The Influence of Air<br />
The preparation of mortar and concrete always<br />
requires mixing. These shear forces naturally lead to<br />
dispersion of air.<br />
The presence of air in cementitious systems<br />
is inevitable<br />
• Small air voids are desirable (easy flow, isolation,<br />
uptake of stress)<br />
• Too much air or large air voids are unwanted<br />
(loss of strength, surface defects)<br />
