Overview
The Energy Foundation Ghana is a
non-profit, public-private partnership
institution, devoted to the promotion
of energy efficiency and
renewable energy, as a key strategy
to managing Ghana's growing
energy needs in a sustainable manner.
It was established in November
1997, by the Private Enterprise
Foundation in collaboration with the
Government of Ghana to promote
sustainable development and efficient
consumption of energy in all
of its forms in Ghana. The Energy
Foundation Ghana is a premier organization
that specialises in offering
energy efficiency and
renewable energy solutions to the
Ghanaian economy in general and
to residential, industrial and commercial
energy consumers in particular.
The Foundation is the
implementing agency for the Energy
Demand Management Programme
of Ghana’s Ministry of
Energy, and has gained international
acclaim for its innovative and
effective energy efficiency interventions.
It is governed by an Executive
Council made up of
representatives of energy sector
stakeholders including the major
producer and distributor as well as
major energy consumers. This
gives it the flexibility and versatility
to pursue programmes with maximum
efficiency and minimum delays.
Since its inception in 1997 the
Energy Foundation Ghana has
continued to initiate and implement
programmes and activities in various
areas of energy use. The Energy
Foundation Ghana is
particularly strong in the following
areas:
- Public Education and Awareness
Building
- Institutional Development and
Capacity Building for Energy Efficiency
- Policy Advocacy for the adoption
of Energy Efficiency as a
National Strategy
- Design and Implementation of
Climate Change Mitigation Projects
(CDM and AIJ)
- Efficiency Standards Labels for
Domestic Appliances
- Design and Implementation of
Energy Efficiency Projects in Industry
and Commerce
- Provision of Energy Management
Advisory Service

Research

The vision of the Energy Foundation
is to cause and assist in the
transformation of Ghana's economy
into the most energy efficient
economy in Africa and one of the
most energy efficient in the world.
Objectives of the Energy
Foundation
- To educate consumers through
publicity campaigns, educational
programmes and seminars about
the rights and responsibilities of
consumers, the benefits of reducing
energy waste, and assist residential,
commercial and industrial
consumers in improving energy efficiency
- To advocate for policies that address
customer service issues and
promote national policies for the
sustainable development of energy
and the adoption of energy saving
technologies
- To strengthen the private sector,
to improve economic productivity
by developing and implementing
energy efficiency, renewable energy
and productive uses of electricity
programmes and businesses
- To undertake other energy related
market research and development
activities for itself and on
behalf of other entities
