LEARNING OBJECTIVES<br />

The meeting will focus mainly on practical aspects of heart failure management. Pathophysiological issues,<br />

diagnostic <strong>to</strong>ols, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, strategies aimed at improving<br />

quality of life and cost-economics issues feature prominently on <strong>the</strong> <strong>programme</strong>.<br />

The participants will be provided information on <strong>the</strong> molecular mechanisms associated with left ventricular<br />

dysfunction, current national and international treatment guidelines and <strong>the</strong> latest advances in<br />

management, including new pharmacological agents and devices.<br />

A full session will be devoted <strong>to</strong> clinical case discussion <strong>to</strong> illustrate different aspects of management,<br />

including treatment guidelines, quality standards, <strong>the</strong> use of both pharmacological agents and devices and<br />

management of co-morbidities in patients with heart failure. Issues related <strong>to</strong> GP Quality and Outcomes<br />

Framework (QOF) and Commissioners Outcome Framework (COF) for GP budget holders will be also<br />

addressed.<br />

The meeting has been structured <strong>to</strong> allow interaction among <strong>the</strong> attendees and <strong>the</strong> Faculty, with ample<br />

time for questions and answers after each of <strong>the</strong> sessions.<br />
