Ian brings home
the bacon
Swan Petroleum boss Ian Macmillan
jumped out of the business frying
pan and into the fire of the depot
kitchen, where he cooked breakfast
for his staff – raising £41.50 for Oil
Together from delighted canteen
patrons.
“You know what pressure is when
you have to cook all this food, all at
the same time and people are
waiting. If they’re paying, they
expect a high standard of cuisine,”
he said. Ian was so good at it, he
earned a new nickname - Captain
Cook! Apart from offering bacon
baps and full breakfasts – beans,
sausages, bacon, tomatoes, eggs –
he also introduced his Shropshire
staff to the delights of Staffordshire
Oatcakes, a delicacy from his home
county.
Petroplus pedallers push towards £7,000
£7,000 – that’s the phenomenal amount
likely to have been raised for Oil Together
by Barry Stoker and Neil Redhead of
Petroplus for pedal-pushing from Edinburgh
to Newcastle on the Coast and Castles run.
He’s now gearing up for further Oil
Together Breakfasts. These are
scheduled for 10 August and 5
October. His message to other FPS
members: “JOIN IN. It’s very good
fun, and it’s a real morale booster for
everyone because it is different – and
it raises cash for Oil Together.”
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t have
a canteen, just organise some baps
and bacon and cook on a camping
gas stove – or buy the breakfasts in,
ready cooked and sell them at a
profit for Oil Together!”
Two hundred miles in 18 hours is no mean
feat. The cycle ride was not without incident.
Barry managed to get two punctures before
they'd even got out of Edinburgh. Neil fell over
sideways while asking directions because he
didn't unclip his feet from the pedals (doh!!).
And then there was a short altercation
between Barry and a sweet old lady on a bridle
path near Blyth when she failed to get out of
his way quickly enough!
Now the pair are collecting from everyone who
pledged cash towards the Oil Together target
of £250,000 for cancer charities.
“We've done our bit. Now it's time for you all
to dig deep and make good on all those
fantastic pledges for a truly worthwhile
cause,” said Neil. “Barry and I have been
bowled over by the terrific response and we
would like to thank everyone who has or
intends to contribute to the fund. It looks as
though we will have raised just short of
£7,000 so if there is anyone who would still
like to offer their support, your donation will
be gratefully received.”
Cheques made payable to ‘Oil Together’ can be
sent to Neil Redhead, Petroplus House,
St Mark's Court, Teesdale, Stockton on Tees
