The Influence of Air<br />

The preparation of mortar and concrete always<br />

requires mixing. These shear forces naturally lead to<br />

dispersion of air.<br />

The presence of air in cementitious systems<br />

is inevitable<br />

• Small air voids are desirable (easy flow, isolation,<br />

uptake of stress)<br />

• Too much air or large air voids are unwanted<br />

(loss of strength, surface defects)<br />

Use defoamers to control amount of air<br />

Air voids homogenously distributed<br />

Evolution of Evonik’s Defoamers<br />

First generation of antifoams from Evonik:<br />

• TEGO® AF P 205 for mortar and all other<br />

cementitious systems<br />

• TEGO® AF P 210 designed especially for selfleveling<br />
