remains were yesterday interred in the family vault at Newmarket-on-Fergus.<br />

his remains were interred this morning in the family vault at Ryves Castle.<br />

1814/15 Rates Book.<br />

W. Ryves lived in the 10 th house listed out of 12 listings in Nelson Street. The last<br />

listing was for a group of three houses. Ryves lived in the biggest house which was<br />

valued at £55. That years rates of £3-5-3 was remitted by the Corporation on the 30<br />

Dec 1814. Nelson St. was close to Wickham St.<br />

his son, William Ryves Jnr. then aged 10 years. The boy’s mother was Frances Harding and<br />

the family lived in Brunswick Place, <strong>Limerick</strong>.<br />

Sir William Ryves, late of the <strong>City</strong> of Dublin, died on the 10 March 1647/8. He mentioned<br />

his wife Dame Dorothy Ryves and his son Charles. He left lease of his estate in Co Down to<br />

his son John. Lease of the rectory of Naas to son Charles and left sums of money due to him<br />

to his daughter Elizabeth Leigh. Wished to be buried in St. John’s church with his deceased<br />

wife and daughter.<br />

Francis was heir to his father William, inheriting Castle Jane in 1783. His eldest daughter<br />

was called Frances, she died in 1837. He had a house in Brunswick St. <strong>Limerick</strong> <strong>City</strong>.<br />

Anthony Swinburne bought the house and turned it into a Hotel in 1804.<br />

William, the second son moved into the Tontine Buildings and died there in 1817.<br />

Edward, the third son, got himself a house in Nelson Street. (Near the Railway Station).<br />

A Francis died at his house in Newtown Pery, in November 1803, aged 66, therefore born<br />

circa 1737. Son of William and Jane Gore.<br />

A Francis, eldest son of William Ryves of the Tontine Buildings died there on the 16 Aug<br />

1812. Son of William the second son of William and Jane Gore.<br />

Edward was the father of a daughter who married John Hickman in Aug 1797, he died<br />

shortly afterwards and she remarried the Rev Richard Fitzgerald of Toureen, Co. Clare in<br />

1807. She gave birth to a daughter in her father’s house in March 1810.<br />

Edward died on the 30 March 1820, aged 74. Therefore born circa 1746. His eldest son<br />

William, a Lt. in the 78 th Regt. died of fever on active service in 1806, in Calabria. John<br />

Hickman, Edward’s grandson died in Edward’s house of Typhus, aged 19, in 1819.<br />

Jane, Edward’s youngest daughter married George Marsh of Ballinamilton in King’s County,<br />

In October 1813. See Rosemary ffolliott’s file for what may be the death of Edward’s wife,<br />

reported in the Ennis Chronicle of Wednesday 19 July 1820.<br />
