One of the most important components of a good school is the partnership
between school and parents who work together for the best interest of children. The close
partnership between home and school is one of the strengths of Tanglin Secondary School.
The presence of Tanglin Parents’ Support Group (PSG) has helped to strengthen the
partnership between parents and the school and benefitted the students.
The Tanglin PSG is a wonderful group of fun loving, yet passionate, selfless and committed
people. They have made significant contributions to the school through:
Weekly Breakfast Programme for the financially needy students
Annual fund raising drive @ the National Day Bazaar
 Teachers’ Day celebrations
 School Outreach Programme
The members of PSG regularly meet and engage in dialogue sessions with the school leaders
and key personnel to discuss educational concerns and school programmes. The parents
also gave constructive feedback to the school, which fosters more positive relationship
between parents and school and removes the possibility of misunderstanding.
I would like to urge all parents who have not joined the PSG to come forward and join this
group of fun-loving and committed parents who have made a difference to the lives of many
Tanglin Secondary School students.
I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Tanglin PSG led by Mdm Liz Lim. Your
support has been invaluable and I am grateful for the strong partnership and close relationship
we have forged through these years.
May the Tanglin PSG grow in strength and together we will nurture our Tanglin students to be
responsible youths with sound character and good education.
Chairperson’s Message
As a member of the Parent Support Group (PSG) at Tanglin Secondary School,
I joined fellow PSG members to attend the meeting and celebrations. This has given me
opportunities to take on a more active role in the school life of my daughter. I’m glad to say
that I’ve made many new friends through my involvement in the school. It has also given me
many precious moments to share our concerns and ideas to help the school. Most importantly,
my daughter is very happy with my involvement and loves seeing me in her school.Being a
PSG member in school brings me happiness and satisfaction. Fellow parents, I would like to
invite you to come forward to join hands with us and experience the joy and fulfilment. We will
appreciate your time and effort, and provide opportunities for you to showcase your talent for
benefit our children and the school.
PSG - the link between parents and school
Parent Support Group believed that the meaningful involvement of parents in our children’s
schooling at Tanglin Secondary School can enhance their learning and educational process,
and help to create a better learning journey for our children. PSG provides the link between
parents and school. It is an active avenue for parents to share with the school on your thoughts
and issues of concern to you at the PSG meeting.
Parents’ involvement can be at all levels in our children’s school life, through general support of
school’s educational programmes, active participation in school activities, and constructive
feedback to the school. PSG initiatives focus on the school improvement process aimed to
create positive relationships that support children's total development; and a collaborative
environment for our children to grow and learn in confidence.
Our PSG team comprises of parents from all walks of life with different background, abilities,
strengths & weaknesses coming together sharing the same belief of love and concern for our
child. Volunteering may take up some of your time, but it is rewarding when you know that you
are contributing your efforts to create a better learning journey for your children at Tanglin. PSG
needs more parents to join our team. Your help and contribution in any form is crucial to the
continuance of PSG to provide support to the school.
4 Steps to a healthy Family Lifestyle
Teens today face many different obstacles than we did when we were their age. But they also are
armed with more information and resources. Teens knows about health issues from dealing with
stress , drugs and sex to eating too much junk food, the warning signs are available to them now
more than ever.
It falls to us the generation that didn’t have these resources readily available, to learn what we
can and try to implement it in our lives and the lives of our teens. Easy? No. Worth the effort?
Yes. Here are the four steps on how to implement a healthier lifestyle in your family.
1. Learn all that you can. You have a huge resource in the internet. You can find out about
anything online – and which book is the best. Use these resources to narrow down what
you can change in your life to make it healthier. Learn about the specific health issues
that surround you and your children and teens.
2. Talk to you family and set healthy lifestyle goals. The goals should be a consensus from
the entire family and do not have to be done immediately. Just having the goals down
will allow you to revisit each one at a later date and keep your family on the path you
have set. If this task seems a bit daunting, try this:
Select the 2 little healthy habits that the family can try
Offer the choice of one of the 2 for your family to vote on
Then, ask for their suggestion for the next vote.
3. Change or develop one habit a month. You’ll want to remember the phrase ‘slow and
steady’ when working on changing a bad habit into a good one or developing a new
habit. By choosing one habit at a time you will be able to focus on the best way to
incorporate that habit into your family’s daily schedule. Thirty days is the amount of time
experts agree that it takes to form a habit. Use them all.
4. Reward your family for a job well done with some fun family activity. Even if you haven’t
include the habit fully into your family’s daily schedule, starting to commit to a healthier
family is 70% of the battle and should be rewarded. Keeping in mind the reward should
stay in line with the healthy habits the family is striving to achieve.
