Impac<strong>ts</strong> of Marine Debris on Biodiversity: Curr<strong>en</strong>t Status and Pot<strong>en</strong>tial Solutions<br />
This report was commissioned by the Sci<strong>en</strong>tific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) of the Global Environm<strong>en</strong>t<br />
Facility, in collaboration with the Secretariat for the Conv<strong>en</strong>tion on Biological Diversity. The work was undertak<strong>en</strong><br />
under the direction of Dr. H<strong>en</strong>drik Bouwman, North-West University - South Africa and STAP Panel Member for<br />
Chemicals and POPs. The lead authors for this report were Richard C. Thompson and Sarah C. Gall, Plymouth<br />
University, UK, and Duncan Bury, Duncan Bury Consulting. Day-to-day technical oversight and leadership<br />
were provided by Lev Neretin, Thomas Hammond, and Christine Wellington-Moore of the Sci<strong>en</strong>tific and<br />
Technical Advisory Panel (GEF), who provided cont<strong>en</strong>t and direction, and organized panel discussions and<br />
other ev<strong>en</strong><strong>ts</strong> at international gatherings to consider the impac<strong>ts</strong> of marine debris on biodiversity and strategies<br />
to address this concern.<br />
