The Fundamentals
TURF TISSUE – Turf Tissue is a highly
efficient solar collector absorbing light
and converting that energy into sugars
used in many plant processes. When
applied to the leaf tissue nutrients are
absorbed through cuticle or stomatal
pores which enter cells directly or
are translocated through the plant
vascular system.
Foliar feeding is best if utilized with low water rates to ensure
the nutrients “stick” to the leaf surface for optimum uptake and
absorption into the leaf tissue. This is particularly beneficial for
immobile nutrients such as Calcium, Iron, Manganese and Silicon,
all of which are found in Foltec Fortify.

Nutrient uptake by root tissue involves several complex processes
for nutrients to come in contact with roots, move from the root
surface into the xylem, and then transported to the tissues *

STRATEGIZE – Planning is the Key
The Turf Nutrition Tool (TNT) is a computer based planning tool that allows turf
managers to model a nutrition plan that can be customized to consider many of the
key variables such as turf type, geographic region, product selection, rate and timing.
With this flexibility a turf manager can design an annual nutrition plan and
incorporate the baseline nutrition strategy. The TNT is unique in that it can be
used to model both soil applied granular and foliar nutrition.
CUSTOMIZE – Different Plants
Have Different Needs
Cool season turf and warm season turf have very different growth cycles. Cool season
turf like bentgrass typically require less total fertility during a growing season than a
warm season turf such as bermudagrass which requires higher fertility levels. These
differences can be recognized through a Baseline Nutrition plan.

Cool season turf generally requires a higher percent of their nutrition to be delivered
in the spring and fall, with only moderate needs during the summer months.
A Baseline Nutrition plan provides for the majority of those needs through soil
based granular applications made throughout the growing season. Foliar
nutrition is then layered over the top to complement the granular base nutrition.

Amino Acids: The Building Blocks Of Healthy Turf
Under stressful conditions – excessive heat or
drought for example – turf may suffer from an
inability to perform normal physiologic activity,
preventing the production of their own amino
acid compounds. Foliar applications of L-Amino
acids translocate into the plant system helping
reduce the energy required to function normally

HAP is a unique water soluble binder system used in Contec DG and Biomend DG. Derived from a
special source of biomass, HAP is produced through a dual combination of both physical and chemical
processing resulting in soluble three dimensional polyphenolic carbohydrate biopolymers.

balance the carbon to nitrogen ratio.

like USGA greens and other sand based

How Does HAP Work?
The soluble form of organic carbon (which
creates the natural dark coloring of the product)
releases into the soil as the granules disperse.
Research has shown that organic carbon
anchors nitrogen in the soil and that nitrogen
binds readily with carbon based acids.
This increases the amount of dissolved organic
carbon in the soil water. HAP goes right to the
biologically active zone where root hairs and
microbes interact to provide nutrient availability
to the plant. The organic acids from HAP can
gently chelate other nutrients in the form of
primary, secondary, and micronutrient
metals and can help provide complete
nutrition from the available soil
and fertilizer. Due to the fairly
short residual life of HAP in
active soil, it should be applied
at a light, frequent rate to
maintain activity.
Research has shown that our HAP TECHNOLOGY is most effective at 10-15 lbs/Acre per month which
is easily delivered when applying Contec DG at normal rates. What’s more is that HAP is most effective in
carbon depleted soils like USGA greens. HAP is water soluble and very effectively delivered using our
patented dispersing granule technology.

Since the launch of our extended Contec DG line in 2007, we have fielded repeated requests from our customers for an
organic or natural-based version of Contec DG. The challenge comes from what one considers to be "organic." The range
of organic fertilizers and definitions of natural-based are as vast as the misconceptions regarding the subject matter. To
sort through the maze of options we further analyzed what our customers REALLY wanted with this type of product.
