The Planned <strong>Growth</strong> Areas (PGA) have a history <strong>of</strong> low to moderate levels <strong>of</strong> residential development or are in<br />

the path <strong>of</strong> present and projected growth trends in the County. The Rural Areas (RA) are areas where the lowest<br />

densities <strong>of</strong> residential development are considered to be most appropriate. Our current UGB is a well defined<br />

area and has been used successfully as a sprawl prevention mechanism. The UGB serves as a regulatory tool<br />

for <strong>our</strong> RPC and has provided a framework for the regular flow <strong>of</strong> re-zoning decisions that comes through their<br />

<strong>of</strong>fice. One <strong>of</strong> the benefits <strong>of</strong> the UGB is that its long term focus has a 20 year vision and is believed to contain<br />

enough land area for 20 years <strong>of</strong> development. In addition, it is a valuable storehouse <strong>of</strong> data and statistics<br />

about <strong>our</strong> county.<br />
