Overview<br />

The Energy Found<strong>at</strong>ion Ghana <strong>is</strong> a<br />

non-profit, public-priv<strong>at</strong>e partnership<br />

institution, devoted to the promotion<br />

of energy efficiency and<br />

renewable energy, as a key str<strong>at</strong>egy<br />

to managing Ghana's growing<br />

energy needs in a sustainable manner.<br />

It was establ<strong>is</strong>hed in November<br />

1997, by the Priv<strong>at</strong>e Enterpr<strong>is</strong>e<br />

Found<strong>at</strong>ion in collabor<strong>at</strong>ion with the<br />

Government of Ghana to promote<br />

sustainable development and efficient<br />

consumption of energy in all<br />

of its forms in Ghana. The Energy<br />

Found<strong>at</strong>ion Ghana <strong>is</strong> a premier organiz<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

th<strong>at</strong> special<strong>is</strong>es in offering<br />

energy efficiency and<br />

renewable energy solutions to the<br />

Ghanaian economy in general and<br />

to residential, industrial and commercial<br />

energy consumers in particular.<br />

The Found<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>is</strong> the<br />

implementing agency for the Energy<br />

Demand Management Programme<br />

of Ghana’s Min<strong>is</strong>try of<br />

Energy, and has gained intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

acclaim for its innov<strong>at</strong>ive and<br />

effective energy efficiency interventions.<br />

It <strong>is</strong> governed by an Executive<br />

Council made up of<br />

represent<strong>at</strong>ives of energy sector<br />

stakeholders including the major<br />

producer and d<strong>is</strong>tributor as well as<br />

major energy consumers. Th<strong>is</strong><br />

gives it the flexibility and vers<strong>at</strong>ility<br />

to pursue programmes with maximum<br />

efficiency and minimum delays.<br />

Since its inception in 1997 the<br />

Energy Found<strong>at</strong>ion Ghana has<br />

continued to initi<strong>at</strong>e and implement<br />

programmes and activities in various<br />

areas of energy use. The Energy<br />

Found<strong>at</strong>ion Ghana <strong>is</strong><br />

particularly strong in the following<br />

areas:<br />

- Public Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and Awareness<br />

Building<br />

- Institutional Development and<br />

Capacity Building for Energy Efficiency<br />

- Policy Advocacy for the adoption<br />

of Energy Efficiency as a<br />

N<strong>at</strong>ional Str<strong>at</strong>egy<br />

- Design and Implement<strong>at</strong>ion of<br />

Clim<strong>at</strong>e Change Mitig<strong>at</strong>ion Projects<br />

(CDM and AIJ)<br />

- Efficiency Standards Labels for<br />

Domestic Appliances<br />

- Design and Implement<strong>at</strong>ion of<br />

Energy Efficiency Projects in Industry<br />

and Commerce<br />

- Prov<strong>is</strong>ion of Energy Management<br />

Adv<strong>is</strong>ory Service<br />

- Energy Rel<strong>at</strong>ed Studies and<br />

Research<br />

and promotion of energy<br />

of technology and management<br />

techniques th<strong>at</strong> are used in the<br />

and consumption of energy.<br />

Our V<strong>is</strong>ion<br />

The v<strong>is</strong>ion of the Energy Found<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

<strong>is</strong> to cause and ass<strong>is</strong>t in the<br />

transform<strong>at</strong>ion of Ghana's economy<br />

into the most energy efficient<br />

economy in Africa and one of the<br />

most energy efficient in the world.<br />

Objectives of the Energy<br />

Found<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

- To educ<strong>at</strong>e consumers through<br />

publicity campaigns, educ<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

programmes and seminars about<br />

the rights and responsibilities of<br />

consumers, the benefits of reducing<br />

energy waste, and ass<strong>is</strong>t residential,<br />

commercial and industrial<br />

consumers in improving energy efficiency<br />

- To advoc<strong>at</strong>e for policies th<strong>at</strong> address<br />

customer service <strong>is</strong>sues and<br />

promote n<strong>at</strong>ional policies for the<br />

sustainable development of energy<br />

and the adoption of energy saving<br />

technologies<br />

- To strengthen the priv<strong>at</strong>e sector,<br />

to improve economic productivity<br />

by developing and implementing<br />

energy efficiency, renewable energy<br />

and productive uses of electricity<br />

programmes and businesses<br />

- To undertake other energy rel<strong>at</strong>ed<br />

market research and development<br />

activities for itself and on<br />

behalf of other entities
