The College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine is<br />

founded with a unique curriculum and a<br />

“Reverence for Life” philosophy.<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U acquires a four-story building<br />

at the northwest corner <strong>of</strong> Gibbs and Third streets: today<br />

that building is the <strong>Health</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essions Library and Learning<br />

Resource Center.<br />

Banfield, The Pet Hospital, opens a teaching hospital<br />

on campus.<br />

The Campus Esplanade<br />

is complete.<br />

October 24, 2006<br />

The College <strong>of</strong> Veterinary Medicine begins construction<br />

on the new Veterinary Clinical Center.<br />

December 9, 2006<br />

In recognition <strong>of</strong> his dedication to <strong>Western</strong>U and the<br />

osteopathic pr<strong>of</strong>ession, <strong>Western</strong>U formally dedicates a<br />

park on campus for <strong>University</strong> Trustee and Founder<br />

Ethan Allen, DO.<br />

December 2006<br />

The College <strong>of</strong> Graduate Nursing moves into its new<br />

home: The Nursing Science Center.<br />

January 2007<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U appoints the<br />

founding deans for three new<br />

colleges: Elizabeth Hoppe,<br />

OD, MPH, DrPH, for the<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Optometry,<br />

Lawrence B. Harkless, DPM,<br />

for the College <strong>of</strong> Podiatric Medicine, and James Koelbl,<br />

DDS, MS, MJ, for the College <strong>of</strong> Dental Medicine.<br />

September 2007<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U Celebrates its 30th Anniversary.<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U announces that it will launch a new<br />

Interpr<strong>of</strong>essional Education Curriculum. Sheree Aston,<br />

OD, MA, Phd and Joan Sandell, DMD are appointed to<br />

develop and oversee the program.<br />

December 2007<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U begins construction on<br />

the <strong>Health</strong> Education Center (HEC).<br />

January 2008<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U opens a medical center in<br />

Rancho Cucamonga.<br />

August 2008<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U celebrates the Banfield Veterinary Clinical<br />

Center (BVCC) grand opening.<br />

November 2008<br />

<strong>Western</strong>U holds a “premiere party” for the construction <strong>of</strong><br />

the Patient Care Center (PCC).<br />

January <strong>2009</strong><br />

The American Osteopathic Association's (AOA)<br />

Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation<br />

approves <strong>Western</strong>U’s plan to open an additional campus in<br />

Lebanon, OR, to train osteopathic medical students.<br />

April <strong>2009</strong><br />

<strong>Western</strong>U receives interim approval<br />

from the <strong>Western</strong> Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Schools and Colleges (WASC) to<br />

establish a degree program in<br />

biomedical sciences, paving the way for<br />

the school’s ninth college to open.<br />
