Presidents Report
Fred Santich
Welcome to all members and guests to our first Topspin of the 2012/13 season. I trust
you have all enjoyed some great tennis during the last part of 2011/12 and are looking
forward to another exciting tennis year.
Firstly I would like to thank all members of the Club and the management committee for
the wonderful support you have given me as your President this last year. I thank you
also for electing me for my third term at the AGM on 4 August 2012. I encourage more
of you to consider where you can contribute to the running of your club to ensure the
members enjoy our prime facilities.
I congratulate the other Committee members who were elected at the AGM and I look
forward to working with them all over the next year. Special thanks go to the new
committee members in Ryan Anderson (Captain) and Salv Silvera (Membership).
I am pleased to announce that subsequent to the AGM, John Cresp agreed to continue
as Vice Captain of the Club and Antonette Kennedy agreed to carry out the duties of
Vice Captain responsible for Wednesday tennis. I welcome John and Antonette to the
team and I personally thank them for their commitment.
I would like to direct you to my report below that I delivered at the AGM. This has more
information on the last year and is included in this Topspin.
Enjoy your tennis and I look forward to seeing you all at the Club.
Fred Santich - President
Salv Silvera and Carol Callaghan, the incoming
and outgoing Membership Coordinators

Captains Report
Ryan Anderson
Thankyou for the nomination, seconder and approval by the members for my
appointment as Club Captain, not too many losers in a one horse race!!!!!!
On behalf of the members I would like to thank Carolyn Mahoney for her captaincy over
the last two years and to John Cresp for his great efforts as Vice Captain.
John has agreed to continue as the clubs Vice Captain which means the continuity of
good organisation for club tournaments and social play on Saturdays.
Antonette Kennedy has agreed to be Wednesday night Vice Captain. She has over the
years through cold, wet and warm evenings been a regular player on Wednesdays and
along with Noel organised sets on both Wednesdays and Sundays. With the weather
getting warmer get along and enjoy a hit and excercise on these days.
For my part I hope you all enjoy the wonderful facility which we have, and above all
your tennis, whether it be social or competition. If you cannot make it onto the courts
on Saturdays come and enjoy a beverage at the bar...
I shall look forward to seeing you at the club
Club Managers
Report
Brad Millman
We have an action packed few months ahead of us at FPTC. We have brand new
competitions, tournaments, and social events starting up at the club. The Over 35’s
Tournament on September 8 & 9 will I’m sure be a great event. Please be aware that
the tennis courts will be closed for play on these two days and will be unavailable for
club members, for public hire or for coaching lessons during the day time or night time.
Junior and senior pennants nominations close very soon so don’t forget to email
through your interest. If you email to info@millmantennis.com.au then I can direct the
nomination or query to the correct person.
New programs on offer:
Andre Vaz Pinto’s Ladies Morning Leagues is a new weekly singles and doubles
tournament that will be running from now until September 21. They are on Wednesday’s
from 10:00am-12:00 noon and Friday’s from 10:30am-12:30pm. They are a great way
to prepare for summer pennants, or just some general matchplay against other ladies of
a similar standard. There is no need to book...just show up!!
Bruce Eaton’s Friday Hit Squad is well underway. Run from 5:30-7:00pm, it is perfect
preparation for the junior pennant season ahead, and a great way to hang out with our
best juniors at the club! Advanced players only. Included will be advanced singles and
doubles drills. Train hard or stay home...no wimps allowed!! Adult and Junior players are
welcome. Cost is Members $15, Non Members $17. Please contact Bruce Eaton for info:
0401 230 882
For more details on these programs and all other programs on offer, please visit the
Millman Tennis website at www.millmantennis.com.au
Enjoy your tennis and I hope to see you down at the club.
Coaching Tip from Brad
Two Shot Plan!! If you don’t already then try planning out the first 2 shots of each
point before you play it. No matter if you’re serving or returning, choose where you
want the ball to end up, in advance. I’m sure you will see very interesting results.

Floreat Park Tennis Club
2012 Over 35 Doubles Round Robin Tournament
Sat 8 th and Sun 9 th September 2012
How you can help make the event a great success
We are fast approaching the date for hosting this important event in the Club’s calendar and entries
continue to flow in from the wider tennis community in Perth. A number of you have generously
made yourselves available to help in various roles that are essential in staging the tournament. I
believe you all recognise that this a showcase event which helps the Floreat Park Tennis Club project
itself as a club of some standing in WA and make it attractive to be a part of.
I have a concern, however, that we are placing a disproportionate load on those members who have
so far come forward to actively assist in managing the tournament. We urgently need additional
helpers from our pool of members to put their hands up and offer a small contribution in any of the
following ways
• Be part of a group assisting with catering arrangements. Jenni Lockwood is co‐ordinating this
important role and needs more support – please email her at jennilockwood@iinet.net.au if
you are willing to assist by being part of a roster for a period on any day of the tournament.
Alternatively, add your name to the register of helpers on the notice board in the clubhouse.
We particularly need your help to cover any of the following two slots urgently : SAT 12.00 ‐
2.00pm and SUN 10:00am – 12.00pm.
• Donations of cakes / slices would be a great help and Jenni would be delighted to hear from
you.
• More volunteers are also needed to assist in various ways in the Match Control Office –
please show your interest in this by contacting me directly arthurferreira@optusnet.com.au
or telephone 0421 027466 as soon as possible.
• Show your true club spirit by playing in the tournament itself, on your home courts!
Remember the event caters for all levels of competition and will offer you a unique
experience – please consider playing, especially in Sunday’s Mixed Doubles round robin
event.
I’m confident that, if you have not already done so, you will consider coming forward with your offer
of assistance and make a contribution to this important club event. To those of you working behind
the Bar during the tournament week‐end, we extend our on‐going thanks for your tireless efforts.
Winter Pennants ‘Wrap Up’
Pennants Update
Floreat Park was once again well represented in the Tenniswest Winter Pennant
Competition. We had five senior teams and four junior teams competing. Five
teams made it to the semifinals with only the Wednesday Midweek Division 2 ladies
going on to play a grand final and win the pennant with a win against UWA on clay.
Thanks to the club members who came to support us and wave the Floreat flag, our
coach Bruce Eaton, Michelle Kelly, Emma Tobias and John Lemon and especially our
injured compatriot Caroline who generously offered to be match referee on the day
(which we all know is no where near as nice as playing!).
