RESERVATIONS 

Tickets can be reserved in person or over 

the phone in advance for any performance 

at Eden Court. We will hold reserved tickets 

for three working days. Please note that any 

reservations not paid for in full within three 

working days will be released for sale. 

REDUCED RATES 

Reduced rates are offered for most 

performances. Only one reduction applies 

per ticket. Reductions generally apply to 

under 18s, full-time students, over 60s, 

people claiming unemployment benefit, 

people with disabilities, people on income 

support and parties of 10 or more. We may 

ask to see proof of reduced rate status. 

People with disabilities may bring an escort 

at a reduced rate price if assistance is 

needed. Eden Court is a member of 

Highland Council’s Plus One scheme. For

A 5% Booking Fee applies to all online and 

phone sales. Classes and other education 

activities do not attract a fee. There will 

continue to be no charge for sales made in 

person at Eden Court, or at our Sales Desk 

in the Eastgate Centre.

Gift Vouchers make an ideal present and are

This autumn, Scottish Ballet presents a 

programme of dance influenced by 

geometry, neo-classical chic and 

contemporary classical music. 

From revered Royal Ballet choreographer 

Frederick Ashton comes Scènes de 

Ballet. This sophisticated work combines 

intricate pointe, couture-inspired tutus 

and Stravinsky’s gorgeous score with a 

hint of 1940s Broadway glamour. 

At the centre of the programme is a piece 

by San Francisco Ballet choreographer 

Val Caniparoli. Set to two chamber 

scores by Uzbekistani composer Elena 

Kats Chernin, this new work showcases 


Caniparoli’s distinctive dramatic yet 

sensual choreographic style. 

The hugely successful Fearful 

Symmetries was created by Ashley Page 

for the Royal Ballet in 1994 and received 

both a Time Out and an Olivier Award. 

Set to John Adams’ dynamic score, this 

vibrant piece takes inspiration from the

screen-printing and digital imaging techniques. The project was supported by 

Highland Council and involved contributions from Highland Council Archives and

BEAUTIFUL GYPSIES, obsession, bullfighters and 

some of the liveliest rhythms in opera… it can only be 

Carmen. This new production is set in 1960s Spain, a 

country firmly entrenched in General Franco’s rightwing 

regime. Women are oppressed, the gypsies 

ghettoised, the country is riddled with poverty, and 

black-market smuggling is rife. 

The stakes are high for Carmen. An outspoken gypsy 

with a beautiful face and a fiery temper, she sets her 

sights on the soldier Don José. His desire leads him 

to deny his friends and position and he is soon living a 

life outside the law. As his relationship with Carmen 

disintegrates and she leaves him for another, he sets 

out to prove his love, but Carmen has seen the future 

in her tarot cards and it isn’t a happy one. 

Bizet’s boldly seductive opera has been one of the 

world’s favourites for over a century. From the sultry 

‘Habanera’ to the naively passionate ‘Flower Song’ 

and the rousing ‘Toreador’s Song’, Bizet’s everpopular 

music brings out the earthy vitality of his

Eden Court is the only theatre in Scotland to offer Scottish 

Qualifications Authority (SQA) courses in Drama and 

Dance. These courses offer pupils from across the 

Highlands the opportunity to study at Eden Court for an 

SQA Higher Dance, Drama or Intermediate 2 exam. We’ve 

had pupils from as far away as Wick and Kinlochleven! 

Eden Court also offers London Academy of Music and 

Dramatic Art (LAMDA) Examination classes in the 

Highlands. Run weekly at the theatre as an extracurricular 

activity, as well as in and out of school through our 

Outreach workers these classes have helped young people 

across the Highland region to develop confidence, social 

skills and fitness.

obsession with planting trees uses miniature puppetry, birds

In this opening concert of the 2010-11 season, the Scottish Ensemble 

welcomes world famous cellist Pieter Wispelwey, playing Vivaldi’s B 

minor Cello Concerto and a new work by the veteran Finnish composer,

In December, the Scottish Ensemble continue their tradition of 

‘Christmas with a twist’ with a series of intimate candlelit concerts. 

Dvorak’s mighty Serenade for strings forms the centrepiece of this tour, 

framed by his delicate vignette Notturno and Janacek’s Kreutzer Sonata, 

arranged for the full forces of the Ensemble by Artistic Director, 

Jonathan Morton. Although written during the early part of the 20th 

century, this music continues to surprise.

comes the virtuosic tour-de-force for virtuoso 

percussion and piano, The Axe Manual by Sir

an ensemble work by Thomas Ades, Court Studies. 

Michael Popper joins Hebrides Ensemble for the 

final work, Maxwell Davies’ famous musicperformance 

art piece Vesalii Icones (1969), for

Dave and Maggie are two stalwarts of the British R&B scene. They have 

great voices, great reputations and a loyal Highland fan base. They’ll 

present an evening of acoustic blues, soul and good times, accompanied 

by some banter and chat with the audience. 

Maggie Bell is Scotland's Queen of Soul. She was founder member of 

Stone the Crows and had a successful solo career on both sides of the 

Atlantic. Back on the music scene after a 20 year layoff, her last visit here 

was a complete sell-out. 

Dave Kelly is London's slide guitar king, having learned his trade in the 

backing bands of Son House, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy 

and Junior Wells, to name but five blues legends, and is a founder member 

of The Blues Band, still wowing audiences after nearly 30 years.

34 years ago travelling salesman Willy Loman climbed into 

his car to chase the American dream: running on hope and 

'riding on a smile and a shoeshine' into the land of 

opportunity. 

This is the journey of his life, told in one day. Willy, now 63, 

returns home for the last time to his family, with his 

memories, his daydreams and his terrible fear that 

somewhere along the road he might have taken a wrong turn. 

Death of a Salesman is arguably Arthur Miller’s greatest 

creation. The ‘first great American tragedy’ helped Miller gain 

the reputation as someone who understood the essence of 

the American nation. Death of a Salesman not only addresses 

the painful conflicts within a family but considers the cost of 

blind faith in the American Dream. It won the Pulitzer Prize in 

1945 and is as hard-hitting 66 years later as it was then.
