NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES FOR ELECTIVE MUNICIPAL OFFICERS. 1. Purpose. The purpose of this section is to designate the methods by which candidates for elective municipal offices in the city shall be nominated and elected. 2. Nominating method to be used. For the 1983 municipal election and in subsequent municipal elections of the city, all candidates for elective municipal offices shall be nominated by the procedures set forth in Chapter 45 of the Code of Iowa. Nominations for candidates for city offices may be made by nomination paper or papers filed by not less than twenty-five (25) eligible electors, residents of such city or the ward in which such candidate resides. The name of the candidate placed upon the ballot by any other method than by petition shall not be added by petition for the same office in the same election. The time and place of filing nomination petitions, the presumption of validity thereof, the right of a candidate so nominated to withdraw, and the effect of such withdrawal, and the right to object to the legal sufficiency of such petitions, or to the eligibility of the candidate, shall be governed by the law relating to nominations by political organizations which are not political parties. The method prescribed herein for nominating candidates shall remain in effect until or unless changed by ordinance. 3. Election. In such elections when nominations of candidates for elective municipal office have been made in the manner provided by Chapter 45 of the Code of Iowa, the candidates who receive the greatest number of votes for each office on the ballot are elected, to the extent 12
