to corrosion.
Mixer controls are via an electronic control
panel that is mounted in the tractor cab.
The auger reversing tool is supplied
standard with all models.
