�� Coastie, the talking tug boat, was also present. Coastie’s operator, District Vessel Examinations Staff Officer, Fred Furnell, 1SR, Coast Guard Auxiliary, delighted young and old with Coastie’s navigation lights, rotating beacon, siren, and air horn. The audiences were surprised and amused when Coastie rolled up and talked to them. Group attentively looks on as (Center) Judi DiMaio, DSO-MS, conducts a Sea Partners demonstration. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division 1 had a Marine Safety booth including, a Paddle Smart display with a 10 ft kayak, and a life jacket display. Visitors were shown the various new style lifejackets and had opportunities to try them on. Auxiliary members welcomed visitors, answered questions, and handed out marine safety literature. We were also able to introduce our boating safety classes, free vessel exams and offered membership applications. All were surprised and amused as Coastie would roll up and talk to them District Marine Safety Staff Officer, Judith DiMaio, 1SR, Coast Guard Auxiliary, held Sea Partners demonstrations throughout the day. USCG Sea Partners is an environmental education and outreach program developed to raise community awareness of marine pollution issues. Judith used hands on demonstrations of oil spills, oil absorbing materials, and other props to show the impact that man made and natural pollutants have on our marine environment. Viewers left with a better understanding of how they can be better stewards of our marine environment. Robert Steel, SO-MS Division 1, Bill Nelson, ADSO-MS District 1SR, and District Chief of Prevention, District 1, Jack O’Brien. Many visitors thanked us and expressed an appreciation for us being there. They were amazed at all the US Coast Guard and US Coast Guard Auxiliary did for the community. Due to the success of Earth Day, NYS Parks has invited us to partner with them on other Public events in the future. We had a great time working together and a great time of fellowship. ��
