What’s happening on the grounds?
Geocaching is an adventure game utilizing
Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers
to fi nd ‘caches’ of small toys, trinkets,
etc., hidden within containers of all sizes
and shapes (including Tupperware-type
containers, ammo boxes, and Altoids
boxes).
A geocacher goes to a geocaching web
page (www.geocaching.com) and
searches the list of caches in the local
area. Each listed cache has a set of
longitude and latitude coordinates and/
or clues.
The geocachers use their GPS receivers
(and any clues) to fi nd the caches, after
which they sign online logs.
The Jenkins Estate has many visitors
each week looking for “treasure.” There
are 4 known geocaches on the Jenkins
Estate grounds. If you are new to this
activity, our park is a great place to learn.
If you have a GPS and you want an easy
hike, plug these numbers in and see
Park Watch
Park Watch is a community stewardship and
outreach program.
Help us keep the park safe and enjoyable for
everyone. Report violations such as graffi ti,
vandalism and unauthorized camping. As a
Jenkins Estate Park Watch volunteer you
become a critical link between the Tualatin
Hills Park & Recreation District and park
patrons. Through your association with
this program you will gain satisfaction from
Jenkins Geocaching
And what they are saying about the Jenkins
Estate…
“After fi nding this one I’ve got all 9 of the
caches in Jenkins Estate and Camp Rivendale.
This is a great park; my wife and I were
married in the Tea House in the early ‘80s.
And today my college-age son and I enjoyed
yet another hike around the area for this
cache. Thanks!”
“Heh, this was a popular place today! I saw in
the logbook someone had been there before
me today, and then when I was walking
back to the car after grabbing another nearby
cache, I saw another group of cachers making
the fi nd! Great area! TFTH!”
“TFTC. My daughter found this one for us.
She has a good eye for the well hidden. An
excellent (dry) winter day for caching!”
“Nice park thanks for the adventure on this
cold morning.”
“We had a blast here today. Great job by all
CO’s, this was our 2nd in the park today.”
Caches are placed with permission from
Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation District
Natural Resources Department. They inventory
all of the geocaches within our Park District.
There is no bushwacking necessary as the
caches are just off main trails.
The park is open from dawn to dusk so please
respect the park hours. Also, there are often
weddings/events held here so please do not
disturb those here for an event.
If you would like to know more about our
geocaches or others in the Park District, call
the THPRD Natural Resources Department at
503/629-6350.
knowing you are helping make a great park
even better and making your local area a
healthier, safer place for everyone in our
community.
Hours: Varies, fl exible to meet volunteer
and park needs.
