Group Exercise is one of the most<br />

enjoyable and effective ways to get fit. If this is your<br />

first time attending a class, welcome to your first step.<br />

To help you get started we have included a “Group<br />

X Procedures” and “FAQ” section in this brochure.<br />

If you are someone who attends group exercise<br />

regularly, we recommend that you read the group<br />

exercise procedures as a refresher. Understanding our<br />

guidelines will give you a more satisfying experience<br />

and workout.<br />

<strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong> has a wide variety of classes that will help<br />

you achieve your fitness goals. They are a great way to<br />

have fun while getting fit.<br />

CLASS LEVEL<br />

• BEGINNER (B)<br />

Introductory or orientation classes are for participants who have little or no<br />

experience in the class type they are about to attend.<br />

• MULTI-LEVEL (M)<br />

Multi-Level classes are suitable for all fitness and co-ordination levels. They are<br />

classes in which you can work at your own pace according to your fitness level and<br />

goal. With easier options available for intermediate or advance movements.<br />

• INTERMEDIATE (I)<br />

Intermediate classes are suitable for participants with considerable experience<br />

(3-6 months) in the class/program type.<br />

• ADVANCE (A)<br />

Advance classes are strictly for the experienced. The pace is quicker and the<br />

choreography more complex.<br />

Freestyle Training by <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong><br />

Developed by <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong>, Freestyle Training sessions are<br />

short yet effective sessions led by our trainers. There is no<br />

charge and sessions are multi-level i.e. you train at your pace<br />

and create your own limits. To join a class, simply enquire<br />

at Reception and they will let you know if pre-registration is<br />

required. Try a session to feel the difference between traditional<br />

exercise (which trains one body part at a time) and functional<br />

training (whole-body movement exercise normal coordinated<br />

muscle effort used to complete most activities in daily life or<br />

BOSU ® : BOSU ® is more than core. It<br />

interval training exercises that build<br />

Practiced in a 37 degree heated studio, Hot Flow is an<br />

All About Group X<br />

Group X stands for Group Exercise (X as in Exercise). At <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong>, Group X consists of members coming together in classes led by experienced, certified instructors putting<br />

exercise and music together in a structured environment. Typically, members in fitness clubs are used to exercising using cardio equipment such as treadmills, bikes, cross trainers and steppers<br />

and/or free-weights or strength machines; however with the introduction of Group X, members have the option of adding variety to their exercise program by joining classes. In <strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong>,<br />

Group X is conducted through an average 60 minute class. In Singapore, the success and popularity of our Group X classes is largely due to our ability to offer a wide variety of group exercise<br />

classes suitable for participants of all ages and backgrounds, from first-timers to die-hard athletes. But most importantly, Group X allows members to meet and make new friends; and have<br />

a good time while working out!<br />

FAQ<br />

HOW DO I GET STARTED?<br />

If you are new and not sure how to get started in a Group Exercise class, you can join an<br />

“Intro” class which will teach you the basic moves for that class. The “Group X Procedures”<br />

described in this brochure will give you a good idea of the process and basic class etiquette.<br />

You can also enquire at our Front Desk or approach our friendly Group Exercise Instructors<br />

for further assistance.<br />

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO THE CLASS?<br />

As most classes are at least 45 minutes long, we recommend a water bottle to keep yourself<br />

hydrated. We also recommend you bring a hand towel for you to use after your workout.<br />

WHAT IS A THEMED CLASS?<br />

Every now and then, the Group X team designs a class around a particular topic<br />

or holiday that incorporates songs or costumes to reflect that theme, even inviting<br />

members to dress up to join in on the fun. This provides members like yourself with<br />

variety in your workout, keeps you challenged, motivated and most of all, provides<br />

you with plenty of opportunities for interactive fun!<br />

WHAT IS A LAUNCH CLASS?<br />

Every 3 months, when you see “Launch of New Tracks”, look out as this means<br />

we will be introducing the most up-to-date version of the popular Les Mills<br />

BODYPUMP ® , BODYCOMBAT ® , BODYJAM ® , BODYBALANCE ® , BODYSTEP ® & RPM <br />

classes. Each release uses the latest music and incorporates the latest research<br />

developments in exercise science. This keeps the classes challenging and ensures<br />

that members get the results they want. With fresh choreography, new moves and<br />

new music, this will keep you motivated to achieve your fitness goals. Therefore,<br />

it’s never boring in Group X!


Group X Procedures<br />

The following procedures have been implemented worldwide for your<br />

safety and are designed to make your Group Exercise experience more<br />

enjoyable.<br />

• All classes listed on the general timetable are free. There are no additional<br />

charges except for specialized classes such as pregante and post natal classes.<br />

• The capacity of classes are fixed due to safety regulations.<br />

• Some classes with limited capacity require bookings. Members may register<br />

20 mins before and until the time the class begins. For the sake of fairness to all<br />

<strong>Fitness</strong> <strong>First</strong> members, bookings cannot be made before this time. You will be<br />

given a class pass at point of registration, please hand it to the attendant when<br />

you enter the studio.<br />

• For the safety of all members, including yourself, please do not enter the studio<br />

after a class has started. Please also be on time for equipment-based classes.<br />

• Studio doors must be kept closed during classes to avoid interference between<br />

studio and club sound systems.<br />

• As a courtesy to other members, please turn off your handphone upon entering<br />

the studio.<br />

• When a class concludes, the studio will need to be cleared of all members in<br />

order to prepare for the following class and to allow members to enter for the<br />

next class. Please exit when required to do so to facilitate the process.<br />
