LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The meeting will focus mainly on practical aspects of heart failure management. Pathophysiological issues,
diagnostic tools, pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, strategies aimed at improving
quality of life and cost-economics issues feature prominently on the programme.
The participants will be provided information on the molecular mechanisms associated with left ventricular
dysfunction, current national and international treatment guidelines and the latest advances in
management, including new pharmacological agents and devices.
A full session will be devoted to clinical case discussion to illustrate different aspects of management,
including treatment guidelines, quality standards, the use of both pharmacological agents and devices and
management of co-morbidities in patients with heart failure. Issues related to GP Quality and Outcomes
Framework (QOF) and Commissioners Outcome Framework (COF) for GP budget holders will be also
addressed.
The meeting has been structured to allow interaction among the attendees and the Faculty, with ample
time for questions and answers after each of the sessions.
