Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Mr. Michael L. Greb, President, in the Board of<br />

Education Conference Room in the Middle School, with the opening exercises and a moment of<br />

silent meditation.<br />

The <strong>Public</strong> Hearing on the Code of Conduct was held. Mrs. Sheridan, Mr. Agosta and<br />

Dr. Klein gave a presentation on the changes to existing policies and new policies<br />

which need to be implemented by July 1 to comply with DASA.<br />

the <strong>Copiague</strong> Clerical Unit #8310-00 of Local 870 CSEA<br />

Motion by Mrs. Fischer, seconded by Mrs. Natoli to approve the following resolution ratifying the<br />

Memorandum of Agreement and authorizing the President of the <strong>Copiague</strong> Board of Education and<br />

the Superintendent of <strong>Schools</strong> to execute the formal agreement:<br />

RESOLUTION<br />

BE IT RESOLVED, that the <strong>Copiague</strong> Board of Education approve the<br />

Memorandum of Agreement (July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2017) between the<br />

negotiating representatives of the Board of Education of the <strong>Copiague</strong> Union Free<br />

School District and the Civil Service Employees’ Association, Inc., Local 1000,<br />

AFSCME, AFL-CIO with respect to the <strong>Copiague</strong> Clerical Unit of Local 870 CSEA<br />

entered into on May 15, 2012 and ratified on May 16, 2012.<br />

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board President and the Superintendent of<br />

<strong>Schools</strong> are authorized to execute the formal Agreement.<br />

the reconfiguration of the Deauville Gardens Elementary School:<br />

R E S O L U T I O N<br />

WHEREAS upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of <strong>Schools</strong> the Board of Education<br />

wishes to establish two elementary schools, grade K-5, at the location of the existing Deauville<br />

Gardens Elementary School,<br />

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby resolves to rename, register and/or open<br />

Deauville Gardens East Elementary School and Deauville Gardens West Elementary School at the<br />

location presently housing the Deauville Gardens Elementary School, and be it further<br />

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of <strong>Schools</strong> and his<br />

staff to make application to the New York State Board of Regents in accordance with the applicable<br />

provisions of the regulations of the Commissioner of Education to modify an existing public<br />

school(s), change the registration status of a school, register a new school(s) and/or change the name<br />

of an existing public school; namely to modify Deauville Gardens Elementary School by splitting its<br />

existing kindergarten through fifth grade student population within the existing school building, with<br />

a portion of the kindergarten through fifth grade population to attend the renamed Deauville Gardens<br />

East Elementary School and a portion of the kindergarten through fifth grade population to attend the<br />

newly created Deauville Gardens West Elementary School, and be it further<br />

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby authorizes the Superintendent of <strong>Schools</strong> and/or<br />

his designee(s) to take the steps necessary to bring the District into compliance with the applicable<br />

regulations and requirements of the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of Education regarding<br />

the establishment, registration, naming and or phase-in/phase out of the existing Deauville Gardens<br />

Elementary School in order for it to be replaced with the renamed Deauville Gardens East and newly<br />

created Deauville Gardens West kindergarten through fifth grade elementary schools in the location<br />

of the existing Deauville Gardens Elementary School.<br />

Mr. Leunig began by thanking everyone in the community for coming out and getting the budget<br />

vote passed, by the highest percentage ever (70%), despite the terrible weather.<br />

8. Presentation:<br />

Mr. Farley and Mr. Palumbo from ADT gave a presentation reviewing their findings from the<br />

School Safety Audit. Both gentlemen commented on how the <strong>Copiague</strong> District is proactive and<br />

ahead of the curve when it comes to the safety of the children and its employees. However, they<br />

did mention a few findings that the district could tweak and improve on.<br />

CORRESPONDENCE<br />

Mr. Greb mentioned he received a congratulatory letter from Senator Fuschillo regarding his recent<br />

reelection to the Board. The Board received an invitation to the Senior Awards Ceremony which will<br />

be held on Thursday, June 7. The Board also received a thank you for their support from Jeannette<br />

Santos, Board President,Western Suffolk BOCES.<br />

COMMUNICATIONS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS<br />

The next Regular Board of Education Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 4, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in<br />

the West Cafeteria of the Middle School. It will be preceded by a reception honoring this year’s<br />

retirees and newly tenured staff at 7:00 p.m.<br />

School will be closed for Superintendent’s Conference Day on May 24, 2012 for grades 9-12.<br />

All schools and offices will be closed on Friday, May 25, 2012, as a result of days not used for<br />

emergency closing. Memorial Day will be celebrated on Monday, May 28, 2012. All schools and<br />

offices will be closed.<br />

VOICE OF THE BOARD<br />

Mr. Sales reported on the N-SSBA meeting he attended. Much of the discussion at the meeting was<br />

A resident had a concern about a story she had seen on the news involving sex offenders. The<br />

attorney was able to answer her questions. Another resident was concerned about an article she read<br />

regarding the building of 500 units up at the Nike Base in N. Amityville.
