The Lahore American Society Speakers Bureau’s goal is to access the wealth and variety of experience and expertise in our community through speakers willing to come and share with our young people. Ms Tahira Jafar, MS French Teacher, put in a great deal of work to register LAS as an examination site for the DELF Junior et Scolaire (level A1) French Proficiency test. The Level A1 Certificate examination was administered to all grade 8 French students by external examiners sent by the Alliance Francais and French Embassy, a Volume 34 : 18th May, 2012
written test on Wednesday, May 2nd and an oral interview on Friday, May 4th. All grade 8 students earned a “Pass” on the DELF and will be awarded their Level 1 Certificates in coming weeks! Congratuations to Asma Rekhif, Hammad Sarwar and Aadam Samiullah for scoring better than 90% on this exam! Congratualtions also to for scoring better than 80%. This shows solid achievement and the examiners expressed their appreciation again and again for the courteous behavior of LAS students. They noted that they do not find such well-behaved students in other schools in town. Congratulations to Ms Jafar for her work and for the achievement of her students. Grade 8 Semester Exams – May 2012 Student and Parent Information Excerpt from the MS Student Parent Handbook, p 15 • Given that one of the purposes of the middle school experience is to prepare students for the rigors of high school, grade 8 students will take semester exams in each of the five core subjects at the end of semester two (math, science, social studies, language arts, and either French or Urdu). • The exams will be cumulative, covering knowledge and skills taught throughout the semester. • The weighting for the exams shall be the same as one unit test and will count as part of the fourth quarter grades. • Students who are absent on the day of the page 4 exam are subject to a 10 percent grade reduction. General • Exams will be held from Thursday, May 24th, Friday, May 25th and Monday, May 28th. Makeup exams will be made up in the afternoon on Monday, May 28th. Examinations must be taken at the prescribed times. • Exams will be held in the MS Language Arts and Social Studies classrooms. • Examinations are scheduled so that students take no more than two exams per day. • The exam periods fall during the regular first and second period timings of 7.40 to 9.10 am and 9.25 to 10.55 am. • Students will be assigned to an exam room and be seated randomly. • Students are expected to arrive by 7.30 am at the latest. The exams will start on time and students who are late will not be allowed sit that exam. • Mobile phones will be collected before the exams, as usual. • Students are to bring their own water bottles, pens and any other equipment required for the exams. Guidelines • Respect the examination times and be early. You are expected to report for attendance outside the exam rooms at 7.30 and 9.20 am. • No talking, whispering or any action that might be considered by the proctors as inappropriate. There is zero tolerance for such behavior. Any talking will result in a zero for the exam. • Oversleeping, traffic and such do NOT Volume 34 : 18th May, 2012
