We do not yet know what the cumulative
effects of all the sources of ocean noise
pollution are having or are likely to have
on marine animals. But we do know that
these animals are already under threat from
other human pressures including chemical
pollution, climate change, whaling, by-catch
and ship strikes. Man-made noise could well
interact with and make these pressures even
worse, with detrimental consequences for
marine animals.
