<strong>How</strong> <strong>do</strong> I <strong>become</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>volved</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>bushcare</strong>?<br />

You can <strong>become</strong> <strong><strong>in</strong>volved</strong> <strong>in</strong> the <strong>bushcare</strong> program by jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

an ex<strong>is</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g <strong>bushcare</strong> group, start<strong>in</strong>g your own <strong>bushcare</strong> group<br />

or by be<strong>in</strong>g part of the <strong>bushcare</strong> native plant propagation<br />

group.<br />

You can reg<strong>is</strong>ter as a <strong>bushcare</strong> volunteer by complet<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the “Interested <strong>in</strong> becom<strong>in</strong>g a <strong>bushcare</strong> volunteer” form.<br />

These forms acknowledge the partnership between you and<br />

Logan City Council. Once Council has received th<strong>is</strong> form the<br />

<strong>Bushcare</strong> Officer will put you <strong>in</strong> contact with a group near you.<br />

<strong>What</strong> <strong>is</strong> a <strong>Bushcare</strong> <strong>Team</strong><br />

Leader?<br />

As a <strong>Bushcare</strong> <strong>Team</strong> Leader, you play an important role <strong>in</strong> the<br />

conservation of our urban bushland by organ<strong>is</strong><strong>in</strong>g and lead<strong>in</strong>g<br />

a <strong>bushcare</strong> group <strong>in</strong> the implementation of bush restoration<br />

projects.<br />

Key tasks: liase with the <strong>Bushcare</strong> Officer, coord<strong>in</strong>ate the<br />

<strong>bushcare</strong> groups activities <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g project plann<strong>in</strong>g, work<strong>in</strong>g<br />

bees, record keep<strong>in</strong>g and meet<strong>in</strong>gs.<br />

<strong>What</strong> skills and attributes<br />

<strong>do</strong> you need?<br />

An outgo<strong>in</strong>g friendly personality, good organ<strong>is</strong>ational<br />

and communication skills and a genu<strong>in</strong>e <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> the<br />

environment.<br />

You also need to be able to commit approximately 4 hours<br />

per month to the program. You will be supplied with all<br />

materials and equipment, nursery facilities, pr<strong>in</strong>ted material<br />

and have access to the <strong>bushcare</strong> library.<br />

Propagator?<br />

<strong>What</strong> <strong>is</strong> a<br />

<strong>Bushcare</strong>r?<br />

Key tasks: carry<strong>in</strong>g out<br />

bush restoration projects<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g controll<strong>in</strong>g weeds<br />

and plant<strong>in</strong>g trees and<br />

monitor<strong>in</strong>g fauna and flora<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g observation and<br />

record<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

As a <strong>Bushcare</strong> Propagator, you play an important role <strong>in</strong><br />

the conservation of our urban bushland by be<strong>in</strong>g part of an<br />

<strong>in</strong>digenous plant propagation group <strong>in</strong> the propagation of<br />

locally collected plant material. <strong>Bushcare</strong> groups as part of<br />

bush restoration activities will use these propagated plants.<br />

Key tasks: propagate from seed, cutt<strong>in</strong>g or other material,<br />

and pot up to tube stock size locally collected plant material.<br />

<strong>What</strong>’s<br />

<strong><strong>in</strong>volved</strong><br />

<strong>Bushcare</strong> volunteers work <strong>in</strong><br />

Council bushland parks to restore<br />

bushland and/or help to propagate<br />

<strong>in</strong>digenous plants to be used <strong>in</strong><br />

bush restoration projects. These<br />

projects <strong>in</strong>volve:<br />

• Controll<strong>in</strong>g weeds<br />

• Plant<strong>in</strong>g native plants<br />

• Identify<strong>in</strong>g and record<strong>in</strong>g native<br />

plants and animals<br />

<strong>Bushcare</strong> volunteers also have<br />

the chance to undertake a<br />

variety of tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g courses. These<br />

courses cover topics such as<br />

native plants and animals, weeds,<br />

plant propagation and bushland<br />

restoration. Special social events<br />

are also held throughout the year.<br />

<strong>What</strong> <strong>is</strong> <strong>bushcare</strong>?<br />

<strong>Bushcare</strong> <strong>is</strong> a community-based program supported by<br />

Logan City Council. <strong>Bushcare</strong> enables you to play a role <strong>in</strong><br />

help<strong>in</strong>g to protect your local bushland.<br />

With over 2000 hectares of bushland to<br />

care for, Council could <strong>do</strong> with your help!<br />

Who can be a <strong>bushcare</strong><br />

volunteer?<br />

Any resident of Logan City can be a <strong>bushcare</strong> volunteer as<br />

long as you possess one of the follow<strong>in</strong>g traits:<br />

• Keen <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> car<strong>in</strong>g for bushland<br />

• Enjoy work<strong>in</strong>g out<strong>do</strong>ors<br />

• Keen to learn more about the environment<br />

• Keen to learn new skills<br />

• Like work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> a team<br />

• Enjoy meet<strong>in</strong>g new people and mak<strong>in</strong>g new friends<br />

• Like to meet new challenges<br />
