COACH
DEVELOPMENT
2012
www.scottishfa.co.uk/west

INTRODUCTION
This brochure covers the most important area of development
we have at the Scottish FA: Coach Education. The huge
contribution volunteers and coaches in our game make
continues to grow and with this in mind, we are challenged
to ensure our very healthy, vibrant coach education system
is continually scrutinised.
During 2011, our new Level 1 content in the Children’s
Pathway was launched and we were delighted by the extremely
positive feedback we received. We face fresh challenges in
2012 in the other areas of our busy programmes and we will
continue to give the best service possible to all who enrol on
our courses throughout this year.
We believe that to assist in any footballer’s development,
regardless of age or ability, we must have informed coaches
delivering appropriate practices for their benefit.
We are confident that the thousands of adults who participate
in our courses all have similar aims; whether that be with
their boys/girls youth squads or the enjoyment and challenges
our amateur coaches have with their squads.
At the Scottish FA, we share the passion you have for the
best game in the world. Please enjoy your experience with
us in 2012 and we hope you will be a regular candidate on
our courses.
TESTIMONIALS
“East End United were initially founded in the early 80's
originally to give the kids in the East End an opportunity to play
football and develop a bit of pride in their area of the town,
ultimately to get them off the street corners and a little focus in
their life. Over the years we have had a varying degree of success
but more recently as we have added a bit of structure and
encouraged more volunteers we have seen the club attract players
from throughout Inverclyde. The introduction of Quality Mark has
helped us focus on player and coach development to such an
extent that we are in the process of putting another three coaches
through their level one and two coaching courses at children's
level. This has allowed us to start younger kids and introduced
them to 4-a-side/7-a-side football. From the support we have
receive from the local football development staff I can only see
the club going from strength to strength”.
Martin Jess, East End United, Inverclyde
“The Quality Mark has given the club targets to reach with regards
coach education, planning and volunteer recruitment all of which
benefit the most important people at the club..... the players!
Through the support of the Regional Staff we have seen that our
coaching has improved and as a result our players are improving
all the time. I am really looking forward to improving the club
over the next 12 months with the aspiration that we move to
Community Club status in 2012”.
Billy Hassan, Gleniffer Thistle BC, Renfrewshire
