Over the years Evelyn Reich, Bill Scheirman, and I corresponded with a
wide circle of family and community historians throughout the United States,
Canada, Germany, and Russia about mutual interests in our heritage. Names
and dates recorded in letters, documents, and other papers assembled for
this endeavor run into the many thousands. While I have attempted to
accurately record the information presented here, mistakes sometimes arise
in a work of this nature given the legibility of handwritten notes, reliability
of memories with oral histories, translations, and mistakes in word-
processing. I have assembled to the best of my ability what was available to
me from these resources as of March 2009 and regret any oversight or
errors that might have occurred.
